King Lear | Official Trailer | National Theatre Live

- Опубліковано 26 лип 2020
- Considered by many to be the greatest tragedy ever written, King Lear sees two ageing fathers - one a King, one his courtier - reject the children who truly love them. Their blindness unleashes a tornado of pitiless ambition and treachery, as family and state are plunged into a violent power struggle with bitter ends.

Chichester Festival Theatre’s production received five-star reviews for its sell-out run, and transfers to the West End for a limited season. Jonathan Munby directs this contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s tender, violent, moving and shocking play.

I wish they stream this online. I'm willing to pay.
I think the reason they can’t stream it is because they’ve made deals with cinemas across the globe and now that cinemas are opening internationally, they can’t sell it directly on UA-cam or prime. I’d pay for pay per view, it’s an amazing experience and they definitely should look into that option.
Would happily pay to see this streamed online, as even if I lived near one of these cinemas I wouldn't venture inside one during a pandemic.
Me too
Yes!!!
If this is the National Theatre production I saw on cinemas three or four years ago, it's worth watching. I would see it again.
I don't think the play makes much sense, unless it is the giving up of power that drives him mad, rather than senile dementia (the former being Orson Welles's understanding of the part). Rather, it was the performances which drew me, eyeballs glued to the screen. And what marvelous voices.
A pity it isn't online for us ex pats.
I'm willing to pay per play to view, or even an annual membership with a play per week or month... Pls consider, especially for those outside of the UK...
Please, please, please: a pay to stream service! Would happily pay to watch these marvellous NT productions, and so support the magnificent NT.
Have you considered streaming this? People would pay.
Yes, especially 'cause I think this is the play where he got naked.
I would absolutley pay to stream these
NT Live really broke boundaries, so streaming, now so common, can't be such a stretch. Can it? I would definitely pay to see re-runs or live streaming at home....but I have no plans to visit a cinema any time soon.
A lot of live theater and dance is on theatre streaming services. My country has one called Marquee.
I totally agree. Many of us live a long way from London and/or can’t afford London theatre prices. The cinema is great but is not available for a lot of people. But you’ve built up a host of dedicated followers who could pay a sub to watch online - or pay to view? It would be extra Income for the NT. I’ve so enjoyed watching the performances during lockdown. That will always remain a highlight!
Stream stream stream.. people a willing to pay and it makes amazing performances more accessible especially during covid. X
I live in the US and will not venture to a theater. Please offer a streaming service, or add your films to another streaming service such as BroadwayHD. These plays were such a big benefit to me when you offered them for free, but I would be willing to pay for a streaming subscription to watch this wonderful theater. Thank you!
Please stream this
Please stream this online. I will pay for it. Please!!!!!
Wish this was coming to National Theatre Live on You Tube. I'd pay to see this, but not sure how that'd work as I live in Sydney. With this 2nd wave of Covid locking down Victoria, it's only a matter of time before N.S.W. follows suit. Cinemas have only just reopened, but not sure if they'll still be open in September.😔 Very, very sad.☹
As a Victorian I am very sad I didn’t get a chance to go to the cinema before second lockdown 😔
As someone living overseas, I miss National Theatre At Home. As many other people on the comment section, I'd happily pay to see NT's plays online ❤️
I watched this live two years ago at the Duke of York’s theatre... Amazing performance
Please stream this!
Please like many others have said please consider a streaming service soon. These plays are great and streaming makes it so much more accessible to more people. It would really help to keep the arts alive, especially at this time.
Oh how badly do I wish to watch this. Ian McKellen’s face and the stage captured me immediately.
This was such an awesome experience to watch live. As soon as ian stepped on stage it felt as if even the air stood still and he was lamenting directly to you, sat in a theatre of hundreds of people. A truly amazing adaptation 😍
Ian McKellen is a wonderful actor, a true thespian.
Totally agree. Would make it accessible to all the country.
Saw this live last year. Singlehandley one of the greatest performances I've ever seen.
I hope you're reading these comments, National Theatre! I, too, would pay for a membership to stream your truly excellent content. My mother and I very much enjoyed the At Home series and would love to be able to watch the ones we missed, rewatch many of the others (particularly Amadeus, Antony and Cleopatra and Twelfth Night 💕), and access those destined for the cinema since we can't go to one now!
The closest Cinema where it is shown to my hometown is 60miles away 😭 whyyyyyyy?
is there any way I can buy DVD's of their productions?
I’d happily subscribe to some sort of National Theatre Channel to pay to see these amazing performances from home
I saw this ina theater and consider it among the very best NT Live offerings to date (and I've seen just about all of them). Superb work by all concerned. I'd willingly see it again.
Just read Station Eleven and was intrigued by its mentioning of King Lear. Cool to see this here. Plz stream!!
This makes me so sad because I would love to be able to see this show! King Lear is one of my absolute favorites! No cinemas near me are even thinking about opening up and if they were it would be a threat to public health. Please bring back the UA-cam streaming!!
I caught production this in Singapore when a friend surprised me with tickets … for his birthday. Great show!
I've been waiting for this one, too bad it's not available online. Shakespearian plays aren't exactly available in France :(
Stunning production with a stunning company of actors...
I woldl love for this to be online to be paid for, as I know many Australians would as well! I hope you can set up something where those in other countries can support your efforts online, and watch more of these wonderful productions :D
Please Stream. Will pay.
Yes, please consider streaming online for a fee. I'm in Australia, and won't be going into a cinema during a pandemic.
I never got the chance to watch this because I live in France.
