Lil majin the man who Suplex'd the gods of tekken. The small story behind how he did all that is so crazy. King always had a following. also king has a literal 50/50 grab mixup from his crouch dash as seen in that clip, where the same 1+2 animation plays but it's actually a 1 or a 2 break, you just have to guess
Actually, spamming grabs does work for all characters at high ranks. At the very least you have a free 50/50 for 40 DMG and no punish with a positioning of your choice. If you are even a little good, you can mix all of this up with mids and various other things to make people freeze up for even more grabs.
So a lot of how lil majin and high level king players make those grabs land is by treating them like a straight mix up, with the command grabs, they all require a very specific break, but also he doesn't do the obvious things in a lot of cases, eg, everyone expects the shining wizard (running knee) grab when you sprint up to them, so he would spend time in earlier rounds conditioning them to certain responses, then hit em with the grab mix ups to catch them off guard and hide what specific grab he could be doing if that makes sense. King has some really cool mind games he can play with.

that’s his bread and butter, kings grabs are important because that’s his shtick. but running just neutral and having better timing to get these moves off is pivotal.
Alright Afro, the blue spark grabs are from two specific king throws. Forward-Half-circle-forward 1 or 2. Or simply just forward-back-down-forward. If you do the input very quickly the blue effect at 20:04 shows up. With blue spark, the grab does more damage and has a smaller tech window. (And gets a cool cinematic camera!)
You can also get the blue spark from his muscle buster ( down, down -back, back + 1+2) and his Tomahawk throw ( forward, forward, forward + 2+4). Have to input them very fast to get them.

stronger, but everybody this game automatically knows to duck any grab. only way to really get them off this game once you reach anything above green rank is off counters or while someone is mashing. grabs definitely have their own mind game with king. his grabs break the rules of: left hand forward is 1 break, right hand forward is 2 break. He can mixup depending on how King sees you break, making his throws a consistent threat. And he has a crouch throw so you cant just duck. his throws are his counterplay
Your enthusiasm to learn tekken is not only genuine and honest content that gives me joy but its also hype as fuck because its a fighting game im locked in
I would in general gather more Tekken knowledge before trying to compare between 7 and 8. King is extremely rare in tournaments so the reason lil majin is landing these throws is because he is mixing them up well by staying unpredictable, not the character. Thats not somebody every player can do at that level.
11:59 The Blue Spark that LilMajin was talking about refers to a frame perfect grab that is harder to tech (break) and deals more damage, same concept with Electric Wind God Fist (EWGF) that Mishimas use that are super powerful but are hard to execute in matches.
What you saw in Tekken 7 evo were highlights, in reality he’s not grabbing that much & when his is is likely getting teched. The throws are used more a a mixup to set up other stuff, then when they focus on that they get hit by the grabs

