Having this channel as a resource for help is such a blessing, I almost don’t realize how lucky I am sometimes. Maybe this channel didn’t exist 10 years ago (when I needed it), but it does now, and I’m thankful as hell for it.
When I see Dr K post a video, I DESIRE to click. But in all seriousness, what a great way of explaining such a universal principle. This concept has popped up all throughout human history in various philosophies, religions, and esoteric teachings and Dr. K is spitting that modern wisdom once again. The way I've heard the principal applied recently is to consciously avoid saying "I need/want (blank1)" And instead replace it with "I have (blank2)". Blank1 and blank2 are equivalent but not identical meaning blank2 is something you already have which satisfies the desire for blank1. In other words, It's a way of not only acknowledging and expressing gratitude for what you already have, but also acknowledging all the resources and possibilities at your fingertips you just have to reach out and grab. In short, by literally replacing "I need" with "I have" in your vocabulary, You kind of force yourself into your present circumstances which not only make you more grateful but also make you more aware of all the possibilities that go unseen when desires are your driving force.
First time being so early but, might as well use it to say I appreciate your work Dr. K and the whole Healthy Gamer team y'all an amazing source of support! Keep it up, much love! 🙏
I’m lucky that my desires aren’t material - I do well with women, I am lucky I have great friends, a loving mother, and a solid career foundation. My desire is sobriety from chemicals, and I’ve found this desire to be soul-crushing… You desire the substance, and then desire to never desire the substance again, in an endless loop. Never wanted something AND wanted to NOT want something so strongly at the same time.
I try to imagine how it would be without something I have, and my life without Dr K would be so much emptier and worse! Thank you so much, your help is priceless 💚
Really good one. I just watched a Theory of Samsara video where he talks about the same thing so I feel like this is definitely something I need to hear and actualize
Free from desire, mind and senses purified… free from desire, mind and senses purified…free from desire, mind and senses purified…free from desire… na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na…
Firstly, I'm not sure if "gratitude" is the best word to describe it, because it downplays (even totally ignores) your role in getting what you have. You should have gratitude for people that helped you, but can be proud with the fact that you earned it. Later word "content" is used, which I think works better then gratitude in terms of alternative to desire. Secondly - why not both? Why not be content with what you already have, but also desire to have more? Eventually you end up having a lot more things to be content about.
That's a contradiction, you cannot be content with what you already have, yet desire to have more. If you want more than what you already have, it means you are not content with what you already have. You're not "extra" content by having more things to be content with. If you only need one thing to be happy, requiring 100 things to be happy doesn't make you happier. In fact, requiring 100 things to be happy means you are liable to suffer when life inevitably changes and you lose half the things you needed to be happy.
Count your blessings and you will see what [has been] done. Having what you want doesn't make you happy. However, wanting what you have will help you change your mindset. EDIT: It's easier on the wallet too!
I think similarly. I have in mind these things that having a partner would do for me, but in reality a partner will give me little to none of that. I am more satisfied being with myself.
@RogerWilcoWTF resetting the synapsis makes sense, thanks, but still doesnt work for me, im still too grateful for everything no matter what amount of meditation
Ironically, my desires only seem to turn on when I'm in a happier place. When I'm not, I have little desire for anything, even the desire to be in a happier place. I guess I'm "content" and just don't care about anything.
as someone who is logical, there are so many paradoxes. If i have a purpose in my life, it's because i have a goal and chasing that goal and getting closer gives me fulfilment, purpose. If i don't have a desire for that goal, then wouldn't my life just become empty? hollow? i get that i would suffer less, but wouldn't i also prevent me from feeling the happiness of getting what i searched for? if there is no reason to live, because i can just negate my reason to keep living, what's the point, you just die? Maybe you should be more clear about how to choose what you are able to ignore and what you allow yourself to chase? where do you draw the line, is the point of our existance to not care if we exist or not? Maybe the true answer is in the middle, maybe you should teach yourself to want things but not need them, like it's ok if you didn't get them because you are strong enough to be without them?
My guess is wanting is creating too high expectations, while having/humility keep you on realistic expectations. The high expectations can create big emotionnal investment, so it can be very good but it can be very bad. While the other method keep your head cool, less emotionnal. Add the fact social networks does reinforce the wanting part a lot.
I wonder if people with Alzheimer's get to do the want/get loop for "Free" because every day they forget, then they see a sick car in the driveway or something and go " :O that's mine?!"
Is it OK to laugh at Buddhist College perfecter's that compliably miss the point in a Dalai Lama speech? It's not - the stone or ripple effect. It's the Distance between Here and There and how far the stone fly's. The hole room Laughed!
I actually feel so bad for people who didn’t get access to the internet and can understand how to master different aspects of life, life is TOUGH!! We have Dr K, praise jesus (or Buddha! :) ), these top tips help me navigate life and Dr K is always in a good mood! ☺️😊
It's extremely rare that involvement in anything online offers "community" whether its red pill or a hobby related thing or whatever, the latter is at least a bit more useful ig... nothing wrong with talking to people online but don't go into anything thinking you're joining a community or will get social/esteem needs met that way

