Nice memories. This was my first Quorn event, after a 16 year gap of not going to a UK bus rally. Weather was awful, but the rally was excellent. You just caught me riding on Leicester 40 leaving Loughborough station.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. We were very lucky with the weather as the heavy rain forecast never arrived. Not sure what happened during my trip on 796 as it was supposed to meet up with Delaine RCT3 for a photostop outside the old Yeates factory in Loughborough but somehow did a massive detour and missed the rendezvous.
@@GrahamSleath I remember in 2019, when we arrived in the rather exposed car park field, it was blowing a blustery gale across it. Don't think my wife was very impressed (she is French, but is used to the British weather) and thought me a bit mad. Our two kids probably didn't want to be there. But we had a wonderful day riding on a couple of buses and meeting up with a few ex colleagues from my time at Midland Fox. I hadn't seen them in well over 20 years. Shame the photo shoot didn't happen. That would've been excellent - to celebrate local industry. Over the last 10 years I've been really interested in the area, as ancestors on my Dad's side were from Loughborough, Hathern & Shepshed. I think my Great Great Grandad was on Loughborough Town Council in the late 1800's.
@@MegaBreadvan I think 2019 was the exception as it is normally good weather. Hope you can make it over next May for the next one. I might struggle as there is another one also on the Sunday of that weekend.
@@GrahamSleath I might struggle too, as although we'll be in the UK in April, I can't really justify making the trip up again just a few weeks after returning to France. The Eurostar aint cheap. A friend of mine would probably put me up if I did, if he can't that would mean a hotel. We'll see... I would perhaps like to go to another event elsewhere later in the year.
Thanks for your comments. Glad you enjoyed it. I am hoping to be out and about again in the summer. The trust are planning to hold a running day Saturday 9th October 2021.
Thank you for this. I would have loved to have seen and travelled on the buses, I'll definitely be there next year. I am a huge bus fan but it's not something you hear people getting excited about generally
Jennifer, thanks for your comments. If you check out the Trust's website you will see that they are holding another running day in Leicester on 27th July if you can make it. I agree that most people don't get as excited as about The Flying Scotsman for instance but these events are great days out for all the family especially as being able to experience bus and train travel as it used to be which has been lost with the new low floor buses.
Keep an eye on the Leicester Transport Heritage Trust website for when the next Bus & Train Spectacular at GCR Quorn & Woodhouse Station will take place. Currently postponed from 25th April 2020.
👍👍👍 Good job on the action shots. Hearing the sound of the engine's as the buses drive past...

@@GrahamSleath Will have to try and get down - and hopefully back helping restore locos as it makes a change from repairing lock gates
No mistaking the sound of the Routemaster approaching!
Fascinating
Spectacular!
