Together, let's try to make the world a better place one reaction at a time. Lots of people watch my videos, hopefully I brought a smile to your face, so let's try to bring more smiles to people's faces together. Plus together we can promote these great artists and expose them to lots of people. A little support from you goes a long way because it helps to not only inspire me but also to cover my expenses so I can keep making these videos. You can make a big difference for as little as the cost of a cup of coffee. It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice :-) bit.ly/3wo0V1K
This is an original song which was written by the Avi Kaplan (the PTX original bass/beard and beanie) and Kevin Olusola(the beat boxer)who is not beat boxing on this one but adding to the harmonies. I agree with you you 100% as to the importance of the bass. I always hear Avi's bass over the other members because its so warm and at times I can feel the vibration in my ears and chest. Avi does have some solos and he has quite the range. Most of his solos are in the baritone range. Hallelujah is absolutely stunning (615M views for the video and a live version ua-cam.com/video/haFHrfmfHbc/v-deo.html), Daft Punk (1st grammy win) is great, Love Again is another original which I believe was also written by Avi and Kevin. You wont want to miss Imagine and Bohemian Rhapsody either. Its nice to watch the earlier performances first to get a better sense of who they are individually, where they started and how they got where they are today.
Beautiful original...sent shiver down my body..Thanks man enjoyed this and your reaction. One of their greatest strengths is their ability to be separate but layered and blended in harmony so well.
The bass and the beatboxer. Kevin is the beat and Avi is bass. You keep thinking that Kevin is bass but he's not. His voice is actually much higher. In sound of silence Matt is bass. He replaced Avi in 2017.
Yes, as you noticed there was no beatboxing (rhythm) in this one. Their beatboxer Kevin sang harmony instead which enabled them to do up to 5 part harmonies.
This was covered by so many vocal groups and choirs. PTX were generous enough to offer the musical chart for free on their official site. I think it is such a great example of the beauty of dissonant chords. They know their music and they sure can sing it with the required passion. We are so lucky these five (seven with Ben Bram and Matt Sallee) talented angels got together to pamper our ears. Great reaction. Thanks. 🤗
This song couldn’t have been covered by ANY other group. Why? It’s an ORIGINAL SONG. Written by original bass Avi Kaplan and beatboxer Kevin Olusola. It’s one of my favorites by PTX.
As Geoff said, this was a collab between Avi & Kevin, but it was mostly Avi's influence (with final arranging input from Ben Bram). If you listen to Avi's solo music, you can hear similarities. As for Avi getting solos in PTX, there were only a couple. This one, "Standing By" is an original and he was chosen to sing it because he could handle emotional songs better than the others (plus he apparently wrote his own part). BTW, Avi was an opera major in college, trained as a basso profundo, and minored in theory/composition/arranging. Here's the link for "Standing By": ua-cam.com/video/iASS_9-xbrk/v-deo.html
Here's an interesting video for you, Matt. This is from an a cappella workshop Avi worked with back in 2017, before he announced his departure from PTX. He directs the large group in singing "Run To You" (which he was the primary composer of), and really gets into it, especially when they get to "how shall I win back", where he reaches out, up on his tiptoes, to draw the emotion from the singers. In fact, before he was recruited into PTX back in 2011, in college, Avi was weighing a career in opera against becoming a choral director. He's done a lot of work with students over the years, doing workshops in and performing with high school and college choirs. So here's the link to that video - ua-cam.com/video/xYVPyw8Q9fI/v-deo.html
Avi's dedication to promoting a cappella really burst forward when, in 2014, he, along with PTX producer/arranger Ben Bram and composer/arranger Rob Dietz founded the A Cappella Academy, a 10-day intensive Summer music camp for 12 to 18-year olds from all over the world. They have training in vocals, performing, theory, and specialties like beatboxing and bass singing (which Avi often teaches). At the end of the 10 days, they do a showcase, with small groups and the full academy choir. To give you an idea why Avi says that ACA is his proudest achievement yet, here's the 2019 class performing his original "The Seed". Listen to the love they put into it for their ACA Dad. ua-cam.com/video/XZ89BHmRfws/v-deo.html
It was written by Avi Kaplan (the bass) and Kevin Olusola (usually the beatboxer). Mostly written by Avi. (You might want to listen to Avi's solo work, which is very different from what PTX tends to sing.)
So glad you reacted to this one, it's one of my favorites! I just subbed for it, plus I really enjoy your reactions! Try "Gold" or "New Rules X Are You That Somebody"... Or a couple more originals..."Love Again" and "Can't Sleep Love".

Pentatonix will never have that rich sound again without Avi. Vocally, he has it all. Are they still a good group? I guess, but when Avi left, the group declined. Even Ben Bram who has arranged a lot of music for them said they have had to cease doing some of the songs Avi was in because there is no one with Avi's vocal range and richness.

This was a joint composition between Kevin and Avi. Completely original!.
Thanks!))
This song is sad but also absolutely beautiful.
Really great comments about this song. The stunning harmonies just make this song.
I think this is one of the most beautiful ballads ever written.
Welcome to the rabbit hole called PTX! You won’t be disappointed!!

Indeed a PTX original. Thanks for posting.
Yes, it is an original. The bass and the beat boxer wrote it. As he says, write to your strengths.

Great reaction, thanks! Would love to see your reaction to Mad World and Imagine... 😊
Great reaction to a great video. Thanks!!!
💕💕💕🎶🎶🎶 Thank you🦋
My pleasure!))
Thanks!!
I saw you did disturbeds sound of silence. Pentatonixs version is better in my opinion. Would be interrested in seeing what you think.
To make the flakes rise in the video they sang the "I'll run" parts backwards. Then those parts were reversed.
Thanks!!)

Watch Hallelujah or Say Something to hear Avi, the bass.
Thank you. I actually did hallelujah. Search for it on my channel under the Pentatonix playlist. Thanks
