It was a whole different world, very stylish and Will Smith was one of the most popular hollywood actors who had just made Bad Boys and the mega successful Independence Day a few years before. So his Fresh Prince style swag was fun coupled with the unique style, world and action... it was fun. fell in love with the franchise after that... SO that nostalgia will make it difficult to follow MiB international... maybe on a flight or when it shows on TV after a year or two...
I still watch MIB 1 whenever I feel down. It fills me with joy and nostalgia! Back then movies were made for us now mostly movies are being made for investors.
Still think "Ghostbusters v. MIB" was the big comeback these franchises needed. The Ghostbusters trap a demon, only for the MIB to show up and inform them that the demon was actually an alien ambassador whose species is now waging war against Earth.
I still have the first 2 Men in Black songs that Will Smith made for Men in Black 1 & 2 in my iTunes playlist. I was kinda disappointed he didn't make another for MIB 3. I think I'll go see the Aladdin movie just see how he puts his own personal spin on some of those classic songs from the first movie.
He would probably say what started as an epic deconstruction of fantasy grounded them to realism and later to an awesome dark fantasy, now to a terrible storyline that makes no sense.

To be fair this is true for almost every sequel ever made though. same story structure and premise with a different setting or characters. The only real exception is when the sequel is a direct continuation of the story (lord of the rings, star wars etc) and even LOTR itself is arguably a reboot of the hobbit.
@@Chad_Eldridge its not an argument though (or a criticism of being unoriginal) its more that its actually the point of a sequel, the story or premise was good enough that it was worth re-telling. Some of the most highly regarded sequels ever are essentially just reskins of the original idea. Terminator 2, ghostbusters 2 and aliens are classic examples off the top of my head. There are exceptions though like films based on books such as the harry potter series where its actually one long story and not a sequel created after the fact.

Will Smith was in top form and Edgar the Bug was a thoroughly entertaining villain. 2 was meh, Jeff was the best character. 3 felt like it was trying too hard, even Josh Brolin and Jemaine Clement couldn't save it. But credit where it's due - Brolin's young K/Tommy Lee Jones impression was spot on.

In case anyone is wondering the series they're promoting, Good Omens is based on a book by Terry Pratchett and Niel Gaiman.
Hyped just for David Tennant.
That would be SIR Terry Pratchett.
With a sword he made himself, adding a meteor into the molten metal and beating the sword out himself. A sword which by British law, even when knighted by the queen, he wasn't allowed to carry in public.
Giaman started it, and let Pratchett read the first 5k words, which was all there was. Pratchett said, "Can I have this? I want write this to see how it ends. Or would you like to do a collaboration?" And Giaman says this was like being asked by Michael Angelo if you wanted to help him...
