- Lichenologist Joe Hope takes us to a secret location known as Lobaria Glen, where we discover many of the unusual lichens that are now only to be found in ancient woodlands on the humid west coast. These lichens used to be much more common across the British Isles, but habitat destruction and pollution, especially since the Industrial Revolution with its increase in sulphur dioxide and acid rain, have had such a drastic impact that they are now increasingly rare.

I can’t get enough lichen information; in fact you could say I’m lichen these videos! Keep them coming please.
Thank-you! That was amazing to see the dry lichen 'spring to life' after having water poured on it!
So beautiful. You can feel the place has had peace for a long time. Rare these days.
Secret lichen location indeed! Love the video Joe - great to see you and hear your words of lichen wisdom.
This is very nice, can't believe its in Wales
Thank You💖🧡💛💚💙💜 I live on well lichened area. Perhaps time to start naming them...
Lovely documentary
Lovely lichen
So glad I've seen this video! It turns out that the amazing lichen in my local woods is Peltigera membranacea. I feel extremely lucky to be able to see this and many other lichen on my daily woodlands walk! (I'm in South Wales by the way)
May I ask what loupe you are using? I have a lovely Bausch and Lomb 10x loupe, but it doesn't have its own light source.
Great video, well done!
