I like James P but I don't like hearing him (or any other pianist for that matter) when it's from a piano roll. It's all too mechanical, and whilst it is playing I get an image of someone standing there turning a wheel like you would on a barrel organ. No, give me the proper recordings with shade and light!!

A valid criticism. Fortunately, we have reasonable evidence ( although, who wouldn't love more ) of James P. on 78 from this period in his career.
