Wonderful news. My father served as the mission president of the Independence mission in the mid 1990’s. He worked with members of the Community of Christ Church and cherished those relationships. They were very faithful in preserving those storied church properties. I have nothing but respect for them.
It's a blessing that our Community of Christ brothers and sisters took such care with these treasures! I hope they feel as welcome now as we have have felt in the past.
I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and live in Ohio. Kirtland has always been one of my favorite places to visit. My children love it there as well. I am overjoyed by this announcement, as I never thought this would happen. But I do have to say one thing that constantly bothered me was when some members of our church would visit the Kirtland Temple and would make comments about there being a lack of the spirit because it was not owned by the church. I felt the spirit every time I have been to the Kirtland so I felt sorry for those that let the ownership of the temple get in the way of a wonderful, faith building experience. I really appreciate the Community of Christ and preserving these sites. I always felt the spirit in these places and am glad that we continue share these sites. I hope the ownership of these sites does not get in the way as it has for some in the past.
Well said... the Spirit testifies of all truth and truth occurred there regardless of who currently owned the structure.... those members saying that may not have been in tune with the Spirit as much as they thought they were.... perhaps.....
Yeah, but what about the Kirtland Banking Society and how Joe Smith started his own bank illegally? And then when it was shut down he didn't return the money to his investors... he just stamped "Anti-" on his bills and kept on going. He was such a cringy fraud.
My husband and I were talking about this. He made the comment that it gives a new perspective on “the restitution of all things”. Now, everything related to Joseph is restored back to the church. A great blessing indeed. We look forward to the day when we will all “know brother Joseph again”!
Actually everything is not restored back. The church doesn’t own the burials of Smith or the temple lots. Also, what do you mean restored? Oh from your perspective it’s restored. You see the Community of Christ doesn’t see the LDS church as the one true church. It sees you as the break away illegitimate apostate church. I personally find it funny that Brighamites out in Utah think “they” have the one true church. There are many Mormons who would not agree with that starting with Emma’s family. If it was the one true church don’t you think the wife of the Prophet of God would have followed it? I mean the wife? She of all people was the closest to Joseph Smith. It’s kinda like those scrolls that were written by the hand of Abraham, if they had actually believed that then why were they not retained?
@@China-Clay It better for LDS to buy (than say some other group - that would not take care of the properties, tear them down, etc). Plus they (FLDS) can still use, see them (and know that they have the same heritage). So again, I understand but it'll be preserved the same, but they can clear up their financial obligations too!
I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I want to thank the community of Christ for their good stewardship of these sacred properties. You haven't lost them completely. they are and will be there for all Christians to see, feel and enjoy. We share in some same doctrines, saints, and of course history. Stay spiritually connected to Joseph Smith. we are..... Thankyou Community of Christ.
I, too, am so very grateful for the amazingly wonderful stewardship that the Church of Christ Community gave to these sites and items. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ. I believe The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has also shown themselves to be good stewards of their sites and items. They are all safe. They will continue to be cared for with tender care. So grateful these sits are still safe.
The Community of Christ church was struggling so this helps them and will still be available to them! It is just amazing and an important historical date!
Right? I think fears of it turning into a regular temple were being overblown. It's a very small building and ripping it apart to make endowment rooms, baptistry, celestial room, changing rooms, etc., would completely take away from its historic nature.
Both churches are blessed. Imagine if we weren't in a financial position to purchase these items? Who would they have to sale them to? Somebody who would not appreciate the temple and make it into a pioneer themed bed and breakfast or something? Now all the precious items are safe and will be preserved. The C of C doesn't have the stewardship but I believe they have been blessed because of their diligence. Now they are also blessed financially. I hope their membets will be at peace with the tenple being our stewardship now.
The CofC Church must really be hurting after they let Trans, Queers and Gays have free reign there. 😂😂😂 Soon the LDS church will suffer the same fate. 😅😅😅
I am so grateful to the Community of Christ Church for preserving and careing for these structures and documents for so many years. I hope they will feel confident that they will be equally cared for and revered in the care of the LDS Church. Bless their hearts. May this transaction bless them as well as us.
it was Robert J. Matthews who had a good relationship with the Community of Christ. He took many trips there and long hours to make a copy (using a typewriter) of the Joseph Smith translation in ordervto verify the correctness of it. Due to his hard work and urging we have it in our scriptures. He told of seeing the ink blots and finger prints on that ordinal handwritten copy.
