Played a ton of this , but sadly the replay value now is rough... bfbc2 also loved it when it was out but the lack of movement now with no left to right strafe and no prone its rough to play . BF3 is the greatest FPS of all time

@@iautonomos no way. As good as battlefield 2 was the engine was shockingly unstable, you're fps would tank halfway through a game due to map issues.
Pretty much happened with BF3’s Strike at Karkand expansion! BF4’s Dragon Valley was great too
PR is so good that it became a game itself, Squad. Still updated and with more features them Squad, I used to play unitl last year, and no longer play squad.
This is the game I always tell casuals to look at when they tell me Battlefield was always a meme.
Current gen Battlefield just isn't Battlefield, it's CoD with vehicles
Yes cause fast paced equals cod, it cant be more different than cod.
And, sons and daughters, that's why COD started to add vehicles in their multiplayer.

Battlefield 2 had everything. Good classes, good vehicles, fun tools, and commander mode. The maps were pretty great and the expansions were alright. I was almost always the commander. Even the progression was good.
On god Bf2 and bad company 2 gives me a melancholic feeling. Good times dude.

I hope they will make a remake of BF2.
I was 15 when BF2 came out. Ranking up in this game was something special. And damn did i play this A LOT!

Ranking up was actually difficult. The companies didn't care about people abandoning the game because it was 'too hard' which would lead them to lose money. These old games were made with heart, and an expression of the creativity of a great team of creators.. Todays games are just garbage made from money milking, greedy franchices who only care about having a name regardless of what their games are like.
I think the biggest thing for me was that people actually played squads the way they were intended. None of the classes were overpowered, so it was commonplace for people to balance squads with with support, sniper, assault, and one or two medics. And they worked together rather than just using it to respawn on teammates. Squad leaders would set objectives and the squads would actually go to them. One of my favorite memories to that end was the time a guy on my squad hovered in a helicopter above an area for ten minutes or more so that the rest of us could keep fighting below. Probably wasn't much fun for him, but it allowed the squad to stay together. Or the way medics would forgo fighting at the Karkand train to keep teammates alive. If you requested help, somebody would help you. The cooperative element was utilized by players in a way that just doesn't happen in the newer games.
That and the map design. Huge maps, maybe not as huge as the newer ones, but they didn't funnel you to a few locations or have bottlenecks that forced fights in the same places over and over again. You could run into an enemy squad in an empty field and within minutes a few dozen people would be there fighting over literally nothing a mile away from the flags. Hell, most of the servers are one map over and over again. Karkand 24/7.
Plus small hitboxes and very limited ammo made all the combat more calculated. Probably the pinnacle of online fps games for me. Only issue was the lag.
They got the aircraft right for me, you had to breakoff to repair and re-arm at the airfield or carrier, no mid air repair.
I like the choppers in RS2 for this reason, glass cannons
yep I remember trying to maneuver a good fly by to repair and rearm, in BF5 it's waaayyyyy easier
BF2 = fun + mods = PR, forgotten hope, ETC = more fun = whole summer
Theres also gaza map which is fun tho people didnt vote that map since you know...

Dude for a few minutes straight there was practically DYING of nostalgia. This game was a huge part of my childhood and after all these years I still haven't forgotten the kind of fun hilarity this game put in my life. I still remember a good few of the maps (well my favorite parts at least) YEARS later!
I used to do this extremely fun challenge where I think it was either just me, or basically just me, against the entire other army. I'd just guard a specific area and BOY was I really freakin good. Pretty sure this was my first actual FPS game, and I also realize it's in one of my absolute all time favorite genres that I've been starved of most of my life. Like mordhau, chivalry 2, you know, 64 vs 64 kinds of games, is something I'm mega interested in, but somehow managed to not have like any of them for so long, always knowing something was missing from my life.
Don't sweat it man it was a huge part of my childhood as well, No Battlefield and a lot of of other games can come close to the BF2 experience, it's something you and I can treasure till the end of time

You should totally make a full video on project reality sometime, it honestly deserves its own video aside from battlefield 2 since it's so different. Hit me up if you need a clan or something to teach you the ropes. As a PR player it's always nice to see content creators still talking about PR to bolster the community

If you do decide to make a full video on Project Reality, and wish to showcase an older version as well, i have PR 0.5 that I still seldom play in COOP with a couple of buddies, so i can upload the mod files somewhere. It had the best balance between realism and fun IMO.
I think PR is beautiful, amazing... but unplayable because too complicated. I never had any luck playing on a full server of competent players. THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE and I would love to be proven wrong

My situation was the exact same:
I sat next to my dad and watched him play. he had graphics on low so bushes wouldnt render past a certain distance so he had an advantage when sniping. He would also use the arrow keys to move and rebound all actions to keys on the right side of the keyboard.
He let me play from time to time when I was only 6. been a Battlefield guy for 16 years now.
Haha me too, except my dad went balls out and bought a PC that was off its tits haha I was lucky enough to have max graphics an still be pumping out 150-300 fps. But still to this day nothing has had me in awe quite like watching my old man play this game for the first time, specially because he was online in a squad where they were actually working together and using mics, it totally blow my mind. Haha good time.
You forgot Forgotten hope 2 its realy TOP beside project reality you must take a look at it.

