He just casually says “I was on these shows, Johnny bravo, dexter’s laboratory, cow and chicken” as if that wasn’t the prime age of Cartoon Network for us millennials.
Too many people only recognize him for Family Guy, which is legendary in its own right but this man was a part of nearly every legendary 90’s cartoon series.
That's years after every critic and detractor has accused him of plagiarizing that show for his three animated family shows (though American Dad is only like The Simpsons when Mike Scully took over between seasons 9 to 12, which is when a lot of people claim that the show was going downhill. Me, I think season 13 was the downward spiral).

My animator buddy Ron worked with Seth in the first couple seasons of Family Guy, said he was super shy, could barely look people in the eye. He’s amazed at how confident Seth has become, a beautiful story of transformation.
He always has to have a glass of Whiskey still whenever he goes on a talk show so while he has become more confident through the years he's still quite a shy anxious person. But Trey and Matt are still comedy geniuses especially when it comes to social and political commentary. I think they might be getting a bit burnt out on South Park, hence the whole #cancelsouthpark "joke". And who wouldn't after 20+ seasons of running the same show. They are still very much hands on creators of every episode, they still write every script, create storyboards, direct animation, and do 90% of the voices (in under a week per episode). Which is why it's still very funny, it just evolved cause Trey and Matt are just like any other human being, they grow up, change their opinions and their view on life, try new things and so on.
The Orville is the best Star Trek since Voyager. The way they address heavy subjects, the humor found withing the situations and characters themselves, the way you can tell Seth had his fingers in every aspect of it.
I freaking love the Orville, and literally everything this man touches. I would give my right nut to shake his hand and say thank you. It will never happen, but this man and his creations have gotten me through some really tough and dark times in my life.
even some doctors say laughter is the best medicine. I have always wondered if people recognise the healing power of humor. Keep your right nut, just send him an email or letter to thank him, I think he would prefer that.
It's crazy. If you're not into doing research, you'd never really see Seth's intelligent side. The guys smart, and he's actually had a hand in alot of 90s cartoons, not only that but he's a decent actor and he's really funny. But people who never research people behind certain shows or movies (Family Guy, American Dad, Ted 1 & 2, AMWTDITWW, etc) would think he was just this goofy, over the top, dirty minded comedian. When he is really an artist. There's a reason Family Guy and American Dad have lasted 20 years+.(even if the quality of jokes has gone down).
And one thing no one really mentions is the fact that Seth basically wrote nothing for family guy, none of the content or jokes were his 99.9% of the time. He literally wrote 2 episodes and 1 segment for an episode, that’s it.
I think what gets overlooked easily as well is that you have to be really smart to create shows that are humorous commentaries on reality. He’s brilliant. And I love the fact that he hasn’t given up on Star Trek proper and hence created the Orville.
@@ERAOSUDT That's not entirely true though. He was the showrunner, so is rarely going to get his name on a writing credit, but the entire team would contribute to an episode, but you need like over 30% of the content of a script for a writing credit or something, so it generally goes to whoever wrote the majority of the script. As showrunner, he would be the one guiding the stories and jokes though.
Seth’s humor just connects with me. Even little jokes in orville are hilarious to me. The dude knows how to capture mini frustrations through the day and satirize them.
I really enjoy listening to Seth talk. Not only is his voice (obviously one I'm very familiar with) very deep and soothing, but the way in which he speaks, his vocabulary, it's all very mesmerizing to just hear him talk.....about literally anything.
“A million ways to die in the West” has been one of my go-to comedies to show to people since it came out. I always thought it was so underrated and has a huge laugh every 30 seconds it feels like. And the cast, and writing was just perfect. Like watching a live action Cartoon. Wish it was a series.
He is so intelligent and well-spoken yet still able to explain and recount events so succinctly that anyone can follow it. He makes things that are extremely difficult look so effortless
One thing I really do love about family guy is how occasionally we see an entire musical-style segment in the show(Christmas time is killing us for example) and i like that Seth puts that in cause it’s cool to see sometimes
Followed Seth through Family Guy, some of his other projects but The Orville is the one I am resonating with a lot these days because it harkens to the type of Sci-Fi show I grew up with, and pays respect to it as much as occasionally brings comedy to a situation that wasn't there before. Please watch The Orville... it's more than just a sci-fi comedy... it's become something more!
Seth understands the human condition at a higher level then most people and it shows in his characters. He sees what can be considered as small quirks and helps them to shine. He has tacked many different scenarios within all his shows. His shows are also very deep if you look behind the comedy, there are lots of serious topics that pop up and his shows show different ways to tackle those topics in both positive and negative matters.
Seth McFarland is the fist person I've ever heard articulation the technical reasoning for the artificial Mid-Atlantic accent - to accommodate the limitations of the recording technology of the day.

Let's be honest here everyone: Family Guy changed television and the whole course of cartoons and general everyday television all together. Pushing the boundaries and developing content in which wasn't ever done such as every episode flashbacks, cartoon to real people cutscenes, killing 4th and 5th walls, aiming at the whole history of television, Family Guy pushed every single border you can think of and made it hilarious. The spell Family Guy has on television and entertainment fans will be forever and ever. The modern Simpson's, even Matt Groening acknowledged that Family Guy is one of the greatest. We own our modern sarcasms and societal comedy to shows like this.
You spelled South Park wrong so many times in that statement. Let's be honest, Family Guy has influenced a lot and several points you made are close to accurate, but boundary pushing was entirely brought on by Matt and Trey.
Christophaws Canopy......Completely agree. I know peoples taste in comedy is different, but how could anyone deny the ratings, the succes, the $BILLIONS it's made.

