- Live A Live, another jrpg on the Nintendo Switch. I'm telling ya the Nintendo Switch is a home to all JRPGs. Live A Live is a classic, originally Japan only finally made it's way to the west. In the Live A Live review I cover the story, and gameplay and more. Thank you for watching my review of Live A Live! If you're a sucker for jrpgs, there is no reason not to pick up Live A Live on the Nintendo Switch!
" A classic RPG reborn in HD-2D for its worldwide debut
This storied RPG by director Takashi Tokita, known for his work on CHRONO TRIGGER and FINAL FANTASY IV, has been revitalized in the stunning HD-2D visual style and is releasing outside of Japan for the first time. Each story is set to a rearranged version of the original soundtrack overseen by KINGDOM HEARTS series and FINAL FANTASY XV composer, Yoko Shimomura.
Many heroic stories unfold across time periods in this RPG classic
Begin the tale with seven different stories featuring diverse protagonists, time periods, and gameplay styles. Experience them in any order you choose-the adventure is yours to control. In The Wild West, a wanderer with a bounty on his head fights for his life. In the Twilight of Edo Japan, a shinobi undertakes a secret mission. Unravel a legend that crosses eras and reveal how these unlikely heroes are connected. "

Thank you so much for watching!! My next review will either beeeeeeeee Skyward Sword OR... a review I've been holding on for like... nearly 2 years? Final Fantasy X (because reasons). Either way! Hope you look forward to it A N D please consider supporting me on Patron!
I'm glad the algorithm showed this to me. Really good editing and voicing. The pacing of the whole video is perfect. Can't wait to watch more.
THE NEW ERA OF LADY PELVIC!
beautiful video. editing was so smooth and on point, made the video flow even better than you typically do. was worth the wait, can't wait for more, top of the line as always, pel don't miss it's crazy
I LOVE this game. The stories and characters are all interesting, and the way everything ends up and ties together is really cool. I love the concept of having a game that's essentially a collection of smaller games all tied together with similar mechanics and themes, but also featuring unique mechanics and twists to reflect the setting and characters.
More like the last several years but yeah this year was pretty great. I love it. This industry is finally doing what we always wanted for 20 years of generations, rebooting popular frachises, remakes, sprictual sucessors, remasters, etc. Instead of developing IP's that no one cares about. There has been a huge shift towards an appreciation for old video games and I am so glad its not a dying art form unlike say "hollywood films". can't wait to play the new Octapath traveler II, Star Ocean Divine Force, Trails from Zero/Azure, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Eiyuden Chronicles, tactics ogre reborn, Valkyrie Profile Lenneth, Romancing Saga minstrel song, Suikoden I, and II and were even getting a BOF and shadow hearts/Wild arms spirtual sucessors. Amazing times we live in.
Played this game during recovery from a hernia surgery and it was a blast; originally watched SuperDerek play it on Twitch. Seriously glad to see this remake is getting the love it deserves
Absolutely loved this game. The twists and surprises near the end was awesome. And how every boss had the a variation of the same name
This is my all-time favorite game; not sure if it still is, since I haven't played it in many years, and I've had some very lovely experiences since then, but for now it stands. So glad you enjoyed it, too! I first played this in the era where everyone was OBSESSED with plot twists, and even though many games were using them as though they were plot points, nothing, NOTHING I've ever seen has even come close to measuring up to the one this game has. I haven't played the remake (don't even have a Switch, technically), and I don't know if I will, but I did have to cheer when I found out that the Buriki Daioh (guess they're calling him Steel Titan, now?) theme had vocals from none other than Kageyama Hironobu. The look on Ms. Shimomura's face when she's talking about it in the interview... she's just having the time of her life!
Love the hair! Thanks for the review. I will pick this up in a sale now that I've just completed triangle strategy
I love, love, LOVE this modern era of classic RPGs where they make a 3d effect out of a town of 2d 16-bit JRPG sprites.
I am playing it now! Been bouncing back and forth between it and a few other games but I love it so far! Thank you for giving this game the attention and shout outs it deserves!
I loved this game so much so I was glad to see someone finally covering it!
Great review, I didn't realize they kept some of the spicy phrases in this release. I only know the SFC fan translation which I believe was pretty true to the original japanese, but apparently this rerelease is too...cool!
This is my favorite LIVE A LIVE review period. Nice job!
Wow thank you so much!!
No, no no. Thank YOU! I really wanted to buy this game ( love DQ4, and OCTOPATH 2) but couldn’t find a compelling reason to do so until this review.
I NEVER CAME SO FAST FOR A NOTIFICATION I LOVE THAT GAME SINCE I WAS 12
I played the demo and loved it so pre-ordered immediately as I found a good physical copy deal. Then it crept down my backlog for some reason! Your review makes me think I should make it my next game. Great content as usual thank you!
I’ve been, incorrectly pronouncing this live (like give) A live(give). 😅 This makes more sense. The art is amazing. And that Edo music? Chefs kiss. Love the review!
Great review! It really feels like more that the sum of its parts. Plus, the soundtrack is amazing. I’m trying to track down an ost copy as we speak, which is not all that easy for a decent price, unfortunately.