Actually Battlefield 2 and PR are better in the gameplay and the engine too and i can say that its my childhood game too
I remember 2005, being hyped for BF2 and COD2.. looking back it’s funny realizing it was probably the golden age of FPS games.

BF2 was First BF i played and i still have the Original Complete Collection and i absolutly loved BF2 !
BF2 and Bad Co 2 give me the big rubbery one. I have full on range cards from BC2 for sniping that I framed when I rediscovered them.
bf2hub allows to play battlefield 2 online in 2021 and after. Only needs patches and the bf2hub program installed. But the bots in the game suck like always has been

The guns were much better as you missed more than you hit.. just like in the real world. Still play this today (Under the flag of forgotten Hope 2)

The thing about Battlefield 2 is it all depended on the people you were playing with. If you had a good, honest, cohesive team, it was amazing. If you had a team full of smacktards, it was hell.
Still my fav Battlefield game of all time. This is why I bought my first PC

Battlefield 2 was my childhood as well. Ofc the game has its flaws and if it was released today people would be so mad at the hit registration, grenade spam, baser***ing etc. But its still fun to jump in at times and have some casual fun in the game.

For me the reasons it was so great were:
- The VOIP talking to your squads, the clans. I had times I almost died laughing. Some people were hilarious.
- The right balance between realism and simplicity. I tried to play Project reality, but it is too complicated and you can never get a full load of competent players (that's my experience)
So I am sticking to my guns: BF2 was the best.

I was playing Counter Strike for years and I wouldn't play any other first person shooting game at all. BF2 changed all that for me. Till this day, I still prefer Battlefield over any of the Call of Duty series.
Battefield > Call of Duty, but COD has some good campaigns ngl

This is TO DATE the best battlefield game ever made. It’s not only a FPS but equally a strategy game. Full squads with each having their own mission on the battlefield, a commander leading the battle and supporting squads and setting tasks in game. The maps was just perfect and the teamwork on some servers was just beyond!!! I’m on bf 5 now and it stands no chance. Bf2 is just on another level, and unfortunately DICE lost their identity somewhere in the process of making these new games. I’d like to see a battlefield game where strategy and cooperation is key to win the battle. Not some COD or CS paced 128 player maps going bezerk in every corner.

Yeah the commander feature and the ability for squad leaders to put down icons and orders on the map was awesome. A shame they ditched it in the newer battlefields.
The way that vehicles works with Ammo thats powerfull but you need to get reloaded is and was awesome!!!

@@Tantwo I just really hate that today if people get killed by a Tank by 1 shot or one bomb or rocket from a jet its OP. Really?? Its a freaking BOMB in your face. They dont have to hit you. I remember being a in a F-18 on Wake. Killing Tons with that thing. But after every bomb run i had to leave the battlefield and get ammo. It was balanced and took more skil. Because when i came back. They would be ready with AA. The bastards :P

I don't think anyone who ever played BF2 thinks bad company was a better game. For me Bad Company was a disappointment, still had fun with it, but it lacked a lot of features the previous games had. If bf2 gets remastered with all the expansions and the same features without any other bullshit then it would be the best FPS we ever had in a long time.
Holy shit the arrow key controls haha! I remember back in the day being a 6 year old not understanding ergonomics and I did the same thing. I remember whenever I would have to jump I would have to pull my hand off the mouse and cross my arms to press the spacebar. God damn what I would give just to be there in those moments again

EA doesn't resurrect BF2 because if they did, half of the actual sales of the saga wouldn't be sold, a lot of people would be stuck to this.

This is how a good game is made when it's made by people who make games for their enjoyment and not to see how much money they can make
The best part was mods. Project Reality, Forgotten Hope 2 (still played!), Point of Existence 2, Operation Peacekeeper, to just name few of them. So many great mods with new factions, weapons, vehicles and content.
I still play this game every week. There’s many mods to play

