Enjoy a story from 2012, now with subtitles 👍
Hi,
Does it work automatically? This tool is totally useful
@@sendulsky It's a bit of software that generates transcripts and puts them on the screen, but I have to proofread the transcripts because there are usually lots of errors.
@@LukesEnglishPodcast thank you.
Luke, this has been very useful for shadowing-pronunciation practice, this is just awesome. Hopefully the tool is easy to use, so you can make it available for your entire podcast.
8 years later, I still remember most of the story. Cheers :)
useful ? Yes it is... hope I can pass my Ilets
The moment he talk about his girlfriend and how much he appreciate her work was lovely 🥺💗 39:32
A disease is not my favourite topic to be listening in a podcast but you did it wonderfully. I couldn't stop myself from listening to it. I had a similar experience while living in Israel, to have the kibbutz experience and I fell sick. You feel lost, alone, depressed, terrible. If you go to live for a long period in a different country you definitely should consider the possibility of being ill and what to do about it. Good job, Luke. Thank you.
Thought I would dip into this story to see why you were hospitalised, and ended up listening to the end of your story. i really enjoyed it.
I listened this podcast while jogging, but I did know that this one has subtitle. I love listening the story. Thank you so much, Luke.
Wow! LUKE! This was an mazing idea to add subtitles 💡 I am so glad, prefer to listen you on YT since now rather than Spotify 😁 Best Regards from Manchester 😊
I appreciate the effort and time you put into preparing the subtitles!!! You are in my head!
I have started listening to Luke's English podcast from episode 1, and now I'm here. As I'm going through this process, I've realized that the great thing about your podcast is that it's incredibly entertaining, even when the episodes were made years ago.
However, this episode is different. All the struggles and difficulties you had out there... I'm sure it was horrible. Thank goodness you had people there to take care of you.
And I hope that the bad doctor you mentioned at first will get (had gotten) what he deserves
I’ve listened to this podcast several times and still find it interesting and mesmerizing.Luke is definitely one of the best teachers on UA-cam.l hope more people will find your channel and learn something useful from you. Thanks for your hard work.
This format with suppoting bold text is SO, SO HELPFUL to follow, learn and enjoy the story.
Can we have more of this.
I like your story much, it is simple and meaningful. Also thank you for spending much time on generating that useful subtitles for us.
Perfect with subtitles i am ipnotised to see the screan. Best way to understand. Thanks a lot this is my favorite version
Dear Luke, thank you so very much for uploading this! I paused to write this thank you comment. Your story is so brilliantly told. I think I could feel the characters involved. You are my number one English teacher on YT. Again, thank you for your amazing channel and all the great work you do here. Take care, my friend. Stay healthy and keep shining 🤗🤗🤗👍👍👍
This real narrative story felt me sad, but you it really helps me to learn a lot, thank you luke.
Luke, hello! Thank you so much for this life story! I'm really glad that everything ended successfully. Such events really give us many tips for our future. I also had an experience of living in a foreign country in 2004. The USA.. I went there on the program "work and travel" being a student at those times. That was an awesome experience for me! That was a real school of surviving among new people, new surroundings, new circumstances, new culture. So much to remember....
Thank you for sharing! I hope, your health is better now. Good tips also.
Take care!
Hi Oksana
I'm looking for a speaking partner to practice and improve my English speaking
I wonder if you are interested in?
I'm a Chinese who lived in the UK since 2001. Your description of hot, humid summer including the fire-ice shifts and "mosquito feast" felt like out of my own head, except it was in Beijing. 🤣 The 10 points you drew from this unforgettable experience are absolutely amazing, especially about learning from the local to deal in a new environment. Learning languages is the most effective way to communicate with the local people to understand the cultural, to take life tips and to enjoy friendship.
Thank you for sharing your incredible experience of 2 weeks in Japanese clinics and hospital. I held my breath when the first doctor showed less interest in treating you and laughed when you enjoyed your king-like hospitality after your parents reassured you with their discovery. Hooray to the backstage heroes --- mum and dad! 😍
You are a brilliant English teacher! Thank you and take care.
