  • Every year on July 14th sinners of all kinds put their activities on pause to celebrate and venerate their patron Saint Rosalia, a medieval Sicilian noble turned nun, credited with miraculously saving the city from the plague centuries ago.
In this video, we dive deep into this unique tradition, where Sicilians join the devout in a 6-hour long procession, screaming praises and prayers with unparalleled intensity. It's a sight that baffles many - the belief that one day of fervent worship can erase an entire year of sin.
But where did this belief come from? And what is the true story of Saint Rosalia? Is she really a sin absolver as many Sicilians believe? We trace her story back to her days of solitude on Pellegrino Mount, her miracle during the plague, and how these events have shaped this annual ritual that sweeps through the streets of Palermo.

" U viaggiu a munti Piddirinu " as we would call it. Santa Rosalia has always been an important saint in my family. On all our trips to Sicily to visit relatives, we would always do the pilgrimage up the mountain.

Everything dal balcone scrivete tutto! 😮. I grew up overlooking the mountain 🏔️. My nonna told me this same story.
