What a fabulous find, a real treat! The coverage was excellent for 1982! The music wasn't great, but you can tell they put a lot effort into the production and the aerial shots again were excellent!

I don't know where you get all of these fabulous, historically important videos, but thank you for sharing them. This one was exactly what I needed this morning, such a slick 80's future-techno vibe, so period!
This one is a prime example of why VHS Rallies exists. The alternative to the tape owner sending it to me was for it to end up in a bin liner and sent to landfill.
i think the 70s and early 80s (before group b) rallies were more like adventures than what we get today or even during the 90s/00s. the stages were long and everything seemed to be professional armatures. its something we will never get again, as everything is now corporate

With those ominous synth tones, helicopter sound effects, green digital calculator fonts, and some obvious inspiration from a movie the year before, perhaps this should have been titled: "Escape from NZ".
That looked like a great event, sort of cross between 1000 lakes and rac. Hannu must of been disappointed after getting a 6min lead only for the car to fail. Fast but fragile
Hard to imagine now, but until this rally Toyota Celicas were regarded as completely and utterly s***. It was the Group B turbo verison that made the car a legend, but this was the model's first win.
This rally went right past my house in the gowan Valley, murchison. I still remember the howl of those 4wd quattros. We were sitting up on the bank above the road watching these nutters fly the corner sideways. My old man probably had the obligatory crate of DB draught having a few quiets while trying to keep us 11 year olds under control. A few years later I used to throw my 1980 rwd mitsubishi LancerEX around the same corner thinking I was hannu mikkola. Then they sealed the road. End of all fun.

@@lustylusty1238 I'm sure an ex Of mine had a 1980 ex or dx turbo manual sedan... Went damn well till the turbo decided to shit its enternals out .... Then the father repiped it for non turbo...... The thrill was gone!!!