Hi. I hope you are well with your relative's Teacher Luke. I appreciated. I left my Country when I was twenty-seven years old. I went to Portugal for work. I had to learn to cook because I was on my own. I had to cook for myself, watch my clothes, and to do some shops.Today I have to say that this experience helped me grow as men and learn plenty of things. I am sure the teacher learnt a lot with this experience in Japan. Because at the and of the lesson you gave us some advice for instance, when we leave our Country and we go to another, you said that we have to try to learn the local language, and live as a local people live. It's true, because, sometimes I felt alone, but afterwards, I met some friends and we used to hang out a bit. Good story in Japan I liked it. We must treat everyone as we would like to be treated. That is the point. Teacher Luke afterwards end up in the hospital. Guess who did you find? Your former student, it seems coincidence ironically saying. But it happens. I have never been in abroad, teaching, but I would like to. Thank you, teacher.😅😆😁.
This story is quite interesting and has very detailed descriptions. Thanks for sharing.
Never get bored. Every single word n sentence u speak. Luv it. Thanks always:)
It is a great story, and the way you told it is even fantastic. Thank you, Luke. You are my favourite teacher. And I'm happy you are ok now.
Thanks, Luke. You're such a good narrator :)
Hi! I've enjoyed listening to your story so much as a citizen living in the same prefecture where you used to be. I feel you.
I fully understand what you've been through, Luke. This week I got a tonsil so swollen that even if I opened my mouth wide enough, I couldn't see it. The infection spread to my teeth and ear. I was terribly thirsty but couldn't drink because the pain was unbearable when swallowing. It was a nightmare. I had to sip through a straw, drop by drop. At home it's hot because there's no air conditioning, just a fan. It's 30 degrees outside and inside. I could only eat ripe apricots, and even then it felt like a mosquito sucking from them, as painful as it was. I got dehydrated from the temperature and the heat. For my throat, I gargled with chlorhexidine mouthwash. I could have a little ice cream for the inflammation, and besides antibiotics, if necessary, I also took diclofenac for the inflammation. Interestingly, it was only one tonsil, I couldn't even talk. It's good that it was only one, because if it were both, I wouldn't have been able to drink water and probably would have ended up in the hospital. But you're right about the antiseptic, it's a big pain.
Wow, sounds horrendous!
Dear Luke, I've listened to at least 300 episodes of your podcast but this one resonates with me the most! I got rid off my tonsil when I was 16, and no more those AWFUL FEVER though i still have them from time to time but not as bad.
And the in-video transcript? It is awesome!
Thanks for sharing your experience living in Japan. I really liked this episode and enjoy listening to the podcast and subjects you create.
Hi really very good and long story, I love it very much! Thanks Luke.
Your description of your time working in Japan is wonderful and fascinating👍thank you ❤
I love this episode because it is just like a nice English friend chatting with me about his fun experience💗
Omg... Poor Luke, such a brilliant story.
I‘m a mother of a 26 year old son, he lives on his own for 3,5 years now and what you were describing about a healthy diet and drinking lots of alcohol was exactly what I have been thinking about since my son moved out... 🥳💃🕺🏽🍻🍾🥂... well, sometimes things have to happen to grow up 🙏... thank god everything turned out well. Liked your story 👍🏻
What a story Luke! I an glad everything went fine.
I completed listening all the episode , a little long but enjoyable, it’s so difficult for a foreigner living abroad without basic local language skill at the beginning. When I moved to Singapore with my little son from China 5 years ago , I was also very stressed at that time, even went to supermarket for groceries, always made mistakes... but after 1 year, we get used to live here, and made some friends, finally found a sense of belonging. Thanks Luke, you are really a fantastic teacher, I love all the way you teaching 👍😍
It is really interesting to listen this. Thanks you very much 😊❤
Hello, Luke! It's an amazing life story. I listen to this episode (audio version) every single day. It's alive and natural, useful and informal, educational, I love it. Thanks for being with us and creating this kind of wonderful videos. I love so much story about travelling to India. It's really interesting story. A few years passed, but no real stories. I am looking forward to seeing You with new stories on UA-cam. Cheers mate!
I live in Taiwan and can't endure humid Summer as well. I don't like air conditioner, but, still use that at night just after showering and turn it off before I go to bed. We do have something covering body while sleeping, especially umbilicus, the most fragile part of body.
