This system used to work. I bought my houses at min price because there was always 15+ empty lots in gauntlet on my server at all times. That was of course on a small server before the game was popular, its pretty pointless these days for sure.
That’s believable provided you don’t live in a major city in a crowded state like New Jersey. Houses in the US can be really cheap if you’re far away from major population centers, more so if you live in fly-over country.
so i admin a ffxiv housing discord that just relays out open plot notifications. some thoughts - its not mentioned in the video, but theres a weird trend the housing community has noticed where these vacant plots tend to sell after 10-14 real life hours of being vacated by literally any means (being auto-demo'd, being relocated out of, being relinquished). we call this "prime time". - we dont know why the 10-14hr mark exists. square enix doesnt say anything about this. yes there is actual data and research people have put into this shit proving that this is real. the reason you see people resorting to macros is because these plots literally wont sell (usually) for at least half a god damn day. its terrible, but its why we suggest people wait to this mark to camp. - botting is a huge problem. botting paranoia is also a huge problem. people will literally stalk other players down after they win at a placard attempting to prove that they're a bot. this includes pulling up lodestone, finding alts, following their activity ingame, etc. its bad and the anger of losing at a placard makes it worse. - yes people will literally pay gilcap (999,999,999 gil) for certain houses off the resale market. some people have an endgame of playing final fantasy real estate agent. - housing is hell. - housing is a form of pvp.

my friend didn't use an autoclicker for our fc house in limsa. after buying the house they had to stop playing for like a month because all that clicking actually fucked up his hand. autoclicker would probably be safer.
You forgot: Having property is the only way to get your hands on the 10 thavnairian onions needed to max rank your Chocobo without cashing out 1.5 mil gil.
You can buy the seeds and grow them in FC room and apartment. There's some initial cost but it's less, and you can sell them for profit if you don't need them all.

Yeah that's right let's spend 4m on a small plot to then spend 450k on an estate hall to then spend another half a mil to do the whole tree up to onions just so that we can save 1.5m over a year of leveling your chocobo.
On Crystal at the moment buying the seeds on balmung is under 140k included mb tax, and selling an onion is 174k on the cheapest (coeurl). They are currently higher priced than usual, but it's still a decent way to make moneys :) and they're going for over 200k on malboro, if you have an alt on there (sadly I don't) it'll be a decent way to cash in.
This is a true problem - on my stream and youtube channel I spend a lot of time looking at "accessible" housing - apartments and free company rooms because that is what most new players have access to. You can still do really fun and nice designs in the smaller spaces, although some of the more glitchy high end designs you really do need a large or medium plot to do much with them.
I definitely spent over 20 hours decorating my apartment and uh, it just sits there. No one visits 🤣 but I do like visiting the other apartments in my building. You can get really creative with the space. I just wish I could grow things ;-; (more than the potted plants)
I've played since 2015, and have never known what it's like to not have at least a medium save for like a month and a half after the data center split. I have personally purchased my dream plot twice, and was the one who won our fc our large house. I cosign everything in this video. Housing is incredible and every player should have access to it. You'd be amazed what you can do. My fc leader takes commissions and has built freaking elevators and lala sized houses. It's a shame that more people don't have access to it.
Our tea static dancer had been standing outside of houses for days trying to get one. She was changing shifts with her roomates and her boyfriend (who the fuck agrees to that?) who was connecting to her PC via team viewer or some shit. She eventually got a house after seeing her complain about it on discord for like a week or two.
Having come from ESO I used to agree with you that instanced housing seems like the best idea but then we wouldn't have those wonderful cafes you mentioned or the night clubs that I may or may not visit regularly. The rp community, which has a uniquely thriving part of this game, would be greatly diminished
Do you mean because then people wouldn't be able to visit your house? Having an instanced housing system that you can allow friends or even anybody to visit is still a possibility, tons of games have that.

Probably just a tall tale but I do like the idea of taking someone's money because they're Auto clicking something by mistake. 😆

Then waited until the mass exodus off Crystal cuz OMG Balmung and moved everything straight to the front row of mists beach on the same ward because 400+ lots went abandoned one morning. There is also option 4 of getting a house, go on reddit and illegally buy a FC from someone to get the house with it.
They should lock housing to 1 lot per IP and MAC address. Seriously it was easier for me to get my house in OG ArcheAge than it is in FFXIV. Then again, I'm an RP player on Balmung... FML. You can't even find an apartment, and those *are* instanced... Just limited for some reason.

