- Unboxing and BUILDING the QuickBuild ROUTEMASTER Bus From AIRFIX.
Inspired by the original AEC Routemaster, Wrightbus introduced the New Routemaster in 2012.

It was noted for having a rear open platform with "hop-on hop-off" capability, similar to the original Routemaster. These are often called Boris Bus or Borismaster bus, Boris Johnson Implemented them.
Brick by brick, these striking new model kits have been carefully designed to guide children aged 6+ through the building process, as they build icons of the capital, no glue needed!
Durable enough to play and display with joy, the New Routemaster Bus is our biggest Quickbuild set to date, includes 88 parts, moving wheels and stickers.

£24.99 ain't exactly cheap.
Boris doesn't build model buses at all! That was just spin-doctor stuff to divert attention and/or SEO checks on Bojo's disastrous record as a Mayor/MP/PM!
Looks like a nice kit!
Sorry for the pedantry but the bus in the picture at about 30 seconds is an AEC Regent III RT not a Routemaster.
I noticed that too, used to drive them and the Routmaster back in the day.
Hands up!! I just put routemaster in google and this was the first one that came up lol
Very enjoyable vid Mos.
A great way to get young people into model making.
The finished vehicle is pleasing and to me, at least, it looks very nice.
Nice work.
Inspiring the Young Generation, Top Stuff Mate, Bloody Legend
Enjoyed your video. I have built a few of the Quickbuild aircraft, and I was impressed, and I enjoyed building them. I cannot say the same for this Routemaster. I’ve been building standard Airfix kits for over 50 years, and was looking forward to this build. It was a nightmare! Parts repeatedly ‘popping off’ as I went. Final straw was seats coming adrift more than once after the outer cladding and roof was applied, and yes, I made doubly sure they were pushed firmly into place. The area around the rear of the bus fitted very poorly into place, and left some big gaps, in fact there were wide gaps in many places, just as you found on your example. Credit where credits due, it looks good when finished. But as you found on your bus, there were many scratches and marks on the dark glazing, very annoying, there’s no excuse for that. The stickers look good though! Would I buy another? No.
@@Tirana44 yes I will say the scratches are very annoying. I know why but nothing can be done about it.. I would use a bit of superglue on some bits
Hiya MOS.. I just noticed in the unpacking that there appear to be no holes in the plastic bag holding the parts. I'm fairly sure Health and Safety would pounce on that because AFAIK there are supposed to be to prevent an accidental suffocation if say a child put a discarded bag on their head.
WRT quality control, I think you get what you pay for. In the UK we probably have more stringent regulations than some other countries, and there's probably a balance to be struck between cost of manufacture and quality of product. In this case I think the former has been prioritised and as a result the latter - the quality pf the product - has suffered.
Can you ask Airfix to make one in a normal plastic kit in 1:24 so I can sit it next to the Revel 1:24 old school Routemaster?
Great video, this looks to be a nice enjoyable build. I am pleased that Airfix have released this model. It is a shame that no other manufacturer has released a larger scale model of the NBFL, i.e. 1:50th scale. Would love to see an actual plastic kit from Airfix of this bus in the future, to complement the kit released by Revell of the AEC Routemaster.
Update.
For anybody interested its 1/37 scale for some reason
Thank you That's an odd scale but as bus kits are so rare I think I will get one.
Correct. It's a foot long model and the real thing is 37 feet
That is close to "LEgo" scale.
@@markgordon2260 the seats have studs on too so will take a minifigure
Hi Moss you are officially in the Boris build a bus club and just a thought I wonder if Sully would build this kit as if it had just been blown up by the London bombers LOL
Joking aside I thinkthe quick build kits are a bit too easy for a modeller but I like this kit it has a lot going for it gr8 video mate
Would be better if they made stickers for the different bus companies that have these buses.
This looks more complicated than the other Quickbuilds I have seen, probably because of its size, but it would be nice to see this as a "proper" model kit. Is this around 24th scale in overall size or a bit smaller? I've been seeing some Quickbuild kits around but I haven't been tempted to try one yet because they seem a bit toy-like. However, it might make a good slump buster or could work if my daughter wants to get into the hobby.
