I feel so bad that Keisha lost so much of her beautiful tail. Glad to see her personality didn't suffer any losses from that experience.

I'm amazed by just how quickly Keisha asserted herself, coaxing him back to let her into the enclosure and jumping to stand higher than him. She clearly wasn't taking any flak from Zeus from the get-go. Zeus is such a grumpy old man, but I understand because he's had a very hard life. I'm glad they finally learned to get along.
Actually, I should think it's Zeus taking flak from Keisha! She's more energetic than him, he's clearly more interested in just laying down and hanging out.
Asserting herself....females don't assert themselves with males, males don't see females as a threat, rather a nuisance....males can kill females if they wanted to

Asserting doesn't mean dominance. She is establishing she won't be pushed around or intimidated. Obviously the male is stronger but a female tiger can still do damage to him if he doesn't respect her boundaries.

@@tpower1912 Keisha actually might be stronger than Zeus, she obviously knows how to dodge and how to fight and when to do it. Zeus is pretty old too.

Just curious...how do you handle matted fur on a tiger? Do you use a long handled brush or does the problem correct itself?

It's funny, Tigers are so territorial that even two tigers with a long relationship need like a week before they can get used to living with a roommate.
Cats are the same way
In the beginning of the video they talk about Zeus and Keisha being in separate cages therefore they were not kept in the same enclosure so they did not have years together let alone a close relationship. They were neighbors. To top it off Keisha enjoys sneaking up on Zeus and he doesn’t see too well so he scares easily. Not exactly ideal when trying to actually have them be roommates.
Geez, poor Zeus. Thanks to his previous owners he's halfway to being Oedipus, right down to being blind in one eye. You would think that breeders wouldn't want their animals to inbreed because of the genetic issues that it can cause, but I guess I'm giving them too much credit. :-/
That was actually the point, the breeders were attempting to get white tigers, which are a genetic aberration resulting from inbreeding.

Hmph, tell that to purebreed dog/cat owners. They care more about how their little genetic disasters *look* than their health.
@@etcetera1995 no kidding. i sort-of-know a cat behavior expert, and they get stuck having to tell folks "your Persian's going to need hand-feeding/your Siamese is *going* to be that chatty/etc." routinely. (mine are rescues, and as of last vet visit everybody was basically okay AND "pretty". it looks like my not-a-kitten maybe has seasonal allergies, but half the PEOPLE here do so whatever.)

It’s sad how other people find other animals as not important and that they think they are in higher respect when all of us and animals are the same of respect so thanks to you guys your helping making the earth a better place and to other people that all try to help. I never liked Zoos in my life because they are EVIL.

Big Cat Rescue If that is the case, you really are doing wonderfully. I've also noticed the quality and number of videos is improving. Chris' videos are what led me to BCR, and it's nice to see that while the videos are slightly different, the quality and dedication to the videos is there once again. Great video!

And imagine at the age in life, to be allowed to explore the world of togetherness with another tiger. No matter the work and observation duties and strains it puts on the keepers and everyday routines - when Zeus and Keisha wants to be friends, they get to be friends, 'cause its all about how they can be most happy. Its so amazing.

This tigers are extremely gorgeous, is very sad how human could ever abused and mistreated this most beautiful and most magnificent animals. I am glad the Big Cat Rescue help to save them.

I'd think not allowing inspectors to do their jobs would be illegal, but the legal system is far from perfect. Happy to see they're settling in together! Ah, feline behavior- I see a lot of my domestic cats in this, but at least they're (somewhat) easier to break up -if- _When_ they fight!
Domestic Cats share a lot of similiar genetic makeup with tigers.

Big Cat Rescue What contingencies did you have in case they didn't get along and started fighting when they were in the same cage? Or is that not an expected behavior in that situation?
Tim Conrad We were prepared with water hoses just in case their scuffles got out of hand. We would spray them until they stopped, and then close them off into separate sections. If the day they shared a common wall did not go as planned, then we would have never tried the full introduction.

No animal deserves to be treated that way, especially not these wonderful creatures. I really respect Big Cat Rescue for all they do for cats like them, to offer them a healthy and comfortable life after years of torment means more than anything to me, and I'm sure to them too.
Oh my Gosh, thanks so much for sharing this video of Keisha and Zeus. I love these two tigers and they still make me cry! LOL! Their story and then ending up at Big Cat Rescue which is in my view, the worlds best animal rescue sanctuary! Its paradise for these animals! I cried so much watching this. It's mindblowingly awful what people do to these amazing animals just for profit but I'm so grateful BCR does so much good work to rescue big cats and help them heal.