There just needs to be more to do in the actual wards to encourage spending time there and make it more like a living neighborhood. Making them FC only again would help a lot too, personal houses don't do anything anyway and only house a few people

Justifying yourself by saying it's too hard is bs. Most people DON'T use macro or bots to camp placards. Also prices aren't going up cause of the lottery, but cause they're changing the rules on the secondary market, which used to be legal (unless you wanna rmt, that is) despite what people say on forums and stuff. Which means that you can only buy houses until endwalker, basically.
I've been in the same FC since 2015 because of the buffs from Company Actions... I don't know where they come from, but by this point they've made me an officer. I know no one in this FC and I think they just assume since I've been there so long that I must be important and so they are too afraid to say anything. But that half-price teleport and access to housing...
@@Kasaaz they come from the grand company vendors that are affiliated with your free company IE if your free company is affiliated with immortal flames you can buy free company actions with free company credits at one of the vendors in the immortal flame barracks in uldah.
They can only own one house. You get one house per account. The people with more than 1 house have it grandfathered in from when the system was so unpopular some were able to buy whole wards because they were simply sitting up for sale for months. You can't really fault players for doing this when the houses simply were being unused and there was no restrictions. Equally, square suddenly taking that from them is also unfair in a lot of ways. Despite it being shitty for them to KEEP said houses under the current housing shortage, nothing illegal or even really immoral was done.
Also, housing will become a roulette and chance come 6.0, so no need to camp the plaques now. Just one off, then wait to see if you're the lucky winner.
Technically housing in XIV is already instanced since each ward exists as it's own instance. The problem is that the wards are shared between so many people that at least one person is inside at all times which means the Ward instance has to be loaded almost 24/7. So the real problem isn't that housing isn't instanced, it's that it's not easily scalable since any additional wards require more server capacity. If each player got their own individual instanced house, then even with the same server capacity, they could let many more players own houses because only a small fraction would need to be loaded at any given time. It would ruin the sense of community with each ward but at least a majority of players could actually interact with the system.
There also issue of just storage: each decoratable house needs to account for each object placed and positions and rotations of placed objects (as well as any flags or settings per-item).
10 of my friends and I watch plots literally 18 hours a day in shifts fir 4 months now. Countless times lost the house, weve sat there 16 hours for someone to relocate to the plot, some new guy walk up and get it first try afk 2 seconda and its gone and so on.. It's torture don't do it.

On Crystal Mateus ward 12 goblet there's someone who also owns an entire subdivision. They chat some entitled shit about "making an experience for the community" and saying it's better than other people's decorations, but no one ever goes there and thinks it's irritating and dumb. There was a rumour that it was a memorial to someone who died but that was just nonsense, the owners made a whole post about how they dEsERveD iT
There is really no reason for individual to own the house. There is nothing that really expands your game(with maybe exception of gardening), that is making it worthy and there is still impeding doom of losing it if you dont log in time to refresh your status. Imagine you get hit by car and you spend three months in hospital, or any real life crisis that makes you unable or forget to log in and you are back at beginning. So why bother? You get all basic services in any major city, so there is literally no point of spending time in your house. Alone.
I didn't use a macro for placard spamming, I wish I did because I got carpel tunnel from trying to do the nonTOS breaking way of getting a house. I like my private place to craft but it was not worth carpel tunnel.
I competed against the auto-clickers and won. It felt damn good. I only wish I could have stuck a retainer in front of them but my house has steps leading up to it and so I cannot.
I liked the housing in BDO. being able to set up shop in any town that you liked the look of and then having the gameplay bits mostly separate from it. Putting your crops on public land and such.
it took me 30 minutes of nomal clicking to get a small house in lavender beg there're not a lots of competition at that times of day and the plot is not that desireable. couple months later, out of curiosity i clicks relocate (i legit ignorance about how relocate work) a small plot in shirogane before 10 or so ppl camping there XD poor those guys, i don't even need a shirogane house ha ha
I use my small house for two things... To badly decorate it and to free up retainer bank slots that, before I had a house, were holding housing items. 😆
Ahh my Housing( hard extreme savage ultimate) experience i had 2 years back comes to mind...with a slice of PTSD! Here a totally non-sarcastic recap: Day 1: I click for about 4 hours on the fracking board, then...i had to go for a 1 min rush-bathroom break: plot sold to a click-bot user... Day 2: I click for another 6 hours on a second fracking board...I go afk for 2 minutes to get something to eat: plot sold...this time by a honest player(i guess) Day 3: I click another board for another 5 hours...disconnect, house sold Day 4: (i really wanted a house btw) i click for another 8 hours on the goddamn fracking board...yes 8 hours, whilst talking to 6 buddies in my fc on VC, who btw joined me on my clicking-madness (to scare others away) and then...i get the house. After that incident, i didnt play the game for 2 weeks, its the first time i talk publically about this...i need a shrink...or a funny therapeutic video about the topic :D
I had resigned myself to never owning a house when I started playing 6 months ago when I found out how wack the housing system is. Luckily everyone in my FC is super chill and nice so I’d be fine just having a room in the FC house and be a bum lol.

Ehh, there are a few quests in HW that give out free onions. But definitely not enough for what you need.

