Hi, my name is Emi. I'm born in raise in small town just outside Quebec City, this is where my lovely accent comes from. My #vanlife story starts in September 2018. After a long-term relationship that I was trying for more than a year to rebuild, I decided it was time to end this toxic relationship once for all. This is where I decided to move away from this man that I was still in love with. I put all my belongings inside my SUV (GMC Jimmy) and moved six hours from where I was living. I didn’t know where I would sleep, didn’t know where I would work, but I knew I needed to make a drastic move. At that time, I told myself I would only sleep in my car for a month while looking for a place to rent. What I didn’t know is that one month became another month and another month. In the end, I end up sleeping in my car for a full year. Even if people consider this the lowest time of my life, this experience was the best thing I couldn’t have done with my life. I took that year to focus on myself, decide what I wanted, and most importantly, what I didn’t want. That year made me also realize that for so long, I was chasing the wrong dreams. I was chasing what society wanted me to be: to have a big house, a steady job, kids, get married… None of those dreams was making me happy. In September 2019, while I was actively looking for a van, I received a phone call that someone had found my cat (Kelly). After trying for hours with no success to communicate with my ex-boyfriend (who was taking care of her), I decided to drive the six hours to go pick her up. Without going into too much detail, it turns out he wasn’t able to take care of her anymore. So I brought her in a cat kennel for a couple of days until I found a van we both could live in. I put all the savings that I had accumulated while living in my car and bought my van (a 2011 Ford Econoline that I end up adding a hightop) In the beginning, It wasn’t so glamour. My cat and I were sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the van. We both had to adjust. Now, my cat loves this lifestyle as much as I do; she looks at the window while I’m driving, and she loves exploring new places. Since then, my cat Kelly and I have been living full-time in my self convert van.
For those that think you shouldn’t spend $$$ on aesthetics, this is your home and your place of employment. It should be pleasing to you & your viewers. Many of your subscribers , including myself, enjoying watching your renovations. The white ceiling has really brightened up the space. Oh, and the labor is free!!!! You have done an incredible job of growing your channel.

I agree just cause you live in a van doesn’t mean you don’t want it to look nice.

Its your home that just happens to be a van. Why wouldn't you want to make it homey and cute as well as do important stuff like better insulation etc. Some people say the silliest things that make you go "huh"? Its looking great and can't wait to see the finished product.

In a microhome aesthetics DO matter. It's easier to ignore something that bugs you when its not in your face every minute or the day.

Great job Emi and Kitty on making the van your home and more comfortable / nice for you. Nothing wrong with customizing it to your liking - after all, you are the one living in it and spending your time in it, especially in the dark, long chilly nights of winter. In Canada, you really do need insulation and between the drying cold, humidity, and heat waves, your wood also needs to be protected, so I’m glad you are taking care of your infrastructure and that it happens to look nice, cozy and brighter in the process. ❤
I love all you’ve done Emi….only one disagreement…I LOVED your gray and white comforter with the roses and certainly never thought of it as “ old lady looking”. It was a lovely, soft design. I also love the new one, it is one of my favorite colors. I’m an artist and they both appeal to me very much.

The first thought that crossed my mind when you talked about somebody saying you don't need to make it nice inside was, well, why the heck not if it makes you happy!! It's psychologically a really good sign of good mental health. If somebody cares that the environment they live in looks nice to them. It's your a place of peace you make it as beautiful as you want. I love what you have done it's personal to you it's beautiful, It's light and airy and at the same time cozy ... It is absolutely worthy to create something uniquely your home!! It's wonderful you should celebrate your creativity and accomplishment!!

Personally, I can tell that you enjoy doing all these projects on your own, and I admire that so much. I cannot wait to see your home, once you've completely finished. I love the changes you've made so far! I've also wondered (and even searched your page) about you selling your photography. You have a fantastic eye & the areas you go are stunning, I'd imagine you have 100s of gorgeous pictures.
Hi Emi , once again another great vedeo of the inside of your van makeover . That was a great idea creating that shelf to store things on on each side just below the window. Just to give you an idea Emi , you could use velcro to secure what ever you’d like to put on those shelves so they don’t fall off as your driving . I am loving your home. Honestly, if I could snap my fingers and have my dreamed about tiny home on wheels, it would look almost identical to yours. It's incredibly homey and cozy. Almost "cottagey". Beautiful work.

Your renovations have not only been aesthetically pleasing but also very functional/practical. The photo doors are the bomb. The wood work and trim has just made this a home. The adding real insulation will keep you warm and save on fuel to heat your home.

I'm sorry but you don't have to justify why you are making improvements to your HOME to anyone! People do it all the time in sticks and bricks and no one thinks twice about it. Emi, I have a tracker on my cat who goes outside during the day, have you ever thought of getting one for Kelly? They work great and not expensive. I use one called Tractive. Hope this helps. And the stuff you do to your van is great! P.S. I’ve seen another full timer in an RV has a tracker for their cat. Anyway, it’s just a thought. You and Kelly are so sweet together!

When you complete your van build...it will be the most cozy and beautiful place to stay in. As for anyone asking about you “wasting” your money, I don’t know of anyone paying your bills. You are always so classy and professional. It's raining. I'm ready for some rain. Catch any problem before you need it. I like having a set of tools so I can do what I want. You can get stuff cut but if you have a cut needed after you get where you're going - oooops. So yeah, good thing to have. Something to consider - printing out your pictures. Yeah. I love to decorate my home. No matter what it is. A MM Tiny Cottage, a big stick home, a storage building, a van. I love my home looking fun. Most people have some things that makes it "home". Yup. I love to decotrate (and that's how I pronounce it . Just a funny habit I picked up. :-) God bless... have a great rest of week.
Hey Emi, how about doing a leather loop stained the color you used on the frame as a door knob? If you used a heavy duty piece of leather it would make a nice door pull and won't add any weight to the door like a metal handle would. I've seen it done in one bus build and it added such a nice touch. The builder said they chose the leather because it wouldn't catch their clothing like a metal door pull might. Just a thought.
