Henry is is my favorite Plantagenet and I visited the abbey in June 2023.
Mine too-- him and Eleanor. I'd love to go back there someday☺️
We stayed for a night in Sept 2023 at the White Cross Hotel, in the square in front of the Abbey. There is also a 5* hotel, and a Michelin * restaurant next to the Abbey. The village is lovely, a few market stalls in the square, a beautiful old church, a laundry area which is fascinating. We also followed a footpath through the woods at the back of the Abbey. It is a great place to visit, and it followed a visit to Poitiers which has several buildings linked to Eleanor too.
Oh that sounds like an amazing trip!! I'd love to do a full trip tracking Eleanor someday.
The medieval hall in Poitiers and the Cathedral are both fascinating.
