After seeing your video about the Cleopatra book and now this one, I've concluded these Ladybird books are quite charming. As far as I can tell, they never became a thing here in the US, and that is a shame. They seem to have covered a wide variety of important historical topics and were just long enough to give a good overview.
@@LibraryofWhispersASMR I did a little more research on them after I found your video on the Cleopatra book. I really feel like we need books like this today to exist and to be popular, especially with younger people (though I think adults could also learn a lot from them and I would be happy to read them as an adult). I went onto eBay and found a number of sellers selling stacks of them, but they are all in the UK and the shipping from the UK is no joke.
this book is great.. its awesome how they take a lot of complicated ideas and just communicate it in the simplest way possible... sure we could mull over the petabytes of flight test information and who says that wouldnt be interesting, but its nice to just get the straight dope on what what down...
Wow! Almost 3 hours of reading! I am so happy. Your videos of just reading are what I come to your channel for. Unfortunately, some of your latest readngs have been grim subjects and I am trying to focus on more positive subjects these days because of pandemic-emotional-burnout. I saw the word "doomsday" in the title of a recent video and said, "Nope." I'm a big fan of horror movies and spooky tales (just read a collection of stories inspired by Shirley Jackson's writings; among other great scary stories, she wrote The Haunting of Hill House). But when it's time to go to sleep these days, I try to steer away from anything with the words "death," "doom," "plague", etc. So, I'm glad to see a more neutral topic AND I love the Ladybird books! BTW, I've also enjoyed your videos of the seaside. (P.S. I recently tried to send you a wonderful book I thought you'd enjoy if you haven't already read it, and I thought you might like to read from it to your subscribers, but was shocked and amazed when I found out it would cost $67 to ship it to you (from the U.S.) The book, itself, was $25 so it would have been ridiculous to pay more than twice that to ship it. And the U.S. Postal Service didn't offer any less expensive way to send it. So, in future, I will just contribute to your Patreon so you can use the funds anyway that you'd like. The book, by the way, is Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norell by Susanna Clarke, an amazing writer. I thought it was so expensive to mail because it's over 1,000 pages and weighs close to one pound, but the postal clerk said the charge had nothing to do with weight. So that's a mystery to me!) www.amazon.com/Jonathan-Strange-Mr-Norrell-Novel/dp/0765356155
Don't panic! The Domesday Book was just a 'great survey' of all the land and possessions of people in the eleventh century. Oh, and thank you for thinking of me re: the book. Yes shipping costs are outrageous!

They were very popular here in the UK when I was a child.

@@sorenpx It's true. Shipping internationally is so expensive these days.
This is great! Thank you
Kate if you worked in my local library 📚 I’d be getting books out all the time 😊
Oeh I’m so excited about all the videos you make! You’re doing so well👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much 🤗
I like the longer videos, about science, history and facts. So this is perfect!
I love this! Most of the videos I find similar to this are soft spoken and I don’t find that relaxing but yours is just phenomenal
I just found your channel. I'm really enjoying it. Thanks!
Welcome!
I love space and I love your videos!❤️
Thank you!
Feeling stressed out with university at the moment so this is exactly what I need!
