What you see before you is an incredible, original 1943 Martin D-28 with Herringbone binding. While America was well and truly involved in WW2 by 1943 - the term ‘Pre War’ denotes a specific quality, design and materials that Martin were able to maintain until 1944. This is the same model that Gerry Garcia and Hank Williams played. It is a truly significant piece of musical history. Not only that but it is a beautiful guitar to play. Incredibly light construction with serious mid range projection. A real 'banjo killer' as they say. I felt very lucky to be able to play this instrument. It is recorded using a single Telefunken (Neumann) U47 microphone, shot on a Canon EOS R6. I hope you enjoy!
My life is unquestionably better having heard this
Nice sentiment. My life too.
I'm touched! Thank you very much. I'm glad to have been able to assist in some way :)
Ditto
I came to this video because the title referred to a special guitar, but what I received was a really amazing vocal and fingerstyle performance.
Thank you! It’s such a fun song to play. I find that really helps when it’s enjoyable
Oh that classic vintage instantly recognizable Martin 28 sound. You can hear that sound a mile away. Nice chords, beautiful playing.
They wrote the book on acoustic guitar, and this '43 sure is testament to that.
Great job! There's a Martin guitar and then there's everything else. How incredible is it that we lived in a time when we had Martin guitars to play.
I'll say. I always come back to Martin. They got it right the first time!
I couldn't have said it better myself, Ken!!!!!
Once I was shopping for an acoustic guitar, the salesman showed me a couple and said one was "just like a Martin."
There is nothing like Martin.
@@jimlocke8281 If I remember right, I was told in my youth that an Epiphone guitar was a Japanese was a copy of a Martin guitar. Anyone know?
That’s one of the best versions of Don’t Think Twice I’ve ever heard - well done, man.
Thanks so much Daniel!
Go find Joe Robinson. He owns it as well.
Incredible player!! Nice balance brother!
@@daningram3143 thank you Dan!
It is seriously good
Took me back 30 odd years in an instant. Smile on my face and a tear in my eye.
Thank you.
Hey Bob, that means a lot to me bud. That's really what music does best. Glad I could be of assistance!
That gem of a guitar is in very good hands. 👍
Very kind of you to say. Its a lovely guitar indeed.
What an inspiring rendition of Bob Dylan's Don't think Twice! You play and sing it beautifully on this wonderful old Martin D-28. Every note sings! Thanks for sharing @Jordan Thomas
That’s so kind of you to say! It’s particularly inspiring when you get to play on such a fabulous instrument. It seems to take over in a way.
@@Jordan_Thomas You are welcome! And thanks. I agree about a fine instrument's ability to take over :)
I play a Martin 000-18 and feel powerful inspiration, although she is much younger than this fine 1943 D-28 Gentleman that you are playing!
@@cherpendarvis-studios Oh I can relate. I have a 2012 OM-28 that I can't walk past without picking up to play. The perfect device to while away the hours.
What a time less Classic, and gotta say nice playing, many thanks, just ole Don here from Hamilton NZ 😊
@@susanroycroft89 Kia ora, compadre!
Gorgeous guitar! Easily as good an example of hybrid picking as I've ever seen. Very nice vocals too! Bravo!
Thank you, Ron! I appreciate that. I can't really do it any other way :)
Simply, top shelf! Tune, tone, timing and taste! Admiring from West Michigan.
Real kind of you to say, Dan. Inspiring guit boxes like this tend to bring out the best in your playing. Stick around! I'll upload another one soon
Holy Moly.
Simply THE most expressive guitar playing I've ever heard, the depth of the gentle dynamics, the clarity, yet the fullness - man, this is poetry.
That really means a lot. Thanks for the kind words :)
Great covers don’t only sound great, but make you feel feels. Excellent cover and even better playing.
Cheers Joe! Good feels are good! I appreciate it
Wicked! One of the best versions of 'Don't Think Twice' I've ever heard. Thank you Jordan.
Thank you Dave! I really appreciate that!!
In addition to the stellar guitar and very nice voice, Jordan captured the slightly ambiguously wistful attitude of the lyric well in a way that many don't.
@@brutusadmirer8043 I'm glad you picked up on that. Some people have said that my take didn't have the emotion that it aught to. I think it needs the ambiguity, it feels like the mind hasn't totally been made up how they feel about the situation, not happy, not sad, just kinda figuring it all out.
Wonderful. What a tone, in the hands of a master.
Very flattering of you to say. Thank you!
What a wonderful rendition !