Thank you for watching! And sadly, the price of games are climbing up ;n;
Game looks gorgeous. Would be great to see Chrono Trigger remastered like this, but I imagine they'd go full 3D like Trials of Mana.
Great review keep up the hard work👍
Megalomania spiritually healed me every time
Good review I got a copy of this and I am hyped
Cant wait to pick this up. Looks really good! Great review so far
Really looking forward to trying this one soon. Bite-sized stories in JRPG form have been hitting for me, with stuff like this and Jack Move out there. Just gotta finish Phantasy Star IV first!
I have to ask, as phantasy star 4 is one of my favorite games from the era...is it your first time playing? What do you think of it?
@@jmarx3943 I was having a great time with it, maybe a third of the way through. The one downside, the only one, was not having descriptions for these uniquely named skills and spells. I went on vacation, came back, and forgot what everything did. Which led to me falling off and not finishing it (yet). I was really liking it but I pulled up a walkthrough just to know what did what, which was kind of a pain in the ass.
@@ChrisLT that's happened to me with numerous games. Yeah, not knowing what spells are by name is an issue for sure. I've beaten the game numerous times and there are still certain spells that I never use and have no idea what they do lol
This was the JRPG I was most excited to play that was released this summer. Xenoblade is great but I love when a classic game gets an amazing remake like Live a Live did. After having played it you can really see how it was definitely a precursor to Chrono Trigger. Loved the video I'm glad it showed up in my feed. Looking forward to seeing more.
Awesome review! I have to get this game whenever I have time, my backlog is getting insane lol
A shorter JRPG sounds great. Multiple endings too in some of the campaigns too?! I should get this game at some point. ^_^
Present day should be called the 90s
Absolutely
If you look real carefully, you can see that Masaru has a smartphone hidden in his pocket.
Pelvic I been saying it for a while but nows a good as time as any to jump into "trails in the sky" As a jrpg enthusiasts with alot of experience, that series will blow you away in terms of flawless character development, executed storytelling and world building like you have never seen before across the jrpg landscape.
Fantastic game, it’s probably the first of these HD2D games that I really liked
yeah i'm down with the HD2d pixel thing to be used all over the place. -towtansua
I really enjoy your reviews pelvic gaming can you tell me some RPGs for PlayStation 4 and switch that are good or jrpgs they're not too expensive maybe you know some that are not physical copies?
The Imperial China story low key reminded me of Kung fu panda
This video is so amazing! Imperial china was my favorite 😂😂
Another great review!

Should be enough.
I was hoping you'd go a bit more into the Final Chapter and Medieval chapter. I get why Far Future would be not your favourite - especially with your totally fair relationship with horror. But I found the script for Medieval kinda obnoxious (maybe I just wish they were more meaningful with their meter), and I found final chapter to be really uninteresting and had a lot of the fat back (Medieval to an extent too) that the trimming of made the first 7 chapters so good.
Overall I really liked the game, even if the final 2 chapters were a bit of a slog for me.
Live a Live is a wonderful game!
The game has been great! I played it back in the day, but never finished it. I'm currently in The Middle Ages. So far though the Future story is my favorite and Edo Japan is my least favorite.
lol shinobi and distant future were my easily favourite stories
the brady bunch??
Why'd you stop giving a final number rating at the end of your reviews?
LIVEALIVEALIVEALIVEA
So this is a collection of short stories where unlike in Octopath they don’t all come together as one story in the end? Oh ok interesting.
I didn't say whether it comes together in the end or not. :)
@@PelvicGaming ohhhhh I see. So it could be like Octopath. I just have to play. Ok.
cool ass game, but it only made me even thirstier for that DQ3 remake in the same style...
Distant Future literally is the metaphorical blue cheese of live a live
I'm interestainment
Game very easy.
Haha, I'm already not a fan of scifi, so color me unsurprised that your description of the future segment sounded like the least interesting of the bunch.
u played the shinobi level wrong, u can kill the men just dont kill the women and u still get the bonus items at the end. Furthermore u can turn on the dialogue text to appear faster and it will line up better with the voice acting. Come on noob.
There is no wrong way to play it, but that way maximizes the rewards. Obviously, one can also go back and kill all the women once you get the box for the delicious exps and obis.
Live-A-Live was sooo good! I only played a little of the from back in the day and this one was an amazing remaster. I ended up going the pacifist route too which is why Edo was my least favorite... The medieval chapter was gooood too! A great in between game before the behmouth Xenoblade 3. I wish Chrono Cross would have had voice acting too...
ahhh, I liked the Cube! Hahaha. Great video, mate :)
Man, if I told myself 10 years ago we'd be getting amazing versions of long-lost JP-only gems, I would've burst out laughing at how absurd it sounds.
Fucking Live a Live not only came back, it came back with a fantastic remaster/remake effort. It came out of NOWHERE.
Okay.
Okay..
Okaaay...
Okaaaaayyyyy.......
I really enjoy games that have seperate ways to play, with different stories. I might give this one a try eventually. Loved Ocotpath Travler surprisingly so I might enjoy this one. :D
This 1994 game is more fun and unique than most JRPGs these days.