Can I just say WOW! What an amazing transformation these two have made.... Keisha was a diamond in the ruff, and now polished she sparkles more brightly than any jewel today, what a beautiful Tigress. Zeus reminds me of my old cat Giles: big, cool, and grumpy =) Isn't he one of the largest tigers ever to reside there? He dwarfs Keisha! How friendly she was to her grumpy Old Man, an entirely different tigress to the scared, roaring, hissing Keisha that first arrived. You guys work miracles.

Aww this is a like a big cat fairy tale. Their life had a rough beginning that left both wounded and marked. But now they not only have a great home with loving humans they have each other.
I can't help but imagine their inner dialogue at the first interaction. Keisha's would be "Open the door.. come on open the door. Hi Zeus...move those paws I want by...darn it cat move.. did you just whack at me? See this paw ? It can whack too. MOVE. Ohh I want this platform and that branch and ohh I want that shady spot."
Confused Zeus was more like "Dang it woman will you settle down. STOP SNEAKING UP ON ME! I really like her but she can be a bit rude and pushy and I'm not too sure but I think she wants my tail. I'd better back her off before I become a bobcat err bobtiger err tigerbob..whatever. She can have the platform, the branch and the shady spot but I'm keeping my tail."
I know she lost her tail under horrible circumstances. But does anyone else think a bobtail tiger is adorable?

+Colonel Sanders Yeah, dog breeders breed to close the line too, and you end up with problems. But you do know that in the wild animals do incest all the time. Most wolf packs, most lion prides have a lot of brother/father/sister/mother type stuff going on. Just how it goes. Look at the English royalty. They do cousins, and they are ok.

Queen Victoria's children carried genes that caused sons (daughters carriers but mostly immune) to be vulnerable to bleeding to death due to a paper and being sickly all the time.
Sickly sons indirectly caused the fall of the Russian Czar's dynasty and possibly the Spanish Royal family.
Both had family descendants from Queen Victoria, and the sons carried the deadly genetic "curse".
INBREEDING IS BAD! If not immediately, in the long term, being done repeatedly, it's deadly!

It doesn't matter that it's "not much" as all those not muches add up to plenty!! And you wake up everyday knowing u have done something to make a difference! I bit the bullet and did that for 2 organizations ( Humane Society and ASPCA) When I die I have it in my will to give money to Bideawee, Animal Haven and Big Cat R.

These two were soooo underrated. I wish there were more footage of them. They are so precious. Despite everything they have been through Zeus is such a sweet boy, and Keisha is such a playful girl. Miss them. RIP

That's awesome. :) It would make me a nervous wreck though I think having to introduce such big cats. I get nervous enough introducing two domestic cats that are strangers when I check homes that have an existing cat for adoption potential. :)

What a wonderful heartwarming video! Watching them become reacquainted is just awesome. Thank God for BCR and all the super fantastic patient and loving caretakers and keepers. Love seeing them happy and content.
They were so skinny! Started to relax when they put on the weight.
Interesting how tigers are usually solitary animals and yet these two like each other and want to live together.
I also noticed that it appears that tigers communicate with each other using mostly body language and a few chuckles.

I LOVE watching Keisha's transformation from a terrified tiger to a big happy kitty! I can only imagine how rewarding it was for your organization. Looks like those two will get along well. How wonderful! I would have been scared out of my wits trying to introduce those tigers!!
What precautions did you take if things turned nasty with the tiger squabbles?
missykim We would have to spray them with a water hose until they separated enough to close them in separate rooms of their enclosure. If the day we gave them common walls did not go so well, then we would have never opened the door completely.

Lovely to go back and see Zeus and Keisha both in such good shape. I've got them both in my prayers.
Such lovely cats. It was wonderful to see how their introduction progressed. It seemed like they were both wanted to make friends, but were a bit on edge-and they didn't want to lose any ground in terms of hierarchy but live together on equal terms! It was like watching a dance, with them going forwards, then backwards, then asserting him-/herself... Looks like it paid off and they settled in beautifully!