I love Family Guy, I love American Dad, but The Orville just hits different. It doesnt have that over the top humor, it can goofy, it can be serious, it can be thought-provoking, I think it really captures the essence of what a space adventure show should be. Why people loved and obsessed over Star Trek. Star Wars is about war, Star Trek is about exploration. And I think thats why I love the show so much. Also Adrienne Palicki is gorgeous 😉💕

Both Family Guy and American Dad haven't been particularly good lately - but I still love them both to death. Always have it running off to the side while I'm working. So many great spoofs of classic 80s television, film, and other pop-culture references. Then you have all the great musical numbers that are either fun parodies themselves - or maybe even fully original songs like "Down Syndrome Girl." Futurama is still king to me - but I'll always sit back and enjoy an episode of FG or American Dad too
Well Seth has stated on multiple interviews that have come out recently that he hasn't been a part of the writing for those shows for more than a decade.. He's just a VA for them now. Must be strange to see your creation taken to a whole different direction than what you initial cultivated.
Orville great completely agree however, million ways to die is ok at best. There’s a few joke in million ways that are great but for the most part that movie is a big mess and better left forgotten
The Orville is my favorite show you've done, Mr. McFarland. It's got that perfect mix of silly and social commentary that makes you think of things in a new light without being depressing. That said my favorite episode was probably the most depressing episode. Lt. Malloy simulated a girlfriend, and I could totally see myself doing something like that. I'm so glad it's back on Hulu.
Listening to this really inspired me. I always thought of doing stuff like this (as far as animation, voice acting, and comedy) but I never knew how I should but Seth’s story to how he got here really hit me in the right places. Love this man and his amazing shows.
I genuinely love the Orville. I'm a big sci fi fan and really like star trek (I'm named after Jadzia Dax lol) and I honestly like the Orville more than the more recent star trek projects. I didn't expect it to be so good. I really thought it was just gonna be like some silly star trek like parody but it balances the humor and drama so well. Even the intro theme is so reminiscent of that classic star trek theme. Its just great overall
Huh... So I've been a long time fan of this guy without realizing it. It's like he kind of raised a couple of generations with his talent. Our humor is a reflection if this man's genius ideas. I hope he is as happy as he looks all the time. He deserves it.
I love The Orville... so addictive, so funny, so adventureous, just pure fun (oh, but it's also serious, just as Seth said it, it really became a serious show by the second season, and the viewers are becoming increasingly invested into the story and the characters).🌌

@@bottomtext4343 No its really not, it's convoluted and pretentious. South Park is repetitive and boring and the writing is extremely lazy
Stop worshiping other humans!
Seth is an example of how class is still prioritized with some of us men.
I can't imagine a world with no Seth. He is a genius and I am happy family guy existed. That cartoon taught me how to speak English.
Could’ve been a world without him as he was meant to be on 9/11
Awesome. What's your native language?

It’s basic human decency.
American Dad is my favorite show. Roger is an absolutely genius character.
“A million ways to die in the West” has been one of my go-to comedies to show to people since it came out. I always thought it was so underrated and has a huge laugh every 30 seconds it feels like. And the cast, and writing was just perfect. Like watching a live action Cartoon. Wish it was a series.
Love that movie. I’ve seen it 4 or 5 times and still die of laughter
“If I die out there, can you both do me a favor and please… just switch seats once.”
“…………f*ck off.”

The Orville is criminally underrated...happy Seth added that to his crazy impressive accolades

I really hope season 3 is not the last
Ted and Ted 2 were absolutely hilarious. I've seen both of them twice. I wish he would make a Ted 3. I'd definitely see it in theaters.

God I love this man. Like no joke I'm shocked he's not considered a heartthrob in Hollywood. HE sings he dances he does literally everything.
This feels like such an honest interview. I really respect these answers. Complete new found respect for Seth. What an amazing creator.
Great comment, I sometimes feel alone when I state that 'Seth McFarlane's a genius.'. Not many people seem to see that.
@@babblingalong7689 many people I know love him and respect him.
Seth McFarland is the fist person I've ever heard articulation the technical reasoning for the artificial Mid-Atlantic accent - to accommodate the limitations of the recording technology of the day.
The Orville is fantastic btw. Its probably Seth's best written thing to date!
I agree! It's so underrated!
I saw them filming on the fox lot in LA before and walked right past Seth. Pretty cool to see behind the scenes
That is amazing! I saw Seth & the cast signing autographs and promoting the Orville season 3 on Hulu back in 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con. So glad it's finally done and airing on Hulu!
American Dad: Finally! A worthy opponent! Our battle will be legendary.
I concur 😊

Family Guy and American Dad have given me so many laughs, with unlimited rewatchability. Looking forward to the Ted show!

Indeed. At all costs
Both Family Guy and American Dad haven't been particularly good lately - but I still love them both to death. Always have it running off to the side while I'm working. So many great spoofs of classic 80s television, film, and other pop-culture references.
Then you have all the great musical numbers that are either fun parodies themselves - or maybe even fully original songs like "Down Syndrome Girl."
Futurama is still king to me - but I'll always sit back and enjoy an episode of FG or American Dad too
Well Seth has stated on multiple interviews that have come out recently that he hasn't been a part of the writing for those shows for more than a decade.. He's just a VA for them now. Must be strange to see your creation taken to a whole different direction than what you initial cultivated.
