Hi Victoria, I've watched all of your vids but can't seem to find an answer to a question..hopefully you see this! I wondered what the difference in personality, specifically aggression and biting, between your Quaker and GCC. On a general note (I know birds are individuals) which breed bites less, which is more 'affectionate' and which one's bites hurt the most lol. Love your vids keep up the good work always entertaining to watch!! :)

It is so adorable to hear my Quaker softly practice a new word before he says it out loud. It's a little whisper for a few attempts. He also yells BUBYE when anyone leaves my house. Hello when the phone ring either on tv or my phone. Mimics whistles by refs during football games too. He enjoys the police scanner. I do believe he thinks they are speaking to him. And, real phone calls on speaker are a must for him to participate in the conversation.

My one most important piece of advice for potential/1st time birb owners... teach your birbby friend to wear a harness with a elastic leash! Never open a door or window unless they are wearing it. My beautiful blue Quaker/Monk parrot took off in the minute I opened the door to let the dogs go out. You never know when it'll happen, you'll never be fast enough to catch them and it doesn't matter how much they love you when either stress, fear or instinct kicks in. We were packing and she's been gone over 2 months, and is hundreds of miles away from our new home. I'm depressed, she was my best friend who went with me everywhere as my emotional support. She never left my shoulder. I thought her wings were too short to fly as well, but now I'll never see my grumpy, amazing, loving besty Mardi Gra again. Since I've been looking for her I've seen hundreds of people losing their birb friends too. I've only seen 2 reunited stories. I wish I could just know what happened to her, if she has a birb lover, or is in a new home. She was a chatty sweetheart, and I'll always miss my buddy. So please, no matter what your belief is clip or not, harness train your birbs!

    • @carolhartley4448
      @carolhartley4448 Рік тому +3

Yep also train them indoor free flight, cuz I was in the garage without a harness on my bird and a car backfired and he flew out of the garage, but then in flight did a u-turn and came back landed on my shoulder, talk about freaking out, omg, so sorry your bird flew away, so heartbreaking I'm tearing up just thinking how you feel😢😢😢

I love Quakers and always have. My Quaker ( she died earlier this week) was honestly the best bird I ever had. You could tell that she was MY bird, and she wouldn't touch any of my family members. They are funny little puff balls that will brighten up your day😊 I know all birds are different and all have their flaws, I would definitely recommend a Quaker to just about anyone who has the time to spend with them and enough patience to deal with them♥️♥️♥️R.I.P. I had a Quaker through the 70's, 80's & 90's. He was a amazing talker. He would hear a word once & he'll repeat it as clear as a human talking. He had a huge vocabulary & he learned using words together that fit. He was a tricksters & practical joker. He also cracked himself up when he pulled off a trick. He had a huge personality. Quakers for sure have an amazing ability to talk.

He was amazing! I had so much fun w/him. I think he had more fun tricking me & he'd laugh at me every time he got me! Once I was showering & heard people in my house which freaked me out! I turned off the water & tippi rowed out quietly & no one is there. I know I can't be losing my mind. I thought to myself, I wonder if that little shit is screwing w/me again. I turn the water back on but this time I'm standing around the corner from him. That little turd started talking & using different sounding voices to make it sound like there's more then 1 person in my house. I jumped out at him & yelled, *I caught ya*!!! He flapped his wings at me & yelled, *Stop it* oh yea? You stop it mister!! He then precedes to laugh at me!!! Oh yes, he was a true piece of work!

