I took anatomy in high school and LOVED it! Then I took chemistry and absolutely hated it. I’m planning on becoming a PA, but pretty nervous about taking chem and organic chem in college 😬
I was in your boat. I absolutely hate chem and physics in college but I love anatomy. I'm in my third year and I'm taking organic chem 2, physics 2, and genetics this semester and I have to say the only class I enjoy is genetics. It's hard to stay motivated when you aren't taking classes that you love, but you just have to remember that it'll be worth it in the long run.
I’m currently a senior!! I have been interested in being a PA. This was really helpful because they’re so many requirements that each school is different . Thanks so much!!
For PA and MD any major will get u there u just need the prerequisites and that's it. But I say do science related majors. The best major is a major u love, and can get a job in right of undergrad God forbid PA school doesn't work out or there are some delay so u can have something to fall back on
I hated science in the classroom however EMT school showed me how science applies to medicine and now I really enjoy science classes. I dropped A&P in high school and took EMT and I recomend that to those who are interested in healthcare but aren’t to hot on sciences.
i don’t know if you’ll see this but if you do can you answer my question! So i’m aiming to be a PA but i am still in high school, So when you said try being certified in something(CNA or EMT) do you recommend to take classes when i graduate high school and start immediately or do it while i’m still in college & also to be certified in EMT or CNA do i have to volunteer/work in some places or do i just have my certificate for completing the classes. I hope that made sense...
You have to work as an emt get some experience then continue, or volunteer as one but I. Other words use the license! Don't just keep it on your wallet
@@JamesKim oh! So how do I get just the PA qualifications or do we start out as PA S? Is it like med school where passing the mcat automatically makes you an MD?
Hey! One of the biggest reasons was the flexibility to switch specialties throughout my career. I would say that I like to try new things/get bored of redundancy so I really liked that aspect. Minus the title of "doctor", I still can do a lot of the same things as a physician in an outpatient setting. Also had more positive interactions with PAs!
Yes! Anything in the sciences will help if you are going into the medical field. Most colleges accept 4s/5s, but don’t worry, there are still colleges that accept a 3, since it is passing. If you on the Pre-Health/Pre-Medical track, you will most likely have to take this course again if the college credit does not count. Good luck and great job! 🙂
I’m in community college...I plan to transfer to a 4-year college however, I don’t know what to major in. Do I have to major in a science related field? And yes, I do plan to take the PA route.
mirna urbina u don’t have to major in a science related major. It is just easier to bc most of classes within science majors also satisfy the pre-reqs for PA school. If u decide not to major in a science then u would just have to make sure that u complete the PA school pre-reqs to qualify.
@@JamesKim Thanks! I'm applying to colleges and I'm kinda conflicted about my major because theres nothing that really calls out to me. I'm confident in doing any science major but :/..Ik this is probably a hard question to answer but do you have any recommendations for undecided people like me? I can't go undecided because internal transfers are ridiculously hard at my first choice of school.
I’m in high school myself and you’ll likely have to retake them. However it’s great you’re taking them now so as to get a get a good idea of each and have some background knowledge for when you retake the class in college
I'm a college freshman, and my college has a health science major In addition to biology and other sciences. Would you recommend doing Health Sciences or Bio?
James Kim Okay i will! I never thought about being a PA until I watched your videos. I am a junior in high school, and I’m applying to become a hospital volunteer this summer. I will also shadow a few PAs to make sure this is what I want to do. Thanks again!
I’m a junior in high school right now I’m going to graduate high school as a medical assistant. I’m planning to become a RN and then CRMA PA or NP. Haven’t decided yet though.
Hi!!! I’m an upcoming senior in high school taking AP Bio and Anatomy. College already might be expensive for me so are the CNA, EMT etc. programs that I should involve myself with costly. And would I be able to complete a program by the end of my last summer before college or will it take longer?
I know you can do EMT programs full time (8 hours x 5 days a week) and it takes about three weeks total. So it’s possible. I’ve found that those programs are a little more expensive. And not for nothing, it can be quite a bit of information to try to learn in 3 weeks. I would definitely recommend doing it sooner rather than later, so you can maybe work part time or during the summers. Also, in my town you can get a scholarship that covers most of the costs if you write them an essay.
Hey James I am working full-time while I'm an undergraduate right now, is it possible to still work full-time while I'm getting my bachelor's, I have to pay for everything my self or should I try to find some way to get financial aid once I get accepted to a bigger school, cause I am at a community college right now, thanks!
Hi James! I'm a sophomore in high school and an upcoming junior this forthcoming fall, I lately became interested in becoming a PA this year. I recently sign for Dual Credit which means I'll be writing numerous of essays, so I was thinking would you recommend/advice me to AP English or AP Physics ( since you said taking science classes were recommended) ? I'm just very indecisive with classes I should take for high school because I don't know what will be best for me if I want to pursue my career as a PA. I also never taken a AP classes which makes me anxious since I feel like there's so much expectation, so that's why I wanted to ask for your opinion. I would greatly appreciate it if you really reply, thank you

Arnold Ramirez Dimas No worries bro, even if you took AP Bio Or AP Chem you still have to take them at the college level for it to count. Look into PA schools and their prerequisite courses and you can have any major, but make sure you take the pre reqs.
hi there, i’m a sophomore in college right now and i literally didn’t know what i wanted to do until last year (my freshman year in college). in hs i didn’t take ANY Ap classes/almost did not graduate so i had to transfer to an alternative school. although i think taking those certain classes will help in college, it’s really not necessary unless you are trying to show a certain undergrad college your stats. but the fact that you are thinking about the pa route this early is so beneficial for you. keep researching and asking questions :) you will go far if you learn what you need every year.
Fore high school students, I would recommend to look into direct entry PA programs which are 5 years long. These programs are designed for high school students applying for college. The first 3 years are undergrad while the last 2 years are PA school as long as the students meet the requirements. Did korean universities have pA program?

bestcity097 PA-C the C stands for Certified (once you pass the national boards), PA-S stands for PA Student!

Start volunteering at a local hospital or look for healthcare providers that you can shadow!

is Physics necessary to take in High School? Will it look good in College app or does it even matter?
I am not sure if it in necessary. It may depend on your high school and/or colleges you are applying to. I actually am not sure sorry :/
Usually the required courses tend to be Biology, Chemistry and Physics
Omg! Just what I needed! Thanks for the advice and information!
Is it true that you have to have experience when applying to PA school? Or can I just complete it without experience?
MR. SUCC NUGGET most need experience and quite a bit of it (many people take gap years just to fulfill their health care and patient care experience)
What are the PA prereqs
