- Victoria de los Angeles the world famous operatic and lieder lyric soprano was born in Barcelona 1923, and died Barcelona 2005.
Here she is singing at the Barcelona Liceu Fire Benefit Gala, held in the Palau Sant Jord,Barcelona,1994 accompanied by the famous Cellist Lluis Claret.
Near the 1992 Barcelona Olympic site.
Many famous world singers sang at this concert, voluntarily, in aid of the rebuilding costs of the Barcelona Opera House destroyed by fire in January 1994.
The Liceu was the second largest in Europe,the Palais Garnier, National de l'Opéra de París being the largest.
Fire caused almost total destruction of Barcelona's great Opera House.
The sense of loss in Barcelona,Catalonia, and Spain was shared by many worldwide.
Thankfully the Liceu is now rebuilt to it's former grandeur.
Victoria sings the popular El cant dels ocells,Song of the Birds.
There is a Foundation Victoria de los Angeles based in Barcelona, and has photos,discography and an on-line store.

Victoria de los Angeles had a very sound basic vocal technique learnt as a student in the Barcelona Conservatory. Her singing informally with the Ars Musicae Group most evenings gave Victoria a good solid foundation to all things musical. She stepped out on to the international stage in 1949/1950 [London and New York] following many years singing in a modest way in Spain. Thankyou for commenting.

Claret plays beautifully. He really listens to Victoria! This is 50 years after her first solo recital in Barcelona. What a treasure she was. Always consistent in voice and artistry. The second half of the twentieth century had many fine sopranos. But in retrospect, Victoria was the one who represented all that was great and carried the torch for all of them.
So beautiful voice, so beautiful performance. It touches the soul. The grand olympic stadium filled with thousands of spectators, the beautiful ambiance all in harmony while this great soprano is singing. This is immortal performance. Her face is like an angel, her voice is heavenly and even her dress gives her a mythical look like a singing phoenix whose sounds brings healing. Bravissima Maestra Victoria de los Angeles. Adios!!!

El cant dels Ocells,una canción medieval catalana que el gran Maestro Pau Cassals actualizó.Dicen que cuando murió su gran amigo el gran poeta Manuel Machado,al terminar El Cant dels Ocells fue solo a su tumba y le dedicó esta magnífica canción.Muchas la han intepretado muy bien,pocos tan bien como Victoria de los Ángeles,una gran soprano,injustamente reconocida en España.Su magnifico El cant dels ocells con el gran violochentista Clarety la orquesta del Liceu es todo un placer.

Victoria de los Angeles is also my favourite soprano. I was fortunate to see and hear her three times in recitals and concerts. Wonderful. Some of my video uploads are of Victoria de los Angeles. Enjoy.
