INSANE video of failed heist in South Africa

- Опубліковано 28 лис 2024
- A dashcam video showing the moment an armored cash-in-transit vehicle coming under the attack of armed robbers has gone viral for its adrenaline-raising action and the composed response of the security guards.
The incident from Pretoria in South Africa happened on April 22 when members of a private security company were transporting money in a truck.
The three-minute video shows a security officer, identified as Leo Prinsloo, behind the wheels of a Toyota Land Cruiser. He is accompanied by another officer, Lloyd Mthombeni. Both are seen wearing bulletproof vests.

The fact he got OUT of a bulletproof vehicle to fight back should tell you everything about this dude.
probably the right thing to do with his skillset. bulletproof isn't fire proof and it looked like he had it stuck.
I thought that Scott from KB surviving a SLAP from an RN-50 was good stuff, but this MADLAD brought madness to a whole 'nother level.
From what I've read it was at that point the robbers decided they better pick an easier target.
These guys (Special Task Force) are trained to do this. The safest place you can be in this situation is outside the vehicle. Inside you’re a sitting duck, and a bullet proof vehicle is only bullet proof for so long. They actually set cash in transit vehicles on fire in South Africa. If they get out, they’re dead. If they stay inside, they’re dead. You can at least shoot back when you are outside. 😉

@@robgroom190 agreed. I'd have probably shit myself lol
Even with years of training the first move onto a 2 way range is fucking terrifying, even with blanks and sim rounds its not the same and its VERY HARD to break that in a training scenario because knowing its not real and its going to bruise but you won't die and can go to.the pub as a unit afterwards means something big.
That level of confidence is from solid training, experience with his tools, knowing he had a team nearby he trusted and knowing how he reacts.to being shot AT combined with a 'I have to take the fight to them' knowing there is no other option.
He was prepared.for.that even before it started, great situational awareness, a plate carrier with spare magazines for the rifle, knowing if he runs out of ammo in a handgun he really needs a rifle and a solid ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Thats is someone who could be an incredible instructor. Shame his skills aren't being utilised and won't be utilised by the current SA gov and they make it almost impossible to leave if you have that kind of skill set. (Their anti mercenary laws that trapped most of their mil there basically S.A have to approve the job you are leaving the country to do otherwise they won't let you leave. Its one of several ways the current gov is trapping groups they hate but are forcing to work for them)
To the new guy’s credit, dude didn’t even flinch when that bullet hit his window. That wide eyed look might look like fear but it’s a natural response to high stress (I think anyway) so that you can see as best/much as possible. He may have not looked as cool and collected but I think he handled his business well enough given all the circumstances. I bet the dude is better prepared the next time though lol

As sb with family in SA, i can assure you it's more effective to phone your buddies and neighbours when shit goes down. Not only are they likely faster at your location than the police, they are also more likely to help you shoot back at criminals. While police does not want to get hurt and avoids conflict as much as possible. When a neighbour of my fam there got robbed in his home, he first contacted his neighbours to come and help him.
At least that's true for Pretoria. Idk, Capetown might be better.
I agree. My friend in Upington said the same thing.
Ok, so here's more of the story, and there's more dash cam footage of this including a rear view. This is an update from a contact of mine in the SA Police, these guys were the escort vehicle for the cash in transit van, which the robbers went after as well. That vehicle is the one that is behind the pick up truck where the guys were jumping out of that Leo tried to run over. Three vehicles tried to take them both out, and possibly a fourth vehicle, which sped off. Robbie, his partner, was in his first week on the job and it was his fourth day at work, which is why he looks a bit startled. Near the end, where it looks like they were stuck, they had actually rammed the blue Audi with the robbers in it, and that had forced the Audi over some bollards which you can see in the still photos near the end of your video. Leo then tried to hit it again, but he got stuck on the bollards. When Leo jumped out of the truck with his rifle he engaged the guys in the Audi, but they fled after firing a few shots back. One was found later to have bled to death after being shot in the leg by Leo, and death threats have been made against Leo which is why he's actually under Police protection. The guy he killed was ex SA Military, so the crooks are well trained. The robbers were actually after cell phones, which was the cargo that the cash in transit van was carrying.

I kind of suspect that the passenger may actually be doing what he is trained to do as someone in that seat. I'm thinking that in a multiperson team, he has an area of responsibility, that is scanning ahead for threats or obstacles that the driver may not be looking for while dealing with maneuvering the vehicle and observing the closest threat. I feel it's probably a bit harsh to criticize him for being only a passenger and of no use. Dunno, not a security guy, nor have I received training in it, but it would seem logical that he's been trained, and is falling back on the tasks he's been trained to do.

Bullet resistant. Vehicles are not bullet proof.

I'm from the UK and we had a problem with these types of offences a couple of years ago, but they nipped it in the bud though proactive intelligence led police operations. Also the vast majority of crooks here don't have access to the kind of firepower their South African counterparts do.
They caught many of the gangs by placing undercover armed police officers in the transport vehicles, and followed them in unmarked cars.
When the crooks tried to spring their trap they were met with heavily armed and expertly trained officers who completely overwhelmed them.
I'm guessing from what I have seen and am reading about SA, the police over there can't be relied on like they can be here..?
