I filmed Gaspar Nali in front of the lake. Can not be more real on internet. He made the instruments himself from recycled stuff that he collected. The string on his bass is made of wires from burnt tires. Check out his album. myspace.com/gaspernali/music/songs Anders - the photographer
Abellis Is it possible to go on a vacation in Malawi? This may sound ignorant and stupid but I've never been to Southern-Africa and all I learn about Africa from the media is ebola, boko haram and pirates. Are there racial or religious tensions in Malawi? I really love your video and watched more about Malawi here on UA-cam. This country and its people seem beautiful and i'd love to get to know the culture. I just want to know if theres another side of the medal.
This is the essence of rock and roll. The chord progression, the beat, and the harmonies of the vocals--all pure rock and roll. I'll bet there are 100 hit rock songs that share the chords, beat, tempo, and harmonies with this song.
Wow! Proud of this guy! Being Malawian myself, I see this guy is creative. The message is simple. In general, the guy is saying: I want to let you know what has shocked me in Nkhatabay, Malawi Instead of going to school, young girls are married and have kids I have seen a Church elder was at a drinking joint, I saw a Church Lady involved in adultery,
People, I want to tell you everything today People, I want to tell you everything now People, I should tell you everything today People, I should tell you everything now What surprised me, in the whole of Malawi What I’ve seen in Nkhata Bay Small children dropping out of school now Small children know men today Small children are married nowadays Small children of 9 years have babies - Mayiwe! Ah-lalala waaah, Ah-yayaya eeeeh! Ah-yayaya ooooh, Ah-yayaya ooooh! Ah-yayaya today, Ah-yayaya Mayiwe! Ah-yayaya today, Ah-yayaya Mayiwe! It’s true! It’s true! People, let me tell you everything now People, let me tell you everything People, I want to tell you everything They said I should tell you everything now At Njaya, I want to tell you everything At Mayoka, I want to tell you everything What surprised me, in the whole of Malawi What I’ve seen there, in Nkhata Bay Seeing the whole Malawi… Seeing the whole Africa Our destination is (Hell) fire - Mayiwe! Ah-yayaya waaah, Ah-yayaya eeeeh! Ah-yayaya ooooh, Ah-yayaya Mayiwe! - Mayiwe! Ah-yayaya waaah, Ah-yayaya oooh! Ah-yayaya today, Ah-yayaya Mayiwe! Spoken Voice: Those who are able to listen, let them do so It’s true, It’s true mama, It’s true, It’s true More Fire - More Fire Spoken voice: That’s the message, if you understand, you understand. If not, that’s your own fault
+Bob Anderson Haha True! Although I woulden't go that far a sayin' but Gasper is a one-man big-gig! Simple music to the ears - great groove in the soul! Listen to this while driving through Sout-Africa with my father, passing through poor rural towns with people cheering at the music! Digging it! :)
This is better than even the version of this very song from this very creator on UA-cam Music! The passion, and the earnest joy in the art of music is so apparent that it elevates this recording of the song above just about any other recording! At least in my opinion, I would never disparage your own of course!
Awesome sound, a mix of a punky sound with the more traditional melodious African sound and voice, can listen to this all day. A unique instrument also, I used to play on my old country guitar in a similar way, tapping the strings with a metal stick, or using the edge of a plastic ruler as a bow to get a violin like sound. It's the kind of creative out of the box thinking the African people use to create instruments out of virtually everything you can think of (except a pillow probably) and music, and they don't use written notes or chords to learn or compose a song, they do it all by ear and memory. That is what gives the unique character to this music, it's pure and original, unlike all the overly produced and engineerd music in the west nowadays.
Gaspar Nali was on early at the Oye Africa festival in Liverpool, England on Saturday and he absolutely blew the place away. Everyone was smiling and dancing with joy. Gaspar got groove.
From the tiny little country that gave the world The Very Best's Esau and the Mouse Boys comes yet another virgin talent. Sometimes you only need to sit back and see beyond what main stream media shoves into our living rooms. Cheers to all of you who saw beyond the brokeness of the Malawi economy and found this sound fresh and exciting. I bet there is more from where Gasper comes from.
I've just discovered this song via Facebook. It was one of those "if you like that, try this" recommendations. I've tracked down the lyrics and they are quite "heavy" for such a happy sounding song. This makes me smile and want to dance.
Wow this is beautiful and amazing. Brings out the African in me and proud to be one. I'm here bopping my head to this with a smile. He has a lot of talent. Wish I knew what language he was singing in. Someone sign this brother and get him on tv. Actually nvm.... I'd rather have him stay in his already beautiful world and not be brought into the evil music industry of today. The scenery and low quality of the video take me back to the 90s. When the world was okay. Going to save this to my playlist Edit: He's singing in Chichewa. Official language of Malawi. A country in Africa. But Google Lake Malawi and look at the images. Wow. So much beautiful scenery and the water looks amazing. Adding this to my bucket list. About to dive in that lake and take a nap lol "Chewa is the national language of Malawi. It is also one of the seven official African languages of Zambia, where it is spoken mostly in the Eastern Province." - Wiki Sorry guys for getting carried away. This same video on Worldstarhiphop right now has more views lol
I love this song so much. It’s sad and truthful. I’m so afraid for the kids. This cuts into my heart. And I am grateful for this song, because of it’s honesty. Undeniable rhythm too! Brilliance.
The bloke has talent. Great song, even though I don't understand a word - it's the music, the tune, the melody that grabs me. I'll bet this fella will be a future talent. Cheers
#Afrique #Africa #musique
This really takes me back to beautiful Malawi! I love the lake fly swarm in the back left and the random kayak (probably from Butterfly Space next door to where this was shot) in the back :)
I absolutely LOVE this! Wish I could sit down with this guy, grab my guitar and join in! If you're ever in S.A, let me know! Let's make some music around the fire.
THIS is what UA-cam is for, not self-proclaimed celebrities and influencers with no self distance!

Abellis , can you get the lyrics transcribed and/or translated from Chichewa?
Passwordcracks thanks, it sounds very different from what it says. must be the malawi version of sxe punk or gangsta rap
the chords for guitar are: C5 - F5 - C5 - G5. standard tuning. Give it a try, this tune rocks!