I appreciate that Billie. Thanks!
WOW !!!! AMAZING !!! SIMPLY AMAZING ! MY GUITARS JUMPED OFF THE WALL AND RAN OUT THE DOOR !!! I DOUBT THEY WILL BE BACK???? Hey Jordon a couple came back . Yippee !!!
Haha! Nooo they must come back! Don’t let them be jealous. All guitars need to be played!
Great version of that iconic Dylan song from a super talented individual, and I'm sure you feel lucky to play (and show honor to) an amazing guitar like that!
Oh very much so. Yes its such an inspiring instrument to play :)
I was just blown away by Billy Strings' version but this is also outstanding.
Billy's is just so damn good. I'm honored to have that comparison drawn. Thank you!
@@Jordan_Thomas This is not far from the level of Billy's... and i love your small variations as well.
Love how you handled the final verse! Excellent playing, terrific voice. The guitar is gorgeous.
Thanks Mike! I think it’s okay to open the throttle a little in the last first 😬
Hot damn this is good. From the jazzy intro to the bounce of the fingerpicking to the voice and that almost-ragtime turnaround between verses…just great. What a take on a classic!
I appreciate that, Lance. I have a bit of a jazzy disposition. Can't help it I guess!
Awesome cover, thanks for posting this, and great unique pick and finger picking, all sounds incredible.
Zimmerman hey? Any relation? Yep my style is a little odd but I can get it to work alright!
My heart vibrates and calms down with each chord! You always amazing Jordan!
That's such a lovely thing to say, Roberta. Thank you!
Mate, this is the most impressive fingerpicking and vocals combination I have seen on youtube. What an amazing guitar, and cover. Please - do more!
UA-cam is a big place, so that's a heck of a compliment. Thanks Jacob!
That what was one of THE best intros to this song I have ever heard phenomenal playing and arranging!
Much obliged, mr Squared. That's the beauty of finding a song you like. You just keep playing and honing it until something nice happens. I very much enjoy playing this arrangement.
Outstanding! Your playing and singing have created in my opinion one of the best versions of this song. Bravo.
By the way, that guitar is amazing.
You are very kind! I didn't mean to, I just enjoy playing it. I'm glad everything worked out :)
Terrific rendition! Loved the inversions and the runs. Great vocals too!
Kind of you to say, David! Encourages me to keep pickin'!
Gave me chills! Excellent!
You're very kind, Don. Thank you!
You killed it Jordan!!! Both musically & vocally!!! Great stuff :)
That's very kind of you to say! Thanks Mark :)
Fantastic vocals. And that D-28! Never heard a better sounding one.
It’s like an orchestra in the shape of a guitar this. The resonances are alarming!
That’s what Beethoven said I read one time a guitar is like having a full orchestra at your fingertips. What a sound
Absolutely wonderful 👏👏👏👏
Thank you Paul! 😁
The guitar sounds amazing! Nothing like a classic guitar. Such a rich, mellow sound. Thanks for sharing!
Rich and mellow are the words alright. And so very loud. I wish it were mine, but I can’t afford the 60k USD price tag!!
Cold chills, 3 times! Absolutely unequalled. BRILLIANT!
Thank you Gerald. I really appreciate that!
Congratulations, terrific performance, not to mention the beautiful sound of your Martin. Good music Frank....😉🤘
Thank you Frank!
My favorite rendition I've seen so far!! Singing is fantastic and your playing on that amazing guitar is other-worldly!!
Hey Brad, thanks a bunch! Other-wordly, that ain't too bad!
That’s the complete package. Wow wow wow.
Thank you compadre!
That's by far the best cover of Dylan's song that I've ever heard! The melodious sound of the guitar arrangement is indescribably beautiful!!! His voice is so mellow! What outstanding musicianship!!!
Barbara that is so kind of you to say! I really appreciate that.
Awesome guitar, awesome playing, great voice, a pleasure to listen, thank you 🙏🙏
Best version of this song i've heard

what a wonderful rendition of a miraculous song on a marvelous guitar. Congrats from a french fan of Dylan, of guitars, and now of you👍🇫🇷
Thank you very much. Yes that guitar is so marvelous. Very inspiring to play. Hard to put down, which is a good thing!
Very well done- professional, even! Kudos!
Very kind of you to say. Cheers, James!
he knows all the chords.
Check out guitar Jord 😬
@@Jordan_Thomas sneaky Knopfler reference😉
And where to put them
An old guitar is all he can afford!
Yes. He surely does
Oh my Gosh!, how beautiful!