I'd like to know if there will be DVD ? I would buy it and watch it over and over again.
Can’t wait to see this!
I would happy pay to see as all the theatres are more than 3k km away.
pleeeeease, streamed this, and other amazing plays!!!!! A partnership with Netflix would be amazing, can reach other countries as well. I don't think many people are confident enough about going to cinemas right now.
Stream it please!
I'd happily pay to watch online as I could never get tickets for Mc Kellen' s Lear but I am not going anywhere near a cinema...
Please please stream online I will pay so much lol
Stream it online. Willing to pay!
Wow! What powerful 40 seconds. But I expect nothing less from Ian McKellen. This is proper acting!
I don’t like King Lear but I would 100% watch this adaptation. Is there any chance they’ll have paid online streaming, it’s just that I don’t know if cinemas will be open where I am in September...
I don't think that I will be comfortable going to a movie theater cinema next month. Please consider a pay per view option so that those who would love to see and support this, but are unable to go to the cinema for various reasons can still watch it. Thank you.
In general before the pandemic, I have had difficulty going to movie theaters because of other health problems that I have.
Thank you for your time and consideration and thank you for making your art more accessible.
Would happily pay a monthly subscription to watch at home instead of going to the cinema and risking my health.
Would happily pay whatever you say to watch this online!
I'm ultra high risk and can't go to the cinema, but would gladly pay to watch this at home. Please consider streaming?
I will donate more money to this organization for you to allow US theaters to stream the upcoming productions for viewers in the US!!! Please try to find a way for us viewers in the US to watch.
Echoing the above - by streaming regularly during lockdown, you've already tested the water and established a loyal audience. Streaming makes this accessible to many more people, many of whom cannot go to cinemas. Please consider working on ways to build on the fantastic things you've achieved so far - eg different ways to nudge lots of ppl to pay a small donation each.
Well Done on being brave to try new things during lockdown.
Thank you for being brave now.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I would as well, pay that is, to watch it streamed. I live no where near a theatre and wouldn't go to one if I could!
Why is this an unlisted video? Anyway, it's coming out on my birthday🎊🎉yay!
STREAM IT ONLINE! THERE IS STILL A PANDEMIC GOING ON! lots of love from WEST YORKSHIRE
I only understood a few words from what he said. It was YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!
National theatre I prefer watching this at home than theatre x
Your free streamed productions were unbeliveably generous and needed during lockdown. I LOVED them and thank you!
I will now happily pay to watch your productions online. But there is NO WAY I'll be going near a cinema any time soon. Either for your content or Anyone else's. I'd love to see this production, but NO!
I would pay to stream this online.
I so want to see this, but I'm not in the UK... T_T
Please, I am desperately searching for a copy of this production for my dissertation due in a week. does anyone know where I can get a hold of it, it's a pretty crucial part of my argument and writing from memory is proving harder than I thought (duh I know, I really should have thought about this when I first started writing) but please please please for the love of all that is holy, can anyone help me?
Is it any way that I can watch it from home?
I'd pay to rent this at home, Soho theatre rented Fleabag through their website. Maybe it's a contractual problem that you can't but I hope you sort it out. I want to be able to support my local cinema and would love to see this on a big screen but it's just not feasible right now.
Not only would i pay to stream so i could see it again, id pay top dollar for a bluray
The production is from way back in 2007, isn't it? Or was there another one later?
Tue Sorensen This one is from 2018.
Please! You decided to stream during lockdown, why can't yoy keep doing it now?
Oh, I would love to see this. May be the first thing to get me.out of the house.
I choose to believe this is just how they found him after Cats
I would kill to know the song's name
You Shall Not Pass
Wait-is this streaming online? Looks like cinema only?? Come on National Theatre, people aren’t going to the cinema during flu season...
Holiwood actors performing at theatre, no ego.
Indian actors never think of this.
Why post these trailers and not stream them? Its mean! Lol. As a disabled person - I can't get to the cinema... additionally - when prices went up to £22 - £25 per ticket, in the cinema, it priced me out. Please stream online, but remember to make it affordable to those on lower incomes!
What a shame, this is not playing in Berlin. I noticed that The National doesn't even bother responding to the multitudes of comments expressing how much we would love to pay for the streaming of plays. Such a shame, catering to the select few who risk going to a theater even if it happens to be showing in the first place. I donated with each UA-cam viewing during lockdown and now I feel rebuffed.
Everything is not all about you Jerome! A big part of this is because of contracts with the UK actors unions, royalties etc. They were able to get that all waived during the initial months of the pandemic but highly unlikely they can do that anymore since some cinemas are opening in some countries.
Wow that explains everything
@@lauriroset Well said
Why does every old actor have to play Lear? It's like a death knell - "I'll do Lear and then I can hang it up" The only great production of Lear I've ever seen was Kurosawa's RAN
Who else is going to play Lear? However, I agree wholeheartedly with your view of RAN. Have you watched his Macbeth - Throne of Blood?
Many of the great Lear's that I have seen have not then "hung it all up". I have also seen it performed by a wide range of ages - genders... Surely the beauty and genius of Shakespeare and indeed live Theatre is that the plays allow a wide range of adaptations to enjoy - not like movies or TV where a performance is frozen at a time.. Yes Kurosawa's RAN brilliant but then so was Jackson at the Vic - Cox at the National McKellen Kathryn Hunter etc etc...
Sick and tired of these trailers. Either start showing full productions, or just let it drop, what on earth is the point?
I wish they stream this online. I'm willing to pay.