I have a 3 year old Quaker whom I adopted last year. The first 4 months he had biting issues. Now he is the most loving bird. He wants to be with us all the time. He even talks which sounds so cool. He mimics noises. I would love a bird talking or not talking. With a Quaker you need to learn to read his signs which are subtle to respect what he wants and no biting issues at all. I love how fluffed up he always is and grinding his beak so I know he is happy. I agree a Quaker is not for Everyone. I so much love this little creature. ❤❤

Paulie Soprano is my ``14 year old Quaker. This is his is his 3rd and FOREVER home. He's darling, affectionate and so sweet. He is a master of sound impressions like zipper noises when I pick up a pair of jeans, the snap sound of a baseball getting hit off a bat, police car sirens, and he squawks like a huge hawk when anyone approaches my house. He's my best security alarm ever. I do have to take showers with a clear plastic curtain or he will call to me and ask if I'm coming back or where are you. He also mimics chicken noises which confuses my pet hen. He is a joy and even makes kissing noises as he scrambles up my arm to perch on my shoulder to get snuggles.

I got my Quaker almost a month ago, he’s about 6 months old. He’s super sweet once he’s away from his cage but when he’s in or near his cage (or the cages that aren’t his lol) he’s very cage aggressive. He loves to walk around on the floor and sit on the windowsill! He can be very loud and he primarily “screams” at morning and evening. He did learn to mimic my budgies chirps which is cute but annoying because he does in a much louder way (he doesn’t do it often though so it’s ok) He also has a habit of picking up his fruits and veggies and dropping them on the floor and only eating a few. And besides the screaming I love the little sounds he makes.

Thank you for a very honest video. I have a Quaker that I got in august of 2016. I absolutely adore her and will not give her up for anything. That being said you are absolutely correct, even to this day I cannot go near her cage. Every time I have to change her water or give her more food I get dive bombed...LOL. Over the years I have come up with a solution to this. Every time I need to change her food, water or need to clean her cage, I take her into the bathroom and lock her in there for the 5 min it takes to clean the cage. Also she is very, very attached to me and follows me everywhere, very clingy. The great thing about her being clingy is, there have been several situations where she has gotten out of the house but she always flies back to me and never tries to fly away. As a matter of fact I can now go outside with her without worry. She will take a few laps around the house then return to my shoulder. Of course I have spent countless hours with her conditioning her to come on command. What a great bird..... I do not recommend this until you have spent time conditioning or training your bird to come to you when you ask them too.

He demands kisses, takes a nap when he sees im restin or feelin down, whenever i close my eyes just a bit to rest he makes sure im still alive (sus maybe hes planning smthin 💀) He loves singing whenever he hears music or hears me singin, he replies to me when hears me, says "hello hiii " whenever i come back from work
But damn, he loves stealin everything he sees, every night i clean out his cage n find all the things he stole 😭 he got the most expensive toys n still ...tissues will always win!

I've had 2 quaker parrots at different times in my life. I loved both of my quakers very much but the difference between the two was like night and day even though I got them from the same place and were supposedly both males. My first, was veryy nice, he got along with everyone rarely tried to nip but he wasn't a good talker at all and wasn't very noisy. He maybe learned two or three phrases in the time I had him. My second quaker, would talk your ear off. He would pick up the slightest words or noises that were repeated often enough around the house. He would even talk himself to sleep. I think he might've learned about 20 words and phrases. However, he only ever like being with me and hated being touched by anyone, my mom especially for some reason lol.

Aussie is like 2 weeks old and I’m hand feeding him or her 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 and is being treated very carefully. I already love her a lot I can’t wait for Aussie to grow up so I can play with her. 🥰💚