Thanks for your video. Short story series help me lot.
Thanks a lot teacher ! I travel a lot and it's nice to hear you ! Yesss we have to enjoy our life.
I enjoy this session as I always do when I tune into your podcast, thank you . It's obvious that your Japanese hospital experience is an experience you will never forget, isn't it?
I can’t remember.
Just kidding :) You’re right. I’ll never forget it. It changed my life.
Thanks for sharing the story with subtitles. I live in Japan. Yes, it's extremely hot here, so we can't survive without air condition. But now, it dropped to -3 degrees.... I'm happy to hear that you've recovered from illness.
Hi dear fellow lepsters, would like to have a chat on skype so as to improve my English
Is it really that hot 👽 I'm wondering if it like Middle East in the Summer !
I enjoyed this story very much Luke, thank you for sharing your experience! I also went to France for a year and I got a skin disease due to the fact that the type of the water was different there apparently, my entire body was so freaking itchy. Getting some illnesses in foreign country is never gonna be easy lol
It's good experience
Every now and then I enjoy listening to you Luke
Love this subtitles video!!!! I can practice speaking reading and listening, thank you Luke!!!!!

This is the first episode I listened to on your channel. I enjoyed it very much! I am a Japanese woman. I have loved learning English for decades since I was a school girl. I am interested in cultural differences between countries. I hope you have a lot of good memories about Japan.
Grazie mille, Luke! Anche questo episodio è stato bello e sicuramente utile, allo stesso tempo. Sono a Taranto, in Italia meridionale, con 29° alle 21:11... Grazie ancora!

Hi luke, it’s much long episode but it’s so benefit . You are talented in telling story.
Hi Luke. The test video is a very good idea. Thank you
Thank you so much. Great work. Your story really help to improve my English. Im glad to find your channel. Greetings from Ukraine.
Hi Luke,
Thank you.
Thank you for sharing to me this video helping me to improve reading and listening at once!!!
While I was hearing I was on the edge of my seat because it was really heat touching by and large fantastic to me.
This one was a great story Luke. As a doctor Sometimes our behaviours lead patients to think that the doctor is not paying enough attention. It happens all the time. It was a good example for doctors as well.
May I kindly demand a podcast related to medical terms a bit apart from this one?
Hello there Luke! I follow your vlogs so many years by now! I am a brazilian living in Japan for these last 2 and a half years. I'm not completely surprised with some of your experiences here in Japan and the sumertime is really hot like that you described! I arrived here in mid september 2019 and fortunately faced only some 2 or 3 weeks of exagerated heat! In order you can understand I come from the southerm Brazil where the climate is temperate with 32°C degrees top in the summer and -3°C in the top of the Winter season!
Here in Japan I've learnt from my friends to use some vest with fans in order to efficiently cool my body on hanging around the streets in Japan! It really works properly and efficiently! But I had some bad time with the extreme heat aswell when it was closely to 40°C degrees!
Most of the time the japanese folk have their own way to deal with things differently from the westerners and I realized that by now! I'm not a japanese descendent like my wife and don't speak the language but I'll make an effort in the closely future to study. Said that I have to share my experience here with doctors was exactly like yours! But I'm the only one to blame 'cos I still don't speak japanese!
All we need is really to hold a very positive mental attitude towards the diferences between the cultures and enjoy every moment of it!
By the way I lived very close to Tokyo and now I'm living in Yamanashi Prefecture very close to the iconic Fujiyama!
I've been in Ukraine for only two months after a year of learning Russian (as it was a Russian speaking part of the country) and I broke my arm there. Luckily, I'd got to know a nurse there so she directed me to the hospital she worked at and took good care of me too. As a reminder from this story I've got a picture of my arm with description in Russian :)
I am glad to meet here sombody who has been in my country. I hope doctors in Ukraine were kind with you)))
@@user-be6ge4xg1n yes, they were :)
Thank you Luke! Good idea the subtitle.
Hi, Luke! It was very cognitive story. It is very interesting and useful experiense. I've also spent one year apart from home when I was a student. But I was lucky guy, because unlike you I've got to Scotland. Thank you very much for your podcast!