They can only own one house. You get one house per account. The people with more than 1 house have it grandfathered in from when the system was so unpopular some were able to buy whole wards because they were simply sitting up for sale for months. You can't really fault players for doing this when the houses simply were being unused and there was no restrictions. Equally, square suddenly taking that from them is also unfair in a lot of ways. Despite it being shitty for them to KEEP said houses under the current housing shortage, nothing illegal or even really immoral was done.

Remember, they said it won't drop till 6.1, so save that gil and sanity.
Also, housing will become a roulette and chance come 6.0, so no need to camp the plaques now. Just one off, then wait to see if you're the lucky winner.
Technically housing in XIV is already instanced since each ward exists as it's own instance. The problem is that the wards are shared between so many people that at least one person is inside at all times which means the Ward instance has to be loaded almost 24/7. So the real problem isn't that housing isn't instanced, it's that it's not easily scalable since any additional wards require more server capacity. If each player got their own individual instanced house, then even with the same server capacity, they could let many more players own houses because only a small fraction would need to be loaded at any given time. It would ruin the sense of community with each ward but at least a majority of players could actually interact with the system.
There also issue of just storage: each decoratable house needs to account for each object placed and positions and rotations of placed objects (as well as any flags or settings per-item).
I've thought about joining people on a plot, not because I want a house, but see what's it like first hand. Like a little science experiment.
10 of my friends and I watch plots literally 18 hours a day in shifts fir 4 months now. Countless times lost the house, weve sat there 16 hours for someone to relocate to the plot, some new guy walk up and get it first try afk 2 seconda and its gone and so on.. It's torture don't do it.
I actually just finished decorating my house. My house that was handed down from a friend who got it from a friend who had a Free Company that died. So yeah, I got an empty Free Company estate. EVER HEARD OF IT?
It's kind of sad that the only ways to get a house in xiv are new wards added, someone not logging in, or the owner just straight up dying irl lmfao

Really cba with housing in this game tbh. Last time I tried I walked up to the empty plot at like 4AM saw 5 people there afk on do not disturb mode clicking away at the sign with their autoclicker and I just left again 😂
I tried twice and had no idea that 99% of people just AFK'd while using auto-clickers... and yet people still think there are no problems with the current system.

On Crystal Mateus ward 12 goblet there's someone who also owns an entire subdivision. They chat some entitled shit about "making an experience for the community" and saying it's better than other people's decorations, but no one ever goes there and thinks it's irritating and dumb. There was a rumour that it was a memorial to someone who died but that was just nonsense, the owners made a whole post about how they dEsERveD iT

There is really no reason for individual to own the house. There is nothing that really expands your game(with maybe exception of gardening), that is making it worthy and there is still impeding doom of losing it if you dont log in time to refresh your status. Imagine you get hit by car and you spend three months in hospital, or any real life crisis that makes you unable or forget to log in and you are back at beginning. So why bother? You get all basic services in any major city, so there is literally no point of spending time in your house. Alone.

I didn't use a macro for placard spamming, I wish I did because I got carpel tunnel from trying to do the nonTOS breaking way of getting a house. I like my private place to craft but it was not worth carpel tunnel.
I competed against the auto-clickers and won. It felt damn good. I only wish I could have stuck a retainer in front of them but my house has steps leading up to it and so I cannot.

I liked the housing in BDO. being able to set up shop in any town that you liked the look of and then having the gameplay bits mostly separate from it. Putting your crops on public land and such.
it took me 30 minutes of nomal clicking to get a small house in lavender beg there're not a lots of competition at that times of day and the plot is not that desireable. couple months later, out of curiosity i clicks relocate (i legit ignorance about how relocate work) a small plot in shirogane before 10 or so ppl camping there XD poor those guys, i don't even need a shirogane house ha ha

I use my small house for two things... To badly decorate it and to free up retainer bank slots that, before I had a house, were holding housing items. 😆

Ahh my Housing( hard extreme savage ultimate) experience i had 2 years back comes to mind...with a slice of PTSD!
Here a totally non-sarcastic recap:
Day 1: I click for about 4 hours on the fracking board, then...i had to go for a 1 min rush-bathroom break: plot sold to a click-bot user...
Day 2: I click for another 6 hours on a second fracking board...I go afk for 2 minutes to get something to eat: plot sold...this time by a honest player(i guess)
Day 3: I click another board for another 5 hours...disconnect, house sold
Day 4: (i really wanted a house btw) i click for another 8 hours on the goddamn fracking board...yes 8 hours, whilst talking to 6 buddies in my fc on VC, who btw joined me on my clicking-madness (to scare others away) and then...i get the house.
After that incident, i didnt play the game for 2 weeks, its the first time i talk publically about this...i need a shrink...or a funny therapeutic video about the topic :D
I had resigned myself to never owning a house when I started playing 6 months ago when I found out how wack the housing system is. Luckily everyone in my FC is super chill and nice so I’d be fine just having a room in the FC house and be a bum lol.
