Dollywoods Lightning Rod gets Iron Horse Upgrade - Filmed in 8k Ultra HD

- Lightning Rod is a roller coaster located at Dollywood. It was built in 2016 by Rocky Mountain construction (RMC). It opened as the worlds fastest and first launched wooden coaster. After 5 years of operation Dollywood has decided to convert a large portion of the Topper track to Steel I-Box. Its been considered by many as one of the best roller coasters in the world and this I-Box track replacement should help it to run more often with less downtime and offer an even smoother ride experience. Opening day it did have a rollback and some downtime which is pretty normal at the beginning of a season. Hopefully Lighting Rod will run great for 2021 after all the work Dollywood did.
If you enjoyed this video I hope you will give it a thumbs up and consider subscribing.
Thanks so much for watching!
At 2:14 you can actually see the top wheel trying to fly away from the track.
What a beast of a coaster
It is an amazing machine for sure!
Wheel gap Wednesday my man
Yeah, OKCOASTERS is one of the best, that is definitely the money shot in this video. Takes a lot of patience. When I get to a park, I just want to ride everything. The only video I would shoot is of me having celebratory drinks afterwards.
That’s airtime.
My eyes literally don't even see in this resolution
Strong Home Improvement vibes 😂❤️
I didn't realize you started making commercials! Because this is next tier level! Great work!
Haha Thank you so much!!
I just can’t take the risk of this thing being down.
Hopefully this year its gonna be much better
It seems to be much more reliable this year
One word " Quality "
Superb, once again! I don't know how you continue to 1-up yourself. Outstanding as always.
Thank You so much Sean!
The music fits perfectly 😍
Thank You!!!
My man, you are absolutely crushing it right now. You are my inspiration to get a channel going. Your editing, music selection and cinematography is excellent. I hope to get half as good as you.
Well thank you so much! You will.....Im still learning every day myself.
@@Okaycoasters I just got a GpPro for on ride shots and plan on getting a decent starter camera that isn't overwhelming to do off ride. Hoping to get get up to BTW Carowinds, and Dollywood this summer once I can get my vaccine. Keep up the awesome work.
LOL. I was about to comment something similar. My 16 year old daughter is our editor and she’s a natural. Understands the editing software in a way that I don’t yet(learning slowly though). I show her this channel as what I consider the best in the game at presentation. For real man you are a real talent. And I am a total film junkie. We are gonna post our first vid likely next week, but are planning to launch proper in the late summer/fall. Until then it’s time to get the most out of our family’s Cedar Fair Platinum Passes and grind that footage footage footage! 🎢🎬🎥🎞💻😁
The high quality video of the train coming down the quad down is legendary.
Thank You so Much!!!
That was very fast!
Dollywood completed the transformation instantly!
It really was! I was very surprised
I’m so glad Airtime thrills recommended your channel. I’m actually truly surprised you don’t have more subscribers given the quality of your content. Great work man
Thank you so much for the support and the kind words! That was very nice of him
I clicked the thumbs up before I watched the video cause it’s not even a question anymore
Haha thanks Nathan!
Seeing everyone posting their Lightning Rod videos is seriously making me want to bump Dollywood up on the priority list.
You got me and Jack on the quad! This is some killer footage, man!
Whenever anyone says Taylor Bybee is the best coaster video editor in the game just show them this video!
This channel deserves 300k subs, easily. Great editing and camera work.
This is some absolutely incredible footage man. What a video
Thank You so much!
Best off ride video for LRod I’ve seen
Thank You!
This is absolute gold.
That camera is crisp, can't wait to get out here this year to ride it!
Thank You.....You will love it
The way you film and transition knocks your videos out of the park! Great work man!
Thank You so much!!!!
Awesome day and awesome ride on LR!! ~Dawn
Dollywood should use this as like the trailer or something for lightning rod
You should make a nature Documentary and have coaster bot narrorate it.
This is incredibly edited! Great job
Thank You!!!
You’re my second favorite enthusiast under theme park predictions. Awesome badass stuff. Can’t wait to hit Dollywood twice next week.🤙🏽🥃
Thank You so much! Really appreciate that
@@Okaycoasters My POVs coming out are yours to use with credit if you ever need. Different angles are everything, we move with our elements .🥃
Can’t wait to try this out with the Ibox track! It’s already my number 1 and I’ve heard the Ibox track is making it better 😍
Yeah me too! I was so close a few times. Im sure ill go later this year and it will be walk ons all day (Weekday)
Great footage!
Absolutely stunning shots and phenomenal editing as always!
Thanks a ton!
You keep outdoing yourself!! Great video
Now that’s a high quality video. Incredible.
Thanks!
Incredible footage of an incredible ride!
Also love how almost the entire train had their hands up!! I’m about the only one at my NorCal parks lately!
the footage and editing in this video is 🔥😍 absolutely fantastic work!!!! 🙌
Thank you so much!!
Another great video man. Your good!
I appreciate it!
amazing footage as always! :)
0:01 I Love how The Train Hits The Airtime Points In The Perfect Time Like The Music.
Great Job UwU 👍
Yes!!! It's here! I've always wondered about the quad down. I think the trees blocked it more, but the footage at the start shows the quad clearly. Awesome footage as always!
Thanks! Yeah the trees did block it more
Awesome video! Great editing!! Well done!!
Thanks so much!!
Quality video as always my man 🤙
Appreciate it!
Awesome footage👍🏻we are headed down in June very much looking forward to riding this again
Thank You! I hope y'all have a safe and fun trip
awesome video!!!!
R5 footage is so damn good
Thank You!
Awesome video!