Hi! I have a few questions:) first of all I love Popples. I had a Quaker that was the silliest, ridiculous, loud, talked like crazy, sang and the most loving bird. I also had a peach face love bird for 23 years. Sancho my Quaker wanted so bad to love my lovebird but my lovebird wanted to kick his butt even though he was 29 times smaller! Sancho got sick in May 2019. By the time I took him to the vet it was too late. The vet was not sure what was wrong with him. He wanted to do $1000 worth of blood test after he told me that he probably would live another week. I was devastated and heartbroken😞I didn’t think it would be fair to Sancho to torture help with bloodwork. I regret not getting a autopsy on him. I didn’t think at the time of his death to do it. I was distraught and my husband took him from me 2 hours after he died in my hands. What went wrong? I just wanted to vent because he was my beloved bird. Ok my question, will you do a video on good bird care? Sancho are vegetables, loved bell pepper seeds ( it almost broke me buying a ton of bell peppers, some fruit, seeds because he would not have pellets. I feel so guilty about the seeds😞will you please include weighing your bird weekly. If I would have weighed Sancho maybe he would be alive today. He lost 1/3 of his weight since the previous visit. Also, taken precautions on on your flying off. I see post on Facebook from Parrot Station about birds flying away. Rarely do they get them back😞😞please have a UA-cam about people not getting a bird because their friends have them, they are trained. I see so many situations where a bird is dumped on some bird rescue site. Do their homework! Go to sanctuaries, foster a bird, don’t rush out and get a bird. Do your children ever express interest in birds? My granddaughter loved my birds but with Sancho had to wear a hoodie so he wouldn’t bite her ears off. I’m watching another video where you tell us not to treat a bird like a child. When you have an empty nest because your kids flew the coop your bird does fill the gap. Sancho stayed on my shoulder when I was home and that was a lot. My lovebird also lived on my shoulder, took naps with me, traveled to family get togethers and at the end of his life spent all day and evening while I recuperated from breast cancer and back surgery. He waited until I had my 4th surgery to know that I was done then died in my hands. I am so glad I had my birds spoiled. I would do anything to have them in my hands today. He was only 14 years old❤️😞

RIP to your loved ones. Losing a bird, dog , cat, etc. is just as painful as losing a family member so I can not imagine the amount of grief you must’ve endured when losing both Sancho and your lovebird 😞. I have a 6 year old Green cheek whose name is Charlie whom I have had since he was a month old, he used to sleep with me during the first year right under my neck and for a whole year I would not move during my sleep so I’d be in uncomfortable positions lol and 6 years later, even though he now has a whole family! (5 new members, they have literally taken ahold of my apartment without paying any rent). The moment he’s out of his cage he would always run and start chipping at my door as a way of “hey, I miss you! I’m here! Say hi” 😞 he’s recently been doing this often and it’s rekindled that deep love I’ve always had for him. Anyways going back to the losing a bird issue! Apart from my 6 green cheeks I also have a Sun Conure named Roxy who a year ago flew away the moment my mom was taking out the trash and she left the door open and unfortunately she flew out. The important thing to do is to act quickly ! We contacted a bird aid 911 Facebook page, and they helped us immediately on printing out LOST fliers for our beloved Roxy. We went to every nearby pet store posted them up. We were out in the street handing out fliers and believe it or not a day later we got a call saying that a family a couple of blocks away found our beloved Roxy and we raced to their home to find her there. The message her is that nothing is impossible! Never give up! Because we were going to throw the towel in and just give up but I’m glad we did not!
Warmest regards! I hope everything is well with you and rest assure your babies are somewhere out there flying their wings away in paradise 🌺

Both my parrotlet and Ringneck talk. The one thing you can do is if it sounds like Popples is repeating you. Say it back to him every time he will then realize you understand him. I know it sounds silly but that is what worked especially my Ringneck.

I have a green 3 yrs old rescue Quaker. The first 4 months were a little rough in the bite department but watching UA-cam videos about patience and body language - one day he was a changed bird and now he is the most cuddly, lovable bird I love so much. He knew some words in English and he learned some German words. As you said Victoria it doesn't matter if they talk or not. The noises he makes are funny. I never heard of a Quaker before I visited a rescue for Senegal parrots. I wanted to know about them. The rescue Lady had a boarded Quaker who was supposed to be picked up. It never was and she thought about us. That's how we came to a Quaker. He is a 2 Person bird. Or actually 3 persons. He stepped up to our 8yr old stepdaughter. She and my daughter have 4 birds. He is definitely a bird for me/us

She is trying to say words, it’s like a mic turns on but you hear part of it and the rest is chatter. I’m excited she is trying but I wouldn’t care if she never held a conversation with me. She purrs, growls, clucks and mimics whistles. She also is very loving and is a cuddles. I wouldn’t trade her for the world.