So grateful to the Community of Christ for the loving care they have taken in keeping the Smith family properties and historically important documents over these many many years! God bless you! ❤
Thank you, Community of Christ for your reverence and diligence and devotion to preserve such a sacred and significant collection of sacred edifices and artifacts for Joseph Smith and the church of Jesus Christ.
I appreciate the care that the Community of Christ has shown in preserving our shared history. I know it must have been incredibly difficult for them to divest themselves of places and things we all hold so dear. I hope they take comfort in knowing that The LDS Church will take their stewardship of these historic sites/artifacts seriously and will diligently preserve them.
I for one, I am extremely grateful to the Community of Christ for how well they cared for, respected, and loved these sacred relics. I believe they belong to all of us now, including them still. I think the Church made that very clear during the press release. And yes, we should be very respectful, and kind to them at this tender time. I would also like to point out, however, that no one will care for these sacred things like the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will. I believe the Community of Christ realizes this fact as well. They know how much these things mean to us. Thank goodness our Church was in a financial situation to be able to purchase these things. It not only saved their church, but the sacred relics as well.
@@China-Clay I think my comment is being mid understood, I am genuinely thankful that to the Community of Christ, it wasn’t some kind of snide remark. I probably should have put more thought not it. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord’s true restored Church. That being said, the way was going to be prepared for the sacred sites to come back into His Church. I am happy for us as members, and I’m happy that the Community of Christ was able to get the financial help they so needed. I know it is hard for them, and at the same time of rejoicing I am trying to empathize with out they must feel at this time.
I want to voice my respect and admiration for the Community of Christ. I have fond memories of my family’s visits to the Kirtland Temple, Nauvoo sites, and the beautiful Temple at Independence. I have always been grateful for the wonderful care they have given to these historic sites. May this same sense of accountability continue.
Hi guys, Firstly, congratulations on the recent purchase. I'm not LDS but I recognize the importance of this great news to faithful LDS members. As a book collector, I can also appreciate how happy the LDS Church must be on this wonderful occasion. Also, it is pleasing to know that the property, part of the larger American heritage, will be cherished and maintained. Who knows, perhaps the Community of Christ will someday re-unite with SLC.
I'm beyond thrilled that the church has been able to buy these places and items especially the Kirkland temple. I have immense affection for this building because my great great grandfather Artemus Millett was the temple mason who created the material that covered the temple that glittered in the sun. He never sold the recipe, he said it belonged to the Lord.
I am grateful that the properties and documents have been taken good care of. I do appreciate those who put their time and effort into it. All Christians should bond together in these woke times.
I want to say thank you to the Community of Christ for all the work they did in taking care of these sacred things. I live in Australia and I had the opportunity in 2012 to visit these places I am grateful for the opportunity to visit them and also to visit the Community of Christ temple it was so beautiful. Thank you
Yeah great humility from them. If they know the building is sacred and can’t afford to keep it as they have been doing, it is better for the building sake to buy it to another steward
As has been said by others, we are indebted to the Community of Christ for their stewardship and protection of these priceless artifacts over nearly 180 years. I have long wished for a meeting of the minds between the “Utah Mormons” and the Saints in other places. Who knows whether that will ever happen, but for now, the stewardship for the Kirtland temple has passed to us, and I hope we can do as well as our predecessors.
Yes Greg, I agree that many members do not realize the significance of these buildings and more importantly the Revised Bible Manuscripts. We are eternally grateful to the Community of Christ for maintaining these precious sites and manuscripts.
@@luisleano8515 The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gives away nearly a billion dollars each year to third-world poverty and global disaster relief. And yet there is a proper regard for sacred spaces. Should we be demanded to give without understanding why?

I have such love for the people who have cared for and preserved our historical documents and buildings. May God bless them for all that they’ve done ❤
Thank you, Steven, for stating what my feelings were when I heard the news today. My first reaction was excitement. And a split-second later I felt sadness and thought, "But what about our brothers and sisters in the Community of Christ? How must they feel right now? I had planned on going to Kirtland someday, and I looked forward to meeting them there, and hearing THEIR OWN stories of faith, miracles, and blessings. I hope that through this hard time they are facing right now that they will still feel Christ's loving arms around them, and if there is something we can do as a church to help them not lose connection with their heritage and history, I want to see it be done.
