Thank you so much. I will practice this since i cant do tumble turns because of vertigo. I end up vomitting and disoriented after every turn. So i guess i'll have to stick to open turns

I lost my 50 SCM butterfly race by just 0.2 sec few days ago because of sluggish open turn.

I'm sorry to hear that Eugene, but this video is perfect timing. Let the loss motivate you! 💪

I just started learning how to do an open turn in case I’m learning Butterfly and Breaststroke from the beginning, it takes practice to get a perfect open turn, thank you for showing me that!

One thing that you demonstrate beautifully but only mentioned briefly is how you keep your head down, eyes looking down into the wall. Very nicely done!

Why do you bend your elbow when you get to the wall?
    1) you are giving yourself less space to get your feet to the wall (crowding the wall).
    2) you much travel a farther distance into the wall to start your turn.
I have always taught my swimmers to stay away from the wall. Now, I understand that your speed and momentum will continue to carry you to the wall and you will have some bend in the elbow.

I think you are spot on in your analysis Grant! With the confidence to know that your feet will follow, by bending your elbows at the wall you absorb the momentum that you are bringing in and can finesse the movements of the turn to then be quicker and snappier off the wall. This leads to more speed AND power ready to explode off🏊‍♂️💪

When they push of the wall, they are in the middle of the water . Idk when I push off , I ‘m still at the surface of water . 😂

Is the fly to back IM open turn much different for you than the fly to fly turn shown here?