This story is marvellous explained by speaker with the subtitle.
Thanks for your sharing story to us
Culture shock is certain when entering a very different country . As aforementioned climate problem, true , We can't ignorr it for our own safety. Many years ago , I had backpacked there in Nagoya and I was alone and also go sick some day , I couldn't get any help but try my poor Japanese to communicate with the hostel keeper. Unfortunately, she wasn't nice and she kicked me out of my Tatami room in such early morning with coldness. Perhaps I realized that I was a lone ,. I had to help myself. Fortunately, I survived myself. Traveling is not always a blessing. Dear Teacher Luke , take care. Sharing your unusual experience in Japan.
I enjoyed your story of your Japanese experience and at the same time, I missed lots of foreign people who had spent their precious time in Kyoto.
Now they've gone to their own countries after the Covid‐19.
I miss their friendliness a lot.
I hope you will have another chance to travel to Yokohama with more Japanese language skill😉.
Tank you fór your story and your experince
I really enjoy listening and reading at once, what an amazing idea!!!!! 👏
Thanks for sharing the story,
Luke, what a pleasure to listen to you! Have you ever thought of writing a book?
great video about japan, i'm still learning english, but i really liked it.
fantastic👌 With subtitles 👍 moreover professionally written 👊
Such a lovely story, an experience living in tropical country
I’m sure teaching English in Japan must’ve been quite tough given our English skills and cultural differences.
By the way, I’m 24 years old and living in Japan. I studied abroad in Liverpool(only 2 months) and will start to live in the UK this year for the first time. I feel this story is very relatable to me. Now I’m excited to live in the UK, but when the time comes, I may feel nervous.
Hey wanna connect with me on Skype
thank you luke !
Wow,I fully understood your situation because I had a similar experience when I worked in a foreign country. A strange bitter sweet feeling
Thanks Luke for your sharing and teaching English naturely
It was a very intense and interesting story.
Luke, you are the best!
Yeah keep up the good work 😀
If you let me, I want to tell you, that you are a good teacher!!!!
Luke , thank you 😊
Best channel in the UA-cam
Loooooove this channel !
I love your stories. You could be a future writer. Lol
Thank you for sharing your experience.
Mama chari! That was the funniest part of the story.
I think I have the opposite experience. I am Japanese and got married to a British. Yes, the summer in Japan is terribly hot so I prefer the English summer. But strangely I'd really wanted to feel hot and sweat when I lived in north England where was kinda (too) cool in summer😆 Now I feel happy when the sun comes out like British people.
Thanks for telling uss your story
Very Interesting.
I was born in cold place but in my country have also hot weather in south and I have lived there.
I agree with you to be nice and gentle with people as much as possible
Because that gives uss pleasure also.
Not only because one day you will get what you have given in life.
I wish you good health and long successful life. 🤞
Hope you get well very soon! Add oil to you! Cheer up!💪💪💪
Thanks for the subttitles!!!!
This episode is so coooool
You are awesome, dude!
Thank you!!!

I live in Tsujido! I was wondering which bar you frequented...
Stone Bar
Thank you so much
Thank you! It was very interesting. Kind of karma thing... I like this (like)new channel, keep on doing it please
What a good story!!!!
Oh this is superb.. it gimme tons of vocabularies 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I also got in trouble a few years ago in China. But I was lucky. Coz God knows how I’ve got free check up in a local international clinic, which is really cool. So I felt fine, but a bit tired maybe. In that moment I thought it was just jet lag or something like that. The south climate was totally different for me (I’m from Siberia). So a doctor could diagnosed a serious disease. It was horrible, they were speaking Chinese and I could understand only one word: Bad. It made me stressed, I was in panic. But luckily the doctor helped me quickly. And now I just need to keep it under control. 😊
It was great experience in japan. Subtitle really help me
Sick in Japan, who wants to be sick in Japan... Lots of people report that Health service in Japan it's difficult especially for women... thanks a lot!
Hello, I was an irregular listener but i’d like to be a regular listener from now on
is “different to” more common than “ different from “? in British English? I’ve enjoyed it so much
Thank you and stay healthy:)
Both are common in British English.