Love these comments, and I appreciate these perspectives as I had not considered the other side of the table. These are obviously very special for both. A thought that came to my mind was what a relief for Emma and Brigham. This may be a metaphorical reach across the table for them as well. A final cap stone, i am sure most of that took place a long time ago. We all have experiences like this in our personal lives, and it's important to keep things personal. The amazing and important thing is that Christ is the reason we all gather at the table together ❤️.
@@lucybrenton149 Hey, I and many LDS are with you. That's why it will be a meshing. Many in the faith will finally see where and in what we went wrong and maybe vice versa with other things. It's going to be a time of change that many don't forsee. However, it just means the end is closer for the coming of the Lord so that is what I am excited about. I am for truth! So here we go!
We are so blessed that the community of Christ has taken such great care of these sacred places. And items. I served in the Nauvoo temple, and got to know some of their members, and formed a friendship with them. They are fine Christian people. Sad for their loose, we will take great care of them and pray they will still visit and love them. carol
Community of Christ has been wonderful to preserve and protect these sacred sites and manuscripts. They were so nice to our LDS tour group when we were late getting to the Kirtland temple. They kept the temple open past their normal closing time especially for us. It is too bad that there have been bad feelings between our churches. I have always felt that they are our "cousins". I am grateful that many of the contentions due to personalities are being healed with this agreement. I am glad the LDS church could help the CoC church out with their financial problems. I am also grateful that the CoC church was willing to entrust the LDS church with these priceless historical items. I honor them for their good stewardship.
Been to the Kirkland Temple. Felt a very important spiritual feeling while there. I know it was not owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. But, you could still feel on how important this place was.
Thank you so much to the Community of Christ church for taking care of these sites. We have been to visit many times and have always had amazing tour guides and felt the spirit there. ❤
As a mender of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints church, I will always be eternally grateful for the community of Christ and their amazing dedication of preserving these sacred structures. Gob bless you.
So grateful Steven reminds us to be respectful and remember how well Community of Christ has taken care of their beloved historical sites. I can't imagine what it would be like to have to sell some of our beloved sites. What would it feel like to sell the Salt Lake City Temple or Temple Square out of dire need. That would hurt.
I have relatives and childhood friends who are members of the Community of Christ. I had no idea there were bad feelings between them and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I ‘m from Texas but my parents and extended family are from the Kansas City, Missouri area. Many are from Independence. We always went to see them and they would come see us. I’m grateful for that.
I so hope this sell will bring together good feelings between the Community of Christ and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I can only imagine how difficult this might have been for your church. You have gone to such great lengths to preserve and protect these buildings, just like we would do. You have loved these buildings, just like we would. Our beginnings are the same through 1844 and we have a great history together. I hope this will bring our congregations closer together
Thank you, Community of Christ for the loving care you gave to the Kirkland temple, the other buildings and the artifacts. And thank you for selling them to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I know it was heartbreaking for you to let them go. God bless you.
I was in Nauvoo years ago, and the RLDS tour guide saw my BYU camera strap and, dismissing me as a "Brighamite," said "Did you know Porter Rockwell tried to run a bar in the Nauvoo House?" not realizing that history is my passion. I looked her in the eye and said, "And Emma had a cow when she found out." I really did enjoy playing that reverse-Uno card on her.
This is so exciting! I'm not sure if I'm more excited about the temple, or the Joseph Smith Translation documents. I'm hoping this will lead to us having more of them integrated into our scriptures. Woot!
Yes. We haven't been able to publish the whole JST because it belonged to the C of C. We have had excerpts, but not the whole thing. I hope we can now publish it all.
I understand how hurt the members of the Community of Christ must be, because as a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ it has always hurt me that we as a Church didn't have all these properties and documents all along. God bless these good people for being good and faithful stewards of them all this time.
I understand how they must feel to have come to the necessary decision to sell these historic sites and artifacts. Notwithstanding the ownership changing hands, I feel that something like this belongs to all of us. It is indeed priceless, but also it is a part of history and knits us all together with this history and trek we all have had as members who traveled to get where we are today. It brings to mind the history again to our minds, the things that have happened at these important places. Hopefully it will nourish and solidify people's testimony, as it links us all to this history and the events, the miracles that happened at these sites, and help us to remember HIM.
I love the Church's statement recognizing how the Church of Christ is their friend who preserved these sacred sites so well. I cannot agree more. I have visited those places and always felt they were proud of these sites in preserving them. This acquisition I am sure is a continuation of that friendship and stewardship.
