I'm from New Zealand and the Peter Theil situation was pretty shocking and still is. The dude basically bribed his way into the country while promising investment and goodwill, which never really eventuated. He made our government look like a bunch of gullible fools.

I live 5 hours away from Queenstown and Wanaka. They've taken over some of the best places to visit in the country. Their vibe actually ruins a place. The price to live there is so overwhelmingly out of reach for regular people, even the locals can't afford to live there anymore and they've lived there their entire lives. Most of the Billionaires don't live there full time.
As an Australian, I was told by a super rich that the reason why New Zealand is so attractive to billionaires around the world is because New Zealand is too small and insignificant for any other country to care about or even invade if there's a world war. Also, if getting a New Zealand passport is too hard, you can always get an Australian passport, Australia and New Zealand have a special pact when it comes to citizenship, Australians can: travel, live, work, buy properties, get treated like a New Zealand citizen and vice versa. eg: New Zealand recently banned foreigners from buying properties in New Zealand unless you're an Australian citizen, also you won't get deported back to Australia if you commit a crime in New Zealand.

They went into approve residence visa mode over a year ago to prop up the economy lots of ways to play the game. Getting a visa is easy at the moment.

As a kiwi the requirements to get in seem to be 1 lack of skills required by the country 2 poor grasp of the english language 3 total lack of interest in adapting to our society.
The problem that you forgot to mention is water. Only a very small amount of surface water is drinkable and the percentage is 0.5%. It doesn't matter how much food you have, you are just as screwed if you have no drinking water.
Nz is abundant in clean water lakes rivers streams springs and rain all pure in nz.. maybe not in Auckland but 100% outside of Auckland

I'm not an expert. Usually isolated places who can be more or less self sustainable. I think that Alaska, northern Canada, Iceland, Australia, Chile, Argentina, Greenland islands in the southern hemisphere, or up in the Hymalayas, are all good to ok locations to move if an apocalyptic event happens.

NZ isn't self sufficient in food. Very little of the land can grow anything more than grass. They can trade their livestock products for commodities like wheat but that isn't going to work in a post apocalyptic world. Also the intensification of grass farming has led to serious nitrate pollution of the water supply.
Umm, not so. Plenty of varied crops can grow as nz is a temperate climate. Theres more food grown than we eat so alot is wasted currently. We produce enough now to feed 40million yet our population is only 5million.
