Dave's experience clearly demonstrates why all retail banks in the UK are nearly the same. You have to comply with the level playing field model of banking, otherwise do something else.
Watched the documentary about Bank of Dave years ago and was so impressed by him, then watched the film the other night. Them this came up on my UA-cam
Oh my god it’s actually filmed in Burnley. I grew up in Burnley and my grandad actually knew Dave but it’s amazing that it’s actually filmed around here.
Well impressed with Dave, works damn hard and is clearly a lateral thinker! People could learn a lot from just watching this guy's unrelenting enthusiasm! Well done.
Why isn’t everyone taking about this…oh that’s right 🤫 just watched the Netflix film, see then this morning interview, this guy is a saint 😂if only there was more Dave’s 😂
2 things: firstly, dave is an exemplary character. I absolutely fucking love this bloke. I aspire to live as upbeat as he is. I feel like I lost that spark at some point in my early 20s. I was very jokey like dave in my teens, would natter shite to anyone and make them smile. Dave's a really useful influence right now, if we had a country full of Dave we'd be in a far better world. 2nd thing: This is an eye opening explanation of why we're in such a shit banking situation. "you can't open a bank unless you've already opened a bank" - why are we putting up with this absolute joke?
Dave Fishwick never got a bank license. And nothing in this series explains why. However, many times they do not understand what an actual bank license allows - if they did "there'd be a revolution by the morning" - Henry Ford.
I remember watching this when it first aired all those years ago now. He's such a huge character that I don't think the actor on the recent Netflix film does him justice. The actor did well, but he has none of the charm and fun that the real Dave has
'Bankers will lend you an umbrella when the sun is shining and ask for it back with the first spot of rain.' 'Nuff said ? What has happened to the Co-Op Bank ? Didn't they have a similar idea as Dave's ?
The problems at the Co-op bank were primarily to do with the merger they did with Brittania, Co-op inherited Brittanias loan book (subprime, and commercial property). Thats where things went wrong. The guy who was running Co-op bank was highly incompetent. Very, Very different from what Mr Fishwick is doing.
Dave is a good man. He's got a heart for the people. I love his attitude and I am doing the same but in a small way. I would love to open a branch in Staines
They make it so hard, because they do not want you to be in the know. If the people of Burnley could withdraw all their funds from the other banks and put it in yours then we may have a chance. A building society would have been a better one to go for first.
Does banking there work like here in America? Anyone? Because, here they do not loan out depositors money. They loan out "book keeping entries". That is, the money does not exist until they loan it out. Just made up money. If you want to see it in their own manual look online for a little book called "Modern Money Mechanics".