I am so thankful that these historic sites, items, and documents were so well preserved by their previous caretakers but I am elated that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints can now be the caretakers…
As a life long member of the Community of Christ Church, I am heartbroken. There are no words of comfort. The Kirtland Temple and historical artifacts are sacred and should never have been sold by CoC World Church “leaders”. I understand the LDS are ecstatic, but please know there are thousands of CoC members grieving. My father officiated at the last wedding held in the Kirtland Temple. It has always held a special place in my heart, and yesterday that was ripped away. 💔
A lot of our people are grieving this sale. It is a time of lament for many of us, most especially those whose lives have been built around the stewardship of these sites.
One item to take comfort in. As the impetus for the sale was financial problems, there must have been some question of how with those problems these things that you grieve for would be properly cared. Now there is a greater resource to insure they have all the care you would want. Just a silver lining to the grief, but still a silver lining. I do hope the LDS administration will be able to use those who have been involved in the care of these buildings.
I loved that invitation to not be boastful or gloat in this acquisition. Thank you Steven for that sincere reminder and I'll definitely keep empathy for our brothers and sisters of the Community of Christ in mind as I celebrate this new opportunity for our church to continue their mission of stewardship of that holy place.
Great the first temple of this great dispensation. I knew we would end up purchasing this great temple. I am looking forward in seeing the Joseph smith memorbilia. This is more physical evidence of the divine restoration.
This announcement made my heart swell! I love this amazing addition to our sacred sites. The Kirkland temple Was amazing to behold. ❤ The places in Nauvoo and the other papers and pictures are so wonderful to be shared by all of us. God Bless them for selling it to the church.
When I toured the Kirtland temple a few years ago, the tour guide from the Community of Christ mentioned that restoration and repairs of the temple were limited due to financial strain. So it’s great news to hear since I’m sure the LDS church will take steps to restore it to as a Church history gem! I would be very disappointed if they remodeled it into anything other than a historic site that could be visited by ALL inside and outside the SLC church.
Whoa😱 I'm so excited!! Such amazing news!! Been waiting to hear about this for years, not only for the temple but for the Joseph Smith translation manuscripts. That is big!
I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and live in Nauvoo. I would very much like to see you interview Loch McKay who is an Apostle for The Community of Christ Church. He is a direct descendant of Joseph and Emma. He is the main reason for the change of attitude between the two churches.
There has been a lot of work done to improve relationships between our churches, Not just Apostle Lach MacKay. Apostle Dale Luffman comes to mind. I believe Lach continues the work Dale started.
I love the transparency of stating the price :) shows they really are working towards keeping new transparency with things and I think long term it will be helpful:)
That's awesome. Sounds like both sides were feeling pretty good about it. The LDS Church will be able to maintain and keep it up and they're allowing the Community of Christ to still be able to have certain meetings there so, in a way, it's like nothing has changed, the LDS Church now takes their turn to look after it and keep it going. Awesome investment. I, honestly, thought the Church would have purchased it, opened it to tours, and then closed it and re-dedicated it as holy ground for those to be in it but require a recommend to preserve its sacred nature but, in their infinite wisdom, it's served it's purpose and is a place for people to tour and spark their curiosity to ask questions. I think CoC had it closed off for their own purposes but, cool to see the mutual agreement and mutual respect, which has always been there
@@lizaruth2a That's true, but understand that the CoC are very much about preserving and knowing their history. We think we know history, but it's by listening to them that we learn things we didnt already know but they do. Doctrine may be different, but they've preserved stories we may be don't know. Kyle McLaughlin is one of their Twelve and a descendent of Joseph Smith and he prides himself on knowing his history, it's important we try and carry that on. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you, you're seeing this through eyes that others aren't that just see the Church acquiring this for bragging rights and look at how we can outbid you, that's not our place, it's not our money. We paid our 10% and God opened the windows of heaven, it's now his funds, not ours, but he put Israel in their place in the time of Moses when they were on their high horse and he broke them right back down. He can take away the 90% if he wants and let you follow in poverty if he so chooses. Let's be real here, those in poverty understand it best. Not everyone has been blessed with a sharp mind. Some of us struggled horribly through school having to work really hard with varying disabilities learning and our hard work still yielded poor grades which makes it hard to get into college and do well there, which makes it hard to get a good job that pays really well, so we make do and get by a little at a time. Some turn to crime to survive, while others fly by with tremendous success, it's just the hand we were dealt and it's difficult to watch others send their daughters to school with her friends driving a Camero, I just say it today. He may say "Hey! I worked really hard to get through school and give my daughter that car" but, look at the other guy who worked hard and it still couldn't work out for him and he's living and having to still beg to feed his family, some people don't understand but God can take it away as easily as he gave it to you. I can appreciate you're seeing this through a lens of the grander purpose though, but not everyone will understand it like this. CoC and other branches might be seeing this as the struggling brother that big brother maybe gave them some money for a bailout to help them, and while he can make it a little longer just can't seem to figure why big brother was given all the advantages from the start where he and his other siblings have had to struggle. I get all that
@@GMMXX80Good reminder. I will say (as someone who still lives hand-to-mouth): I'm so glad I have paid my tithing and that it has been able to go to such a use, as well as the building of Temples. People meow about how much money the Church has stashed away and I'm glad that they have the wherewithal to do this kind of thing. I understand that I'm a partaker in this blessing: I won't be made to look with distrust and antagonism at the leadership.