Having stance. Nice.

I've never really appreciated how well structured your videos are, they're easy to understand and I love that there is always a tip to try
Woo-hoo! Our editing team rocks - super glad to hear that this video structure is working so well for you!
Sometimes you just drop these lil videos about something I really need to hear. I thank you and the universe

This is hands down one of the best YT channels ever. Thank you Dr K for your gift to the world.
i've realized it's all a perspective shift... but easier said than done
might explain the moodiness... top of the world and suddenly bottom the world :/ focus shifted.
It just takes practice, making things a habit it hard at first
This is the explanation of the "gratitude" advice. The underlying feeling is to remove wants, and being grateful is one way to remove wants
Another clairvoyant post from Dr. K
I'm giving into my desire to watch this video. Hopefully, I'll be able to control that desire next time.
Next time we got this.
Same bro :( literally clicked this video even though I wasn’t done listening to the last one. When will it end??
I’m going over my screen time limit that I set by watching this video
@@k8i324 buy his course it might change
okay but if you control that desire then you had a desire to control that desire and that desire controlled you

What a great topic right now

Dr K coming in with the most perfectly timed video ever.
I try to imagine how it would be without something I have, and my life without Dr K would be so much emptier and worse! Thank you so much, your help is priceless 💚
Desires are like the skies, fleeting and ever-changing.
Man having watched this video was super awesome!!!

Vibes for real
We should be okay with nothing, so when anything good happens, we always feel better

dr K be like HeLL YEaH bRoTheRRRrRRRrRRRr
He do be like that sometimes
Yes, but I want to get my first car so bad... (Preferably a BMW 320i E90 LCI)
How to conquer our desires? Conquer our failures.
Damn ur channel is growing so much bro
Great video, it's funny because I was just reflecting on this topic recently.
Once you've made a home in "having mode", work on shifting into BEING MODE.
Count your blessings and you will see what [has been] done.
Having what you want doesn't make you happy. However, wanting what you have will help you change your mindset.
EDIT: It's easier on the wallet too!
In a chapter right now where iam overcoming my desires for external affirmations and porn/drug addiction. Thanks doctor k for the roadmap
So Even desire to get into a good clg and studying for that wrong?
Where to put a mark between correct and wrong desires
True. I have little to no desire and it makes it so that there is no reason to work hard or even continue to take care of myself.
May or may not be first. Not that it matters, just wanted to comment
I am thankful for what i have and who i am, but i am still a human and crave for a girlfriend so bad :/
No.lie brother
What exactly does a girlfriend can give you? It's not a food that could get rid of that "craving"
@@mxwitcher can you make your point more clear
I think similarly. I have in mind these things that having a partner would do for me, but in reality a partner will give me little to none of that. I am more satisfied being with myself.
So what happens when you desire a fulfilling life, wife, and kids?
Hey cool video
So early I have the chance to be top comment but I haven’t watched the video. Already know it’s gonna be good tho. Shoutout DrK
It’s like an Easter egg relating new things Dr.K says with other things he’s said
15:05 What. No. I thought this was how it worked! I'VE BEEN LIED TO
Back to Tik Tok I guess
👋
And what about the other way around? How do one shifts the wanting stance on?
Meditation 🧘🏻

You’re only as wealthy as you are grateful.

i want the desire to last

True. My dad is content with watching the same video over and over and it is always exciting to him.
pause the video around 00:38. you can thank me later 😄🤷
15:02 Exactly the same cope as when people say, "I don't lift weights because I don't wanna look like Ronnie Coleman" nor could you ever.