2:20 King has grab mix ups. Characters like Dragunov have a 1, 2, and a 1+2 break which is the same for King but King has moves where the animation is completely independent of the break button. The cues that tell high level players what break it is is often the movement before the grab, for example, running and grabbing is going to be shining wizard which is a 1+2 break. But King can also do a true mix up with his crouch dash grab. The crouch dash grab can either be done with 1+3 or 2+4 and depending on which button combo is pressed it's either a 1 or a 2 break. 4:28 this is why in your previous videos I kept saying never count yourself or your opponent until you either see perfect, KO, you win or you lose..... because stuff like this...... COMEBACK
Everyone who started playing Tekken after 7 has seen this video, including me. And at least for me a whole new world opened up after this video and at least I found out the Hype of Tekken tournaments and pretty much instantly I became Lil Majin's fan.
To answer yout question regarding if grabs in T8 are worse than in T7: Throws are actually significantly stronger in 8 due to counter hit throws and the different throw break windows. But they are still reactable and once you get into those blue ranks most people will tech most of them, which is why majin is not using them as much.
No real levels to it. Just that there are grab mixups that are more ambiguous than others. You're watching highlights so of course you won't see all the throws being teched, but if you watch the entire tournament, throws are being teched way more than they work. King's grabs aren't hard to do in low ranks, but the higher you go, the techs happen more so you'll need to mask them behind plus frames and setups. One of King's most important throw mixup is hidden behind an hcf input f,hcf+1/2 (Giant Swing/Tijuana Twister) and is easier to use buffered behind a jab or df1 or a down jab, but if you have good execution, you can also do an ambiguous mixup between shining wizard and giant swing.
2:31 yes we are sure. What we mean is when you were using king on that chain grab people could tech them. Playing king you NEED to be smart, just like Doto when he uses king and pulls a 1 2 string into a grab you need to do stuff like that. Just as you mix up with highs and lows pokes, it's not always grabbing with king.
Yo afro Geese is a Character from King of Fighters a fairly popular 2D fighter and at that time and in general for Tekken 7 he is considered a top tier character up there with Akuma so yeah these 2D projectile throwers were good but Tekken Gods beat those 2D characters
Jesandy is the best king in the world right now, he beat majin multiple times. Also, kings grabs are his 50/50s, some of his throws have Identical start up animations but different breaks.
King was an S tier type of character for a long time, but I personally would say yes, putting king on the map was majin because before that you would mostly see some Bryan's in tournaments but not many king players
He wasn't playing against a random Steve, ShinBlade is THE Steve, so it wouldn't be a foregone conclusion on who wins that especially with the game so fresh. Wish you luck on trying out King and maybe Steve. You understand enough of how to move and how the game feels that trying out characters now gives you a much better idea of if you'd like how they play versus deciding purely on aesthetics.
Grabs are BETTER in 8 than in 7. The reason he doesnt go for as many grabs is because at high level people are looking for them. Much more ducking which means he can threaten mids more to condition them for the eventual grab or two. At lower ranks not only do they not look for grabs they dont tech them as well so you can be more grab spammy.
This run will forever be etched in history. I still watch Lii Majin up to this day, he's crazy good on the sticks and isn't arrogant or condescending. His personality shines through on the streams.
Grabs aren’t hard to tech, it’s 50/50 i push a button to get a certain grab, and u have to guess what button I’m pushing and push the correct button to beat it, new button to every level of the chain grab
And with him grabbing less in 8, it depends on the character he plays and position, he was playing lee, lee has probably the best neutral in the game, so if he was to end the combos with grabs it would put them neutral and that’s kind of a risk against good lee, so he did smaller combos for guaranteed mixup afterwords, like when he lost to the lee and he said “I had to guess all that” was because lee puts u in pure 50/50s
The thing with some of kings more intricate grabs, if you don’t tech the first or second move, you can’t break the rest of the grab so it’s free damage if you miss it early
afro don’t let no youtuber or anybody bully you on how to play tekken. I always believed that you should take something, make it your own and see how far you take characters because everyone’s ceiling is different. Who knows ? maybe you could exceed where lil majin couldn’t ?
When you see him spamming one move and then grab it’s to condition them to hold block instead of mashing and teching the grab by accident, if they’re slow enough by the time the grab happens they’re still holding back
the challenge on the high tier gameplay is that they're so good at reacting that you HAVE to hide your grabs and make sure that your enemies cant see it coming. LilMajin showed the world that properly hiding your grabs with your attacks will make it possible that you can even grab the gods of tekken
Had to fix something if you saw this video when it first dropped. We're good now!

4:28 this is why in your previous videos I kept saying never count yourself or your opponent until you either see perfect, KO, you win or you lose..... because stuff like this...... COMEBACK
I need to see afro react to a top Mishima player. New to Tekken myself and when I saw Ulsan wave dashes, electrics and spacing it was crazy to watch.
He going crazy on 8 bro
Everyone who started playing Tekken after 7 has seen this video, including me. And at least for me a whole new world opened up after this video and at least I found out the Hype of Tekken tournaments and pretty much instantly I became Lil Majin's fan.
excited for a king arc, hes the peoples champ. just wanna see you feel the character out and check out his move list
Lee is cracked as hell too lol. Very complex but an absolute goon when mastered.
Yooo it looks like Afro is losing mad weight! Good stuff brother!
To answer yout question regarding if grabs in T8 are worse than in T7:
Throws are actually significantly stronger in 8 due to counter hit throws and the different throw break windows.
Lil Majin 2018 Evo run is one of the best runs imo. The Fights the crowd and commentators. Everything about this run was just exceptional
Majins face is amazing
Jesandy is the best king in the world right now, he beat majin multiple times. Also, kings grabs are his 50/50s, some of his throws have Identical start up animations but different breaks.
King was an S tier type of character for a long time, but I personally would say yes, putting king on the map was majin because before that you would mostly see some Bryan's in tournaments but not many king players
I know you set on King, but you can give ShinBlade TV a lil watch and reaction vid to give your take since you were deciding between King or Steve.
Grabbing at that level is high risk
The players can anticipate them and punish you.
Grabs are BETTER in 8 than in 7. The reason he doesnt go for as many grabs is because at high level people are looking for them. Much more ducking which means he can threaten mids more to condition them for the eventual grab or two. At lower ranks not only do they not look for grabs they dont tech them as well so you can be more grab spammy.
dont worry about players teching grabs at higher play. The counter to this is mixing up your throw game, no play can break every throw
This run will forever be etched in history. I still watch Lii Majin up to this day, he's crazy good on the sticks and isn't arrogant or condescending. His personality shines through on the streams.
No matter who you main Afro Im in your corner 💯
Wow the direct comparison from tekken 7 to 8 is crazy
Hearing that Kindom Hearts island music at the very end, hit me harder than any of these combos. Great vid my guy! 😂😢😂
haven't watched the channel in awhile but bro has been working out he looking good.
damn.. i really cant wait for more tekken action of yours
