Maxillaria and the rest of your orchids look great. I'm watching this as I'm soaking some coconut husk right now for a mass repotting tomorrow. I wish I knew about husk sooner.
I found ur video as i was lookm for info on the orchid coconut fiber i got few weeks ago..it was a block and a mix of chucks of coconut and fibre bits..( Not same as urs) .. I heard it was full of salts. Seeing little spot on one already.. also stays too loose in the pot . I just removed it all from the plants i just done few weeks ago and potted them up with bark and spag... I might experiment on a couple to see..ill soak it to remove anything..
We recommend topwater. You don't have to rehydrate the potting medium, the water is caught in the cross fibers. You may want to soak a bit if the plant got too dry. One of the benefits with the cocofiber, is that it's really hard to overwater.
Can you give an estimate, how many 6" pots would 1 pound of fiber fill? I am looking to repot my 4 miltoniopsis into something more water retentive. Would you recommend this media for miltoniopsis? I actually have them in LECA now, and I can't keep it evenly moist. They grow, they bloom, but they have a lot of accordion leaves.
Maria, sorry to not see this before. This media dries out more quickly than others. We have very few Miltoniopsis in the greenhouses, but the ones we have do better in this media for us. Miltonias too. However, this media is not a good fit for people who are chronic "underwaterers". You can probably repot 3-4 6" pots with 1 lb. Thanks!
Can you explain watering in detail, how many times a week....it seems like they are dry every other day. Are all of your masdevallia’s on humidity trays?
Hi Shirley, All our Masdevallias are in our cool growing greenhouse (kept cool 48°F-75°F, shady and moist). They are not in trays as the greenhouse is kept very humid. The coconut fiber does dry out more quickly than other potting mediums, but the plants respond well and put off vigorous root growth. Depending upon what the climate is like where you live, a humidity tray may be a welcome addition for the Masdevallias. Couple ways to tell when it's time to water again: Look at the cocofiber through the bottom of the pot through the drainage holes, if it's still moist the plant has enough water. You can also stick your finger down in the potting medium along the plant base and check moisture level. You can also pull the plant and cocofiber easily in and out of the pot and check that way. I never like to tell anyone a "schedule" for watering as environmental factors vary so much from place to place. Just remember Masdevallias do like to stay on the moist side (remember cool, shady and moist for masdevallia care), but don't want to be sopping wet all the time. Hope this helps!

Very informative i use spag moss but going to replant some this weekend and try coconut fiber
So cool! Can't wait to try repotting with it.
Can the coconut fibre be used for repotting phalaenopsis and vandas aswell?
Thank you Blaine very informative! I just received masdevallia’s from you very excited to see blooms ❤️
Wonderful! Please reach out via our website with any questions.
I guess it's quite off topic but does anyone know a good place to stream newly released movies online?
@Damon Luis I watch on FlixZone. You can find it by googling :)
@Dangelo Elliot yup, I have been watching on Flixzone for months myself :D
@Dangelo Elliot thank you, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) I appreciate it!!

Soaking is a good idea. Chucky coir with fine fibers is a rally different product than what we sell.
@@orchidsforthepeople5056 yeah it is supposed to be orchid mix...its the only thing that came up while searching.. Never seen ur stuff before
What style of watering do you recommend? Top water until it runs out, soak it in a bucket for a bit & drain well, bottom water?

@@orchidsforthepeople5056 cool, thanks! I have a couple of mini Phals I'm going to repot into cocofiber, if I have enough.

Orchids for the People thank you Blaine I have the cool growing conditions and been using rain water.
Could you tell us your source?
We sell the cocofiber at the nursery, and online.