My suggestion to first time bird owners. First with the larger birds, make sure there is a possible bond between you & the bird before you purchase. I visited my Quaker Mardi Gra 6 times to interact with her before deciding. Now i did but my Conure in one day, but to explain. She jumped to the front of the cage as i walked by, chattered to me & kissed me repeatedly. So when the employee asked if i wanted to hold her I jumped on the chance. She cuddled me and kissed me the whole time. When the employee reached for her... she ran to my other shoulder. However, my family was allowed to pet her. So with Voodoo it was love at first sight. Make sure before you buy. If you see two birds that are always together loving each other & you want one. Do yourself and them a favor, get them both!

Quakers are colony birds which makes them very different in terms of their nature. There have been colonies that have had to be removed in places where they have overgrown. This may sound trivial but if you can think about how each species has evolved to have certain traits it helps to understand their nature especially when they do something that’s challenging, one can understand its inherent in them.
Quaker’s are way more gregarious when they are in groups.

Quakers are the Chihuahua of the bird world, basically. I have 1 quaker, 1 Kakariki, 2 Rosellas, 2 budgies, and 1 indian ringneck. I will only ever have 1 quaker at a time. I could have 20 kakarikis, or 20 budgies, and they would still not require as much maintenance as 1 quaker. They're one of those birds that demands attention, are aggressively affectionate, and thinks everything bad they do, is hilarious. The other birds avoid him because he's kind of an asshole. but he's my only bird that will sit on my shoulder, or let me grab him and kiss him all over. So I mean he's a pain, but be satisfies that urge I have with all my birds to grab and love on them, even though they'd prefer I didn't 😅

I got my conure first and her name is Nibbles, my quakers name is Stormy and he is so cute and fluffy. Nibbles bites me a lot and is violent but we still have kind of a “different” and closer relationship I think because for a while it was just me and her (before we got Stormy). She can be sweet but she has terrible mood swings. Stormy is so chill and he does talk a little bit even though he is 8 weeks old he says “hey” “hello” and “what are you doin?” And “owe”. He says owe a lot because he hears me say it when Nibbles bites me LOL. He also laughs, and mimicks my 9 year old daughters scream. He will not bite me or anyone no matter what we do to him! Nibbles will bite me for no reason and draw blood but I still love her and will not give up on her. My Quaker is definitely easier to take care of. My conure is a lot more active and acrobatic and just a silly little wild clown. It’s so interesting to see how different the birds are!! So awesome you have the same kind of birds!! So my sister has a Quaker parrot that she brought a few months ago. Initially he got along with all the family members but now will bite my mum and dad and not my sister and I. He doesn’t like any of the toys that we have brought for him, so that worries me because he doesn’t do much all day expect groom himself. However, he is super talkative, my sister got him nearly a year old and he already knew how to say peak a boo and now we have taught him how to say no. I just am so unsure with how to train and raise him. Apparently whoever had him first ‘hacked’ his wings so we went to our local bird world and the owner said we will have to wait 6 months for his wings to grow out until we can clip them. So now he flies away a lot when he doesn’t like something. Also could you please give me advice on potty training a Quaker parrot if we are even able too? And what time should we put them to bed? I’m defiantly learning one step at a time but it’s hard. I know he loves me, always talking to me and giving me kisses though

