    The shrimping industry isn't what some think of when it's mentioned. Most of the shrimp eaten in USA are imported. A large portion of them are grown in man-made ponds. In order to survive to harvest, there are feed a diet rich in antibiotics. They produce waste from digestion the food given. To live in a pond full of their own feces, if not for antibiotics the shrimp die.
    What commercials shrimp fishermen are paid now is forcing many to give up. The inshore shrimp season opened on this past Thursday May 16th. The price paid to the fisherman catching the shrimp is. XL size witch is 10 - 15 shrimp per pound is 1.05 one dollar and five cents. 16 - 20 is .95 cents 21 - 25 is .85 cents 26 - 30 is .70 cents so as the number of shrimp per pound increases the shrimp are smaller with less value.
    The American wild shrimp is a much superior product then what's being imported. The amount of shrimp being caught by a local boat is often sold to a shrimp dock or shrimp shed. They are put on 18 wheelers and trucked to shrimp processors. Shrimp are peeled, packaged, and put into 125,000 square foot freezers some even bigger. The extreme scale of the freezers also allows them to buy imported shrimp and a place to put it.
    If you are able to buy shrimp from a fishermen you can see and taste the difference. Please ask for wild caught shrimp. If it's wild caught it's domestic American shrimp. From the east coast, gulf coast and the northern west coast shrimp are harvested. The hard working fishermen are under what seams like a deliberate act of sabotage.
    In this video most of the boats shown with long metal outriggers on each side the vessel are Australian fisherman. The title of this video is How American shrimp fishermen make billions in the shrimping industry. Can't tell the truth in a video. But if all you hear about American shrimp fishermen is told with 80% incorrect information it's believable. If all you hear is one story long enough it's difficult to hear the truth.
    Sincerely a shrimp fisherman that is no longer in business.

    • @tony98discovery
      @tony98discovery  8 місяців тому

      Thanks for your sharing. Imported shrimp, often farmed in intensive aquaculture operations, dominate the market due to factors such as lower costs and consistent availability.

    Shrimping is an important industry and vital to many U.S. coastal cities. Sadly, 90% of our shrimp today is farm raised, coming from China, India, Thailand, Vietnam. It's easy to figure out why. Clearly it's economics as it's more expensive to harvest wild caught shrimp. Support your local businesses. I buy American wild caught.

    • @wrightwilliams105
      @wrightwilliams105 8 місяців тому

      Additionally, farm raised are rife with harmful bacteria. Yes, they are treated with antibiotics. Also, for your own health, buy wild caught.

    • @jeffkross9314

      Wrong again. You stated American in your title, I challenge you to the total full truth. In America in two years...a family shimp platter went from $7.99 to $34.99....a Shimp Cocktail can cost almost $5.00 per shimp. Tell the truth about industdties greedy hyper inflation tactics in you story too. I can but a kilo of shimp for .75 cents anywhere in in the world except certain other countries who play the same excuse tactics. I understand what it takez to harvest to the plate. But you said America, thats almost a 5000% increase in two years. Hmmm makes me wonder, greedy weights in on this factor.
