    What a great transformation of the scene you made by fixing the contrast issues. Thanks for sharing this.

    I love how you explain your thought process and why you are doing certain things when watercoloring. It is one of my favorite things about your channel.

    It's always so inspiring to watch you sketch out a scene - i feel easily intimidated by details, but after watching this I want to practice some more.

    Thanks Teoh, i always wonder about sketching the same thing more than once.. I don't do it , but i suppose it can't hurt. Your so right about color and values. You can literally use any color at all if it's the right value.

    Ok now I know what was wrong with my painting lately : not enough contrast! Thanks for bringing that up, it will help me for sure! :)

    Thanks for the video Teoh! While I miss the people from the first sketch (those figures on the foreground added a nice sense of life and scale to the scene), the second one is much better IMHO, specially the tones you choose for the large block of buildings on the left. Anyways, great work, thanks for sharing!

    Another beautiful piece, love love love your watercolors! I will take away and apply your tips on contrast, thank you. I love your sketching style, not straight like in real life. That being said, I do my best to sketch fairly straight true to life lines in my adobes set at a distance (mud houses from the desert Southwest of the USA).

    Great sketch Teoh. 👌 Good suggestions trying to get people to loosen up and know that things need not be an exact match for what one sees. I used to be in that frame of mind that colors must be almost exactly what I see. Then watching others and looking at their methods I finally got it. I'm just sketching what I see; I'm not reproducing it lol.
    I understand now why sometimes an artist might add a single bright red line to a blue sky. It used to stump me. Why a bright red line in a sky that seemingly doesn't belong there? It's an element of fancy, something imagined by the artist added in for visual interest or perhaps just because they can. 😉

    Exercise: Use your palette "mud" for a value study. Sometimes they come out pretty cool...

    Wow! I love seeing the two different versions of the same scene. I also like how you explained your palette and watching you apply the colors in such a loose spontaneous fashion. Did you feel your approach was spontaneous or was that just my interpretation?

    I really love watching your urban sketches and watercoloring. It's so amazing that I personally want to try out. I'm not into urban sketches, I'm more into cartoons/anime type. Can you suggest where do I start into trying urban painting? I only have sakura koi and prang as my watercolors

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  6 років тому

      You can draw outside near your home, at bus stops, train stations, cafes, where people hang out, famous buildings in your area. Check out Urban Sketchers blog for more inspiration. Or see if there's a USK group in your area and join their sketching sessions.

      Thank you so much. I will try to learn first the perspective. I think that's where I should start. I am here in the Philippines and I will try to look for USK groups nearby. 😍