Yeah battlefield 2 was definitely my all time favorite. I played that game for hundreds of hours throughout high-school just bot-matches as we only had shitty satellite internet in the late 2000s but I still had so much fun just playing against the AI in this game.
I was in the exact same boat lol, I dabbled with a lot of mods especially AIX
Always my favorite game of the series. I recall some of these funs :
1. Commander could kill enemy by dropping a supply crate/buggy above an unaware stationary enemy
2. When i capture an enemy base/ flag as an engineer, usually i put an anti-tank mine under my parked tank/AFV as an anti-theft measure by the enemy. It was so hilarious when an enemy rushed to defend their base jumped on the nearby unoccupied tank/AFV then they went boom
3. Hiding in the bushes (esp. As scout/sniper) was so much fun since cheaters with wallhack/position locators were virtually non-existant as compared with today
4. The jihad jeep (ramming an explosive-laden C4 buggy into an enemy's tank/APC) was so much fun
You can replicate point 3 and 4 in Squad nowadays, it's not exactly like Battlefield 2 but it is the closest shooter i've played to that game recently.
BF2 will always be the best it's sad what this series has become.

I am still playing this online. Always at least 30 servers serving. I still play it every night. BF2 forever. I don't like the newer versions of Battlefield, mainly because there is to much going on. BF2 is like a car without all of the pollution crap on it.

If you like playing BF2, you must play Project Reality. because in the mod it has everything. Vietnam war? ww2?, is in that 1 mod and the server is still active and full of players. the gameplay is like "squad" but more fun

Modern BF games completely lack the charm of the original games, they then found something different with Bad Company. That still worked, BC2 in particular was a great game but the series now is soulless and boring.

I used to play Battlefield 1942, Vietnam, 2 and 2142 when i was a kid but my fondest memory of these games came with the Revive servers back in 2016. I will never forgive EA for shutting those servers down.

Feel free to join us on the multiplayer servers for the ultimate nostalgia of ever-present radio spam! There are almost always some full servers like 2F4Y. In addition, servers running special forces expansion and various mods are (mostly) populated during the weekends.
Speaking for mods, Lost Soldiers are frequently organising events with mods like Pirates 2, Battleracer or Arctic warfare.

BF2 greatest game ever made. Now it's full of cheaters and aimbot players. Servers are very few but the ones that are the best are soldiers only. Great fun on those servers. What surprises me is so many say they miss this game but don't register again.

I use it when very angry or received a DIY injury but in general conversation not a chance.

This game defined my mid teen years. It blew my mind, there was nothing like it at the time. Watching this video was such a nostalgia rush! I wonder if my old cd key works on origin...

I feel like a hollywood action star in codfield3 and later games.
Slower, planned, tactical pace simply makes this a better game.
I cant stand a minute of bullets flying everywhere and people running, small maps of bf3 and later entries.

yep, there are plenty of people dedicated to keeping the game alive, primarily in USA and Europe

As special forces you had a job. Sneak into enemy territory and blow up the enemy uav and artillery and kill the enemy commander. As anti tank you had a job. Blow up enemy armour. As support you had a job. Lay down covering fire and keep people supplied with ammo. As a sniper you had a job. Sniping and laying claymores on flags. As assault you had a job. Lay down smoke and use grenade launcher to rain grenades. As medic you had a job: Healing and reviving. As Engineer you had a job. Repairing vehicles and laying mines. As squad leader you had a job. Focus your squads efforts on certain objectives and be a spawn point for them. As commander you had the most important job: Ordering squad leaders, giving uav support, laying down artillery, giving transports to lone soldiers travelling. Giving supply drops to tankers and other units. These new games smushed all the classes together and you are just a jack of all trades. It is boring.
Good times. Battlefield 2, Warcraft 3, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Crash bandicoot, Need for speed Most Wanted was my shit as a kid. One day, I'll buy a ps2 and get all the games and feel like a kid again
Project Reality has a huge amount of maps, vehicles and weapons. It is a BF2 milsin, which is the perfect balance. It'll soon reach 20 years of development and the amount of content is hardly comparable by anything Else. Some players claim PR is the best game ever made and i can see why. I've played It on and off for the last 10 years and not once did i get bored
Then BF 2042 Beta arrived and we realized it is the spawn of COD and Apex. I miss BF2.

Back then i played the shit out of vanilla bf2 since the age of 11, now 16 still playing it with mods.
its just a good all out war experience, runs good on toasters, the bots, its perfect.
Hell if i were given a choice to play only one game for the rest of my life that would be BF2.
That memory of me putting landmines on my team's airfield will live in my head rent free.
As you did, I watched my dad play this game when I was a kid, my dad would sometimes let me play it when my mom wasn't closeby haha. I have so precious memories from this game and BF2142.

Lol I remember a glitch on one of the maps with a helicopter you could do where it would put you inside a building and you could shoot out but no one could see in or shoot you. People would get pissed!! I’d have like 26 kills 0 deaths lmao
The servers who got butthurt about players doing daring, cool stuff like infiltrating the carrier ships as an anti-tank and blowing up planes as they were about to take off and banned the practice made the game worse in its later years though.