Nice video.
Many many thanks
We tried one of these but those white panels just wouldn't lock into place. Also parts just not lining up properly at all. My build was a horrible build and things broke.
they do have a nack.. sorry it didnt build too good
I use Scalemates too
Airfix was already known for the loose parts in its boxes but they have taken it to another level with this one providing loose parts on purpose.
Can Airfix do a Quickbuild series of Gerry Anderson vehicles? The three main Captain Scarlet vehicles - the red one, the big Blue one and the white one >>AND
Hi MOS, Nice little kit, shame as you say about the QC, looks like when Airfix fix one issue in India, another one pops it's head above the parapet 😮
its annoying really
The windows should be a high gloss finish rather a sort of semi gloss effect
easy fix dip um
in just like glass
👍👍
The photo you show is LT AEC Regent Mklll (RT Class) not an L T AEC Routemaster (RM Class).
ah okies lol. i just found it on google lol
The marks are a sign they think of it as a toy, not a scale model kit
Not at all glossy is it Mos? Those windows look positively dull!!
And too dark!!
About 1:37 scale so around the same scale as some 1970's Corgi cars.
I love Airfix kit's and that will never change, but I'm sorry I just don't like these kit's, they really well made and they look good I know I'm probably in the minority, but I can see the appeal for the younger builders just not for me, great video though.
What scale is it ?
I was wondering that, I’d guess 1/32. Pity it wasn’t 1/24.
@@CycolacFan Somebody mentioned 1/37.
@@flitsertheo that’s a weird scale if that’s true, won’t appeal to any serious modeller wanting to build it into something more realistic or even have it as a background model.
@@CycolacFan That scale was posted by someone else here and it seems about right. The bus could be useful as"forced perspective" background model for 1/35 or 1/32 scale. Or even as a miniature for 1/6 scale action figures. But otherwise this is the Matchbox principle : it has to fit in the box.
Well done great job but not for me, I like the old style kits. Oh the bus in the thumbnail is not a AEC Routemaster it's a AEC RT Regent made at AEC works Southall, also made by Park Royal Buses that used to be where the hospital is now. The name of the hospital escapes me at the moment. The AEC works used to be next to the iron bridge at southall.
Thanks for that matey! I get these kits are everyone’s cup of tea but they do make great presents :)
The google image search let me down on this occasion haha
Ok mate understandable Google makes mistakes like us all, that AEC works got swallowed up by Leyland in the end I remember delivering metal fasteners to there in the mid 1960's. You can if you're interested see some short videos three to four minutes long on UA-cam. Just put in AEC works Southall they will come up. When you see the videos it will also show you what this country was like for building things, we used to build everything for the world it'll make you feel proud to know that. Now we build next to nothing so sad.
@@regd.2263 I’ll have a look :)
It's missing the rear doors, I know it's supposed to based on the original Routemaster but the new ones still had doors.
They often ran especially early on with the back doors open
The results look decent for a snap together kit, but for what that thing retails for, it's inexcusable not to include water slide decals as well....that will cancel my having one....
The only reason they aren't waterside is because this kit is designed for children, 6+ I believe. And there is no defined scale which would make it slightly more difficult for accurate decals.
Er, it's a quick build
It's stickers because its aimed more at the younger market my friend
The rear door was missing on mine too. should be here there are lugs. But it’s missing from the instructions too.
Defintly not something you see everyday....as in a model of a bus rather than a real bus.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Builds up nicely les could looking bus shame about the marks
Who thinks this is a bug-master
I build it in 5 hours. Terrible instructions. Parts are not numbered and I had to guess which parts goes to. When I clicked and it fits. If not clicked means not right part to click shut. It needs platform floor at the rear. Not an exhibition model. Scale is roughly O scale. Airfix needs to improve their instruction book as the pictures are too small. Not a model and just a toy.
That’s a shame about the poor quality control
What's all this build crapp
Looks like LEGO, but not as good.
I personally think it’s better than Lego because it’s gives you a realistic finish
boring 41 taps on the box before you start the build i fell asleep