You're not kidding. Thanks Danny!
Playing, singing and guitar all top notch. Nice!
Hey thanks so much Brian!!
I’ve just read many of your comments, and I’m thinking that (though no one seems to have mentioned this), while I’m pretty sure I have seen other combine the flat pick and finger picking before, I’ve never seen anyone do it as well as you have here. Just wow! Also great singing and great song choice.
Thank you John. I've had my trials and tribulations with this method. As a youngster I would watch Chet Atkins picking with ease and think to myself "Why can't I sound like that?" the mechanics of the thumb pick style has its advantages, but I've found a way to get around it I think.
Is it hybrid picking, any way you call it is amazing
Clatrence White used it on Footrprints in the snow on Muleskinner
love those old Martin's.
love that song.
Love it! World Class!
Thank you very much!
La più bella di UA-cam…
Incredibile guitar ❤!!! 💣💣
Thank you very much!
Beautiful guitar with a magical sound!
Its a really special instrument. Inspiring to play

Marvelous!!✨✨🎶💕👍👍
Marvelous is good! Thank you Sam
Fantastic tone on that old D-28. Crisp as an apple.
Not bad is it? This thing is LOUD too!
@@Jordan_Thomas That guitar is a light touch like my 72 D-35. No need to be baging on em anymore.
Awesome
One of my fav all time songs. The genius of Bob Zimmerman. Martin sounds perfect.
Its an exceptional guitar! Thanks for stopping by :)
My musician daughter rightly says that everyone does Dylan better than Bob, but this is right at or near the top of the heap of so many great covers of this song. Especially for a solo performer.
As a life long Dylan fan that interpretation was awesome! Loved your guitar skills, a little bit too pacey for me but man you nailed it all.
Cheers Mr Headroom. I often listen back and realize I'm going a little quick. Just rolls off the fingers that way I guess!
Fantastic!
Hey cheers Nick!
Refreshing! Top tier.
Cheers Eddie! 🐆
God. Ch
I think so! Maybe?
That’s the best cover of this tune I’ve ever heard.
Kind of you to say, Gary. Thank you :)

Hey cheers Jonny. I do appreciate the encouragement. I’ll try and make some more vids!
Dylan could not have done it better. Bravo, sir. Bravo.
Don't tell Dylan! ha!
Brilliant cover...
Subscribed because there's something special in the way you sing and play. Awesome!
Well that means a lot to me, Christopher. I hope I retain that for future performances. Thanks!
I really enjoyed that! Outstanding. Thank you!
I really appreciate that! Thanks heaps :)
I could tell
From the first note-this is an old D-28-my dad had a 1945 D-28-such a warm and mellow tone!and it’s enhanced by your skillful playing-just such a lovely rendition on the best instrument-well done.
I really appreciate you saying this. Thank you very much :)
What a beautiful performance!
You’re very welcome. Thank you!

Absolutely fantasic.
Vocals and guitar plus arrangement spot on.
I have forwarded this to my timeline which has many guitarist friends.
That's awesome Dennis. I really appreciate you sharing my music. Thanks a lot!
DUDE! That is GOOD!!!! And this is my favorite song of all time to play, and I've watched at least 500 covers. Appreciate you. Singing is beautiful too. Getting Chet Atkins and Doc Watson vibes.
Chet and Doc are good company to be in! And yes I love both of those pickers. It’s just the most fun tune to play. It never feels like work, practicing songs like this one.
Oh yes! Beautiful ☺👍
Cheers, Dom!
the guitar sounds brand new.... never underestimate...the power of new strings...very nice
And never underestimate a $60,000 guitar! Nice bit of kit.
Incredible playing!!! This was fantastic!
I appreciate that Dave, thank you!
Stunning. Thanks
Cheers Les!
Wow !
Thank you, George!
Wow! So good!
Hey thanks Peter! Nice of you to stop by :)
FANTASTIC VERSION of this classic. Great voice, amazing playing and the guitar is stunning!!!!
It is truly an amazing guitar. Very inspiring to play. Quite different from later 40s/50s ones I've had a chance to get my mitts on. So dry, bright and LOUD!
@@Jordan_Thomas You really need to play some Reverend Gary Davis on that guitar. "I'll Be Alright" and "I Am the Light of This World" like Jorma's versions on Quah.
@@ZZSmithReal I’ve not heard these songs! I will investigate
BRAVO!🎉❤💕
Cheers Edward!
That was incredible in every level!!
Cory! Thank you compadre