The Community of Christ has never closed off our temples. That is not part of our tradition and nor has it ever been part of the Kirtland Temple tradition. I believe that started in Utah or maybe Nauvoo. If you ever get to Kansas City, you should visit our beautiful temple there.
Wait, did he say that we finally got the JST manuscripts??? If so that means the church can make their own edition with study helps! Super excited for that.
We have a family reunion this summer in nauvoo and so this is particularly wonderful to be able to visit the mansion house, the red brick store and the Smith family homestead with the church’s name. Very neat.
The scripture citation index has the entire bible with JST incorporated free for anyone to read. That is what I read for the two years we studied the Bible. It was so good was fascinating to see the plain and precious things that had been taken out.
I'm not patting myself on the back however, I felt impressed to tell my wife a couple of months ago in regards to President Nelson's remarks about the imminent miracles that we ( The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.... ) would soon acquire the Kirkland Temple!!!!! This is just more evidence that bolsters my testimony that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that is headquartered in SLC is THE Church of Jesus Christ in these Latter Days!!!!! AND this is not meant in a cheeky way.... I also want to thank the Community of Christ for being great stewards for the historical things of our shared history that they've helped to preserve!!!!!
I was in the Kirtland Stake, under President Lee and Tim Headrick as 1st counselor. I was in the Hiram Ward at the John Johnson home and Farm. That home is where D&C section 76, the degrees of glory revelation were given, as long as the preface of the D&C and more. Also, it is where Joseph Smith was tarred and feathered. We have been looking forward to obtaining the Kirtland Temple back for years-so many great things happened in there. Research Truman Madsons section 5 on the Kirtland Temple Era and Joseph Smith it is very faith-promoting! President Nelson was right. "We will see many great manifestations of the Savior and His church before He returns." In the state of 2024, all the wars and rumors of wars, famines, earthquakes, and all the negative signs of the times, it is nice to have some good news.
I would hope the lds church will continue to keep the community of Christ involved with the Kentland temple and allow them to continue as care takers of the grounds
CAMPS? When I was young, the Community of Christ had a lovely Southern California camp at *_Idylwild_* where we went for some over-nighters; father and son outings, youth conferences. The RLDS were always so generous to share that camp with us.
@@CwicShow Greg, you know Idylwild too? Excellent ! Yes, it is on Mount San Jacinto. I wonder how my RLDS school friend Matt McDonald is doing? We went to Alta Loma Junior High School together.
Even physical posession of the GOLDEN PLATES is not as valuable as a $2 edition of The Book of Mormon in your own language because THAT is how God wants you to gain the ultimate treasure He intends
"The plates thereof are of no worth..." I rejoice in this acquisition, and I am glad the Church had the money to do it. I am grateful that God removed the Plates from this world, so they couldn't be made subject to the assignment of monetary value which could not possibly have been avoided if they had been allowed to remain in mortal possession.
From what I understand, although they knew it could, would probably happen, they had no clue. The Kirtland Community of Christ are devastated by the suddenness of this announcement.
The lord has preserved these things for his own purposes.. and the truths that can be revealed from what they have kept true until this day.. I hope that it will shine more light on things that our church never had the privilege of having..
@@melissam.pledger6467 Independence. Although there is a temple lot in Far West too, but I believe The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints already owns the Far West temple plot; I could definitely be wrong on that though.
The LDS church already owns a portion of the temple light in independence. At least four different branches of the church have a presence there and I can assure you that the Community of Christ Temple on that lot will never be for sale.
