As a former JP Morgan employee, i can confirm rumors are the PPT (Plunge Protection Team) still steps in from the sidelines a few times a week where necessary. For what it's worth, i've been told they are being directed by Larry Summers to defend key levels and at opportunistic timing for end of day ramps, i.e. to "guide" the major indexes into the green on light volume. We can only speculate as to why.
does the data really matter? i used to think it did. but ask yourself the question; has all the data been good? good in terms of what the market 'supposedly' wants. Over the past year, we've hear the market wants rate cuts above all and according to what the market was pricing in a solid year ago, we were supposedly to have as many as 6 rate cuts BY NOW. We've had ZERO, and still may get none this year. Just go back to last summer and listen to the news. Its been pure 100% gaslighting that this market is moving on the data. Has all the data been market friendly? has all the inflation numbers been better than expected? has all the employment data been market friendly? than why are we sitting at all time highs if the data matters? Biggest lie perpetrated on financial media!
always ignore the narratives. just follow the direction and watch behavior on major trendlines and resistance levels.
Markets just do what markets want . It's a giant legal casino . But it's nice to be part of something like that isn't ?

When you figure out real estate, let me know. There is a difference between XLRE and median home prices. So, perhaps we need to be more specific. Commercial has been dropping, but home prices continue to rise even as rates go up. That confuses me. The old assumption that prices drop as rates rise has not played out in residential. In fact, commercial has only recently decided to go convincingly negative. So, why did XLRE drop so dramatically from 2022 while commercial properties were increasing value, and not drop while the values actually plummet? Interest rates is the easy answer, but the correlation to rates seems a little dubious if you consider the impressive push AFTER rates went higher. I understand a lag in pricing, but the massive spike is baffling.
Perhaps, in the end, the answer is an interaction between the normal course of events and the often referenced $1.7T pumped into the markets. That is the wildcard and it truly changes the game. That, and there is the fact that I’m just a blue collar slob, trying to make things better for his kids. So, few people really want me to understand any of this anyway. So, thanks for the info you provide and the knowledge you share. You’re making a difference.

Despite market really look like " peaked " , in my personal opinion CPI gona be very bullish , like very very bullish , and they might adress some revisions in recent data for bulishness. Also Canada , and ECB allready cuting rates , this will not go well if US strugle with cuting . And hey , US cant be on back foot ? They are best ? Or are they ?
Overall , i expect just another big rally to begin, and with real rate cut we will get back volume , wich now is pretty dry..
You are probably right. The discrepancy between mega caps and small caps keeps getting bigger. This will eventually catch up with us... eventually

Alot of us would probably prefer actionable information/overview for the week/month and some longer term long ideas based on what we're seeing. The Win/Loss journaling is great but I think less time could be spent there. found you extremely resourceful and respected your analysis especially back in Sept-Jan. Live trade examples are great.
With the current data would foreign bonds or ARGT trade still be an idea? Mind covering gold/silver at all based on macro?
I really think the data this week gave a lot of people relief because they thought we were slipping back into recession territory. The “hot” numbers just balanced out some of the weaker numbers from weeks past. If we continue to get hot numbers I think you will see a bad reaction. Next will be interesting.
