Thanks for sharing this. I too lived in Korea for the same length of time, and studied Hapkido for 4 hours a day, 6 days a week, under Grandmaster Hwang in Daegu. I always say Hapkido chose me, not I chose Hapkido. GM Hwang was taught by Choi Yung Sool.
Yes, I loved being privileged to study and earn my black belts in both Hapkido and Taekwondo while I lived in Korea for 3 years. I would recommend the study of Hapkido to any and everyone.

At tiger ans out of Massachusetts, I never thought that my journey would begin in my late 30s ..
It looks like very similar to jiu jitzu. But... has Apkido ground fighting techniques ? Functional and not for the show, to defend yourself when your opponement is over you. Thanks.

El hapkido proviene del daito ryu aiki jujutsu, choi yong sul lo aprendió de sokaku takeda, despues volvió a corea, allí se modificó(en gran parte por ji han jae, quien introdujo las patadas).así nació el hapkido, el hapkido y el jiu jitsu no tienen una relacion en tal que sí, pero todos vienen un poco lo de lo mismo Respecto al kung fu, muchas aryes marciales vienen del kung fu o de artes que vienen del kung fu, con lo cual a fin de cuentas, todas las artes marciales(o casi todas) tienen alguna(ya sea muy grande o mínima) relación entre ellas
El Hapkido tambien tuvo influencia del Judo, cuando el maestro Choi Yong Sul conocio al maestro Seo Bok-Seob. Por otro lado el Daito Ryu Aiki jujutsu, era un tipo de jujutsu clasico, pero con enfasis en el concepto del "aiki".