Admittedly, I have no way of playing this video back at anything higher than Full HD, but regardless it's an awesome video, and I gope to see more such portraits in the future. If I hadn't subscribed to your channel already a long time ago, I would do so now. ;-)
Thank you so much for the support!
I need to plan a trip here as I think the lineup of coasters is pretty good. Thanks for this viewpoint.
Absolutely! Its an incredible park
I'm going next month! I hope it'll be working full force when I go!
holy shit this is amazing footage!
Great video!
Thanks!
Getting close to that 10k!!
Thank You so much! Very Thankful! I see you are doing great Too!!!
500th like! Love your stuff!
Thank You!!!
2:15 actualy shocked me
Ow that’s nice
Awesome video. I’ll be there in 2 weeks.
Thank You! I hope you have a fun and safe trip!
@@Okaycoasters So did you ride LR? I rode it 8x last year and loved it.
We were there!! Awesome footage as always.
Thats great! Did you get a ride on LROD?
@@Okaycoasters yup! 3 rides, one back right seat and front row on both left and right today. Got second train of the day Saturday and got a roll back, it never ran again the rest of the day. Glad I made it on today!
Taylor was next in line
going this summer!!!!
Your subs are going up so fast! I love your content and cant wait to see what you have in store for your next video! Also, what did they change about the ride? it didnt look any different.
Thank You! They replaced the wood topper track with steel I-Box
Oh that's what they changed, thx for telling me :)
Dude nice editing, the 8k is amazing!! What did you use to shoot this with?
Thanks! Canon R5
@@Okaycoasters Anytime!
I'm really hoping to make it down to ride it finally this year 🙏
Amazing video as always. What's your view on people filming or uploading at 24fps? It just looks like a picture slideshow to me, especially when it's moving coasters or panning shots. So glad someone believes in 60fps especially with slow motion shots.
Panning shots don't matter as much but anything else I agree you have to film in 60 or higher
Why do ur videos look better than real life? 😂
Ya
Because his vids use the Univisium Aspect ratio
never clicked faster
I'm seriously thinking about heading to Dollywood sometime this spring. How are they doing their queue lines in terms of social distancing? Are they running everything with full trains or spacing them out?
Im not sure of the exact policy on the rides but Social distancing in lines and thru the park. Temp checks in the parking lot. Park has done a lot of work to prepare for everything
A clip as fantastic as expected.
But how does it ride compared with before??
Thank You! I was in line for it a few times and never made it on. Hopefully in a few weeks
okaycoasters Thanks for the response. I keep hearing these downtime stories this week. Wasn’t the new track supposed to solve reliability problems? 😂
I swear if this didn't exist in real life and someone built a replica of it in no limits/planet coaster, people would knock it for being unrealistically intense
It is a powerful machine
Love this footage!! One note: in MY opinion, I'd like to hear the audio from the footage. Not the music. Remove the music entirely, or intermittently transition it to soft but still audible and overdub the real audio on a select number of specific scene cuts (like when the camera is zoomed close onto the train, the roar would be nice). Just a personal note--this is still superb work and you've got a new subscriber here.
Thank you for your support and feedback!!
Shot on Canon R5?
what camera u use homie?
Fantastic footage and editing. I'm kind of sad I can't call this my favorite wooden coaster anymore. The new debate is going to be whether or not to call Lightning Rod a wooden coaster, a hybrid coaster or a steel coaster (for those who consider hybrid coasters to really just be steel coasters). I think of it now as a wood/hybrid hybrid (or hybrid squared for short.)
Hey, question: How did you slow down the 8K Footage to the point where it's not choppy? I ask this because it only goes up to 30fps max and I don't understand how this was so well executed.
That is a great question. Any of the footage thats really slowed down I filmed in 4k 120 but it still uses the 8k sensor so you get more detail than normal. The opening clip of the quad down is one of the full 8k clips for comparison
@@Okaycoasters Appreciate it! Love your footage with the R5.
Does the quad down look totally different now? Or am I trippin? Lol!! Great footage though..I've never ridden this coaster yet...but I could've sworn the quad down looked different lol
Thank You! It does.....They cut down some trees and I was able to get a better view from a different location
@@Okaycoasters ooohh ok cool...keep up the excellent content Champ! 👌
Yes!! They finally gave Lightning Rod the RMC treatment!!! .... wait.
Haha im still getting used to it too!
Now I know I need to make a pit stop 🛑 at Dollywood-lighting fast for Lightening Rod
Sounds like a great pit stop!!!
First!! Great vid!
Thanks!
🤩🤩🤩
How was the ride with the new track? Is it smoother?
I did not get the chance to ride it but the people I spoke with said that it was smoother
What’s the first song called
It does look a lot slower, but it’s still winter and early in the season.
So it was running today? Went there yesterday and kept having roll backs.
I was there on Friday. I honestly don't know how much it ran today
What is the name of the music you used for the video?
What camera are you using?
Canon R5
what camera do you use?
Some footage is from the Canon RP and some from the R5
Everything about this vid is great. My only problem is that Lightning Rod is a ground up hybrid. It did not get the iron horse upgrade.
Thanks so much! Lightning Rod was actually a ground up wood coaster. Now they put the steel track on its more of a hybrid now
Song?
You ride Lightning Rod 2.0 yet?
Not yet
Does anyone know why they cut down so many trees
Not sure but this wasn't the only ride. I noticed a few new views in the park from removed tree's
the first RMC to be RMC'd... 😅
So even with a full train the train sloggs over the predrop. That’s _really_ sad.
Could have been my editing but from the people I spoke with at the park if it is slower it makes up for it pretty quick.
I can't wait to ride this stupid thing again.