Can’t help but wonder if this was in the works for a while and that the soon to be under construction Cleveland Temple (about 30 minutes away) was a way to prove to the CoC that the Kirtland Temple will stay a historical landmark, but also provide a way for Latter-day Saints to be able to worship in a temple after touring a sacred place from the past. Awesome news!
Nauvoo and Kirtland are two places I've always wanted to visit. Both sites have always been special to me and I'm looking forward to visiting both and meeting some of those who have looked after all these sites over the years. ❤❤
Steven, I just have to correct you. You mentioned several times that the Community of Christ Church was "Joseph Smith's church" and "Joseph Smith's family's church." You then stated that the church in Salt Lake was also "Joseph Smith's church." We have never ever considered ourselves Joseph Smith's church. This is Jesus Christ's church restored in the latter days. Jesus Christ is the Head. Not Joseph Smith.
If Steven meant Joseph Smith III's church in reference to CofC that would be accurate. All of JSJr & Emma's sons belonged to and established the RLDS/Community of Christ church. However, we are all part of The Body of Christ.
@brenwilliams6163 Maybe you do not understand the nuance. I am aware that Joseph Smith III founded the CofC church and was a member of it. If CofC people want to claim the church as "Joseph's church," then they certainly can do so. 3 Nephi 27:8 The Lord was asked what the name of the church should be, and this was His response, "How be it my church save it be called in my name? For if a church be called in Moses' name, then it be Moses' church; or if it be called in the name of a man then it be the church of a man; but if it be called in my name then it is my church, if it so be that they are built upon my gospel." For members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints, it takes away ownership of the church from the Lord Jesus Christ and gives ownership of the church to Joseph Smith to call it "Joseph's church." The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints has never been Joseph's church and will never be Joseph's church. This was the point that I was making.
I heard decades ago that we had lent the CofC big money, secured by the historic sites. So I’m wondering if all or part of the purchase price is money they owed us.
Let's hope and pray that this purchase helps the C of C and the LDS Churches come to more of a "unity of the faith", as mentioned by the Apostle Paul anciently in his epistle to the Ephesians.
They had the history written by John Whitmer!!! Now THAT is something I'm excited to read! He was the first church historian and took the history of those first 7 years and refused to return it to Joseph when Joseph asked for it. Hopefully it will be authentic, unadulterated and unedited... like what Brigham had done to what they had. Time will tell!
So our church has authentic photographs of J.Smith & Emma Smith! Wow! Hope the church releases those photo(s) to the public so we can all end the "what do they actually look like?" debate!!! And Id like to see those other docs/artifacts. Amazing!
Oh, and I can’t wait to see what Joseph wrote to Emma, what is in the he JST of the Bible (new scriptures perhaps?), and what the characters of the gold plates look like. I hope we find out soon.
We owe a debt of gratitude to the Community of Christ for their stewardship of these sacred holdings.

I also had the impression that this purchase is a part of the Restitution of all things!!!!
What an amazing day!! This day will be a day in the LDS history that will bring untold blessings!!
Easy to remember too, Caucus day for the US 2024 elections. Everything is historic going forward I bet
Really? I feel super bad for C of Christ, this must be a great loss for them
Not for the people that hold pensions and retirement plans in their church@@China-Clay

How wonderful! And yes - THANK YOU Community of Christ, for looking after the Temple so well. My heart goes out to you.
By the way, they're Community of Christ, not the church of christ
I thought the same thing; if not us(LDS) who would have purchased these historical artifacts, and to what end?@rutht2023
Well said.
THIS SO GREAT!!!!!!! Thank you Community of Christ for being such GREAT CARETAKERS!
Seriously, dude, this is a huge loss for them, huge, think about it first

I think my comment is being mid understood, I am genuinely thankful that to the Community of Christ, it wasn’t some kind of snide remark.
Thank you for handling this respectfully! Humble gratitude for our shared history with the Community of Christ.
Thank you for your heart felt congratulations! Personally, I see it as a win-win for all those who love this history.
I am also a book collector! ❤
Thank you, Stephen. That is my hope as well. ✨️
I'm happy for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; all these will bring added blessings to all the people in the world.
Precious story. Thanks.✨️
Thank you to the Community of Christ members. Y’all are in my prayers ❤️
Thank you
Love both you guys ! Keep your chin up Community of Christ ! I'm glad the LDS Church could help you. You are our Brothers and Sisters.