Welcome to the cutest squad ever!!! Just a warning: never buy them plastic/nylon toys or those beds made with fabric (for the latter, you can create one with organic materials such as straw or similar). Parrots like to destroy their toys and that is why is it always better to give them wooden toys. They cannot digest plastic, nylon or any other kind of fabric. It is advisable for you to not give any non-wood to them, since it may cause their death. As for food, make the bird ingest veggies and fruits; NEVER PARSLEY...IT IS POISONING. You will notice which veggies/fruits your birdie like the most; if some food cause them diarrhea, avoid it (my Amazon parrot, for example, cannot digest cherries well). Dry fruits, non-sweet cookies, crunchy bread are food you must check if your birdie like. Gregory (my parrot) likes cereal cookies (or crunchy cookies) but I first have to soak them in warm water because he likes it that way 😂 Each birdie is an unique miracle and with time, love and patience, you will be able to create a strong bond with yours. If your birdie is able to talk, try to teach it easy sounds at first and then incorporate words and sentences. Put them some music to see how they react to several melodies (my Gregory likes jazz because of the wind instruments' whistly sound and the singers' voice). Wish you the best in this beautiful journey of being a birdie parent. Hope you can share some videos of your birdie 💞 Hugs!!!

Nice video! Your birds are super cute and funny! What kind of bird is Yoshi? First off I want to say that I love birds but have had some bad experiences with certain species of pet birds. I know a conure but not the type. My uncle and aunt had one like Yoshi and she was EVIL !! Would fly across the room just to land on the couch and bite the hell out me for no reason at all! Bite and draw blood. Would dive bomb me and my sisters and bite any chance she got. Screamed constantly around us. Not that they're all bad. I was in eleventh grade. Sisters were in middle school. Didn't help that all of us and my mother long dark hair and everyone else in the house had short lighter colored hair. They had a sun conure too who was just as mean and ten times as loud. Gorgeous bird though. I personally had a green Quaker Parrot up until I was forced to rehome him. It broke my heart. I got him as a cute fat little fuzz ball and I would feed him seed gruel two or three times a day. He would cuddle up under my chin in bed and chirp at me. Never had a big vocabulary but said a few things. Loved to dance and chirp to music. Was really loveable and sweet till a year and a half to two and then puberty hit. Went completely crazy and got mean. Would bite every chance he got even when I went to change his food and water and I couldn't handle him anymore. Would do what I call a war dance. Hunch over partly spread his wings fluff up as big as possible and shuffle from side to side and growl and bob his head. . Would bite if I tried to get close to his cage. When I had to move back in with my mom and sisters mom made me rehome him so she didn't have to hear his noise. Went behind my back and told her friend from work her son could have him. I never forgave my mom for that. If I had been ready to have my own place might still have him. So yeah that sucks. Sorry for the super long comment. Hope you make it through Quaker Parrot puberty in one piece! Later! 😀😀

If my quaker was a human, he would be the one who keep cursing at everyone for no reasons.
Why? My uncle once joked and said « f* f* f* » to him and now he likes the word.

my mom had one a while back. was green. first got it. it was acting... weird... kinda bi-polar one second was happy than out of nowhere would snap and be kinda mean and aggressive. than just one day its attitude changed while in his cage if you open the door he would hop at the bottom and pace around. you try to reach at him he would be supper aggressive and try to attack. BUT once you got him out. was super nice. defatinly was a weird bird. i think there was some abusive owners previously. considering in getting one and raising it from an egg myself.

Conures are so loud.i thougjt quackers were all green didnt know about blue ones. Thats why i named my quacker walker because he cracked me up when he walked around. Your also right about quackers only have relationship with 1 person. Mine flies towards and attacks anyone who isnt me. He also has a vocabulary of 12 words along with laughing and singing along with a few songs.

Enjoy watching videos of the Quaker Parrot. Mine past away in 1992. They have a distinctive squawk I can't forget. I went on a business trip to Fort Lauderdale in 1998. While strolling along the beach I heard that "squawk" I looked up at the palm trees and saw several quakers. Discovered later this bird species have colonies all over the US.

I ve had a Quaker and can do nothing with him at all if I go near him he hides in a corner or flies away. He won't play with any toys or even take food from me. He shrieks most of the time.he lives outside of his cage and won't move from there to go on the perches I bought him . I'm at a loss.😢

Does he weave? I worked in a pet store and the Quaker Parrots would always tear paper in streams and weave them in between the bars of the games.