My second favourite game of all time. I haven't played the remake yet, but it looks very promising!
Was waiting for your take on the remake! Such an interesting game, I'm really glad people have been given a chance to check it out
Great review. Glad to see this game getting some love, honestly in the running for my GOTY. Stay well, Pelvic!
If something as obscure as Live-A-Live can see the light of day, then why not Treasure of Rudras or Terragnigma? I am holding out hope.
Awesome review! This game was such a cool, unique experience for me. I loved all the separate stories, the music, the graphics, and that true ending was just * chef's kiss *.
I'm excited to play this but I prefer the 26bit aesthetic. I'll likely skip the remake and just play the translation on my Super Console.
Yo, for some reason I kinda dig the coffee maker machine thingy's story. Guess it kinda reminds me of the RPG maker games ala Ib or Witch's House.
Oh hell yeah! I've been waiting on this review since the game launched! Love this little jrpg, and am glad more people are finally getting the chance to play it.
I thought it was pronounced Live A Live not Live A Live but maybe that's just me😂😂😂
Woman you stay reviewing games I already bought but never played LMFAO.
Really loved this game. I wish octopath traveler handled the stories like this.
Hm gotta remember to watch this after I finally play through the game in like twenty years
I love your Zelda dress in your video thumbnail. Very pretty
Game looks dope, only issue is that it's on the Switch *shakes fist in the air*
I hope that this is a hint of a Chrono Trigger possibility 🙏
Would definitely play if I had a switch :(
I'll live to play a lively lovely Live A Live
I was on the fence, but you changed my mind.
"Thus begins a classic heroic tale".
I had to stop watching this specifically because details I didn't want to know were being stated... like, I get it, you're trying to get those *not* interested to be interested... so sadly, can't actually watch this until I get the freaking game and beat it. Oh well...
Thats fair and I appreciate your feedback and support.
I've always wanted to play this one, but never could - for obvious reasons. Not even on an emulator. This is making me want to go out and get a Switch to play some of these great titles, but when you have little to no free time, it makes it hard. That and the stack of games I'm still trying to get through now would only add to the pile of stuff. I loved your review. As always, very honest, and very in-depth. Keep up the amazing work~ I look forward to the next one, but most importantly, stay safe and healthy.
This is the first time I have watched your channel and I gotta say your review is pretty great!
Solid and informative adding your own likings into the game, I´m gonna suscribe for new videos and watch your old ones too. :)
I started this, got through China, Far Future, and Edo Japan, and felt a bit underwhelmed. Sounds like I picked some of the annoying ones first, so I'll pick it back up!
Lots of good games this year! Think you'll do some kind of top 10 when the year ends?
İ just started playing this, and it looks great. İ really liked the prehistory story, it was super cute. The communication style was nice. Thanks for the video!
This game was an amazing experience for me. I had zero knowledge for the original and all the details twists and turns blow me away.
I recomend everyone to play it blind, you are for a treat.
Another great review here. I need to play the demo so I can see what I'm missing out on. Been busy lately with IRL things, but this year has been great for gaming. Long live the Switch.
Great review, actually makes me want the game when I didn't really consider it before
LIVE A LIVE is definitely GOTY for me. I’m so glad you enjoyed this game and I hope more people become aware of it.
I dont see people posting enough about this game.
A shame really
I was introduced to this game from Pat Stares At, I really liked his playthrough and I am glad you liked it🥰
Always planned on picking it up as soon as my backlog clears and this just reinforces that its the right choice.
God dam pelvic! you improved a lot! loved the video and LOVED this game! thank you!
I've been on the fence about this one, but I think I'll give it a go. The fact that it's a bunch of smaller stories in one big over arch is intriguing to me. Thanks for the review!
This was perfect timing. I was hoping you reviewed this.
Great review!!!!! Always enjoy seeing you cover jRPGs.
i know some people that weren't into it, but you definately convinced me to keep this on my backlog list. -towtansua
I got to ask as I just bought this game.
Is it "live a live" or "live alive"?
no one has any real answer so far....
BTW great video.
The way she pronounces it in the video is the actual correct way.
@@tryingtobebetter7235 But how do we know that?
@@archcrawley6357 I always based my English pronunciation on the Japanese reading of the name "ライブ・ア・ライブ" or "Raibu A Raibu". Japanese kana are generally do not represent more than one phoneme, unlike in English. That is why it is easy to figure out how it is meant to be pronounced in English if you're familiar with both languages. Luckily we now have English voice acting in games, but the name of the game is still not officially pronouced.
Helllooo there !
One of the things I loved about this game is that they got several different popular (well, popular back then) manga artists to do the art direction and character design for every segment. Gosho Aoyama (the creator of Detective Conan/Case Closed) did the art direction for the Edo Period segment. One of my personal favorites, Yumi Tamurai (creator of Basara) did the art direction for the Far Future segment. Controversially, the caveman segment was done by one Yoshinori Kobayashi, who would later become famous for his series of polemical manga about such things as...denial of the Nanjing Massacre and Korean Comfort Women (yikes).