I'm also grateful to Robert J. Matthews who did the work to verify that the JST matched the original manuscript.
So grateful the two churches could come to this agreement. The best spent $192 Million ever!

It's the beginning of a meshing together, for all who believe to make Zion happen. I don't think they will feel sad for long!

The LDS missionaries when we visited 2021 maintained the grounds.
When we visited 2021 I was told the LDS missionaries maintained the property of the Kirkland Temple.

Hallelujah! I never thought I'd live to see this day! I'm happy to still be here!
I believe this is one of those miracles President Nelson said to look out for in the coming days. Much more to come.
I mean the C of C did steal all of our historical sites and now they're selling them back to us. Not exactly brotherly.
I wonder how my RLDS school friend Matt McDonald is doing?
We went to Alta Loma Junior High School together.
Matt are you out there?
Woot!
Right?! This is better than Christmas to a child. Lol. I'm incredibly grateful and so excited! 😇🥰
Both of your comments express exactly how I am feeling.
Seriously? Brigham stole many of Joseph's personal papers and documents, and refused to return them to Emma...
I work two days a week in the Church History Library in Salt Lake City. Boy, is tomorrow going to be an interesting day there.
I love the Church's statement recognizing how the Church of Christ is their friend who preserved these sacred sites so well. I cannot agree more. I have visited those places and always felt they were proud of these sites in preserving them. This acquisition I am sure is a continuation of that friendship and stewardship.
Thank you Community of Christ for your stewardship. I hope this brings more unity between Saints who share a rich and beautiful history.
I am so thankful that these historic sites, items, and documents were so well preserved by their previous caretakers but I am elated that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints can now be the caretakers…
Love this message!! I am so grateful. I believe the world will benefit from this, especially the LdS members learning more truth
Huge! Many outside the LDS faith don’t understand the significance of this. Thanks Greg!
I like that comment of reconciliation between the Community of Christ and the Church of Latter-day Saints.

The places in Nauvoo and the other papers and pictures are so wonderful to be shared by all of us.

Fantastic news. My visit there made me wish we owned the Kirkland Temple
Thank you community of Christ for what you’ve done for the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints and our people. We are your cousins.
I think CoC had it closed off for their own purposes but, cool to see the mutual agreement and mutual respect, which has always been there
Truly, it's a great example of how to reach across the table. Both are to be commended. ❤
I think another door that is opened by this change is the ability to have missionaries lead the tours, which is pretty cool.

Steven, I just have to correct you. You mentioned several times that the Community of Christ Church was "Joseph Smith's church" and "Joseph Smith's family's church." You then stated that the church in Salt Lake was also "Joseph Smith's church."
We have never ever considered ourselves Joseph Smith's church.
3 Nephi 27:8
The Lord was asked what the name of the church should be, and this was His response, "How be it my church save it be called in my name? For if a church be called in Moses' name, then it be Moses' church; or if it be called in the name of a man then it be the church of a man; but if it be called in my name then it is my church, if it so be that they are built upon my gospel."
For members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints, it takes away ownership of the church from the Lord Jesus Christ and gives ownership of the church to Joseph Smith to call it "Joseph's church." The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints has never been Joseph's church and will never be Joseph's church. This was the point that I was making.
My heart is full
I’m excited to see what the church has in store for this historic building. Can’t wait to go!
I heard decades ago that we had lent the CofC big money, secured by the historic sites. So I’m wondering if all or part of the purchase price is money they owed us.
After reading the press statement, I now get why we purchased this. 👍🙏🇦🇺
The CWIC Show is the gold standard in LDS news and commentary
Appreciate that!
Love it! This is a true blessing!
This is sooo fantastic!! Can’t wait to maybe go and visit the sites!
Amazing!
Oil paintings, portrait. There is a daguerreotype that recently surfaced showing Joseph's like was, however. It is still in the Smith family.
@@brenwilliams6163 ok. I must have misheard or misunderstood. Bummer. But an oil painting portrait is still nice.
Revelation 110 was received in thwt temple very keystone about exaltation of families the hearth of the gospel
Oh, and I can’t wait to see what Joseph wrote to Emma, what is in the he JST of the Bible (new scriptures perhaps?), and what the characters of the gold plates look like. I hope we find out soon.
The Joseph Smith Translation was published by the RLDS/Community of Christ as the "Inspired Version" of the Bible. It's not like it was hidden.
