Mapex is starting to leave some other drum companies in the dust with how much they’ve improved over the past few years. This line up of snares is just further proof, they all look sublime and sound great!

Nice looking line. Mapex has definitely come on in recent years.

These sound surprisingly excellent, nearly every one of them has that fantastic, open pop and crack! I agree that they all sound quite similar, but that’s to be expected when they’re mostly maple.
Excited to hear the metal shells!

Agreed, except it doesn't surprise me at all.
I've been playing Mapex for a while now, my current (and third) kit is a 20 years old Mapex Orion, my first one was a Saturn (first generation, I think), and I have 3 Black Panther snares (one from '98, other from '04, and the third one is quite newer, maybe '15, I can't recall now)... and I can tell you they've been doing great instruments for a while.
So that's why I tell you that I'm delighted with how they sound, but definitely not surprised...

I have the exterminator and I wanted to up grade to exactly what you have, the BP shadow... Does it really worth it, is there really a big difference sound wise between the two? Thx

@@do8671 Never played the exterminator, but the deep sound of the Shadow is just right for me :)

The best sounding to my taste. I have the Tomahawk and I love it.

Mapex probably makes the best snares in that under $500 category. I own several including the Black Panther design lab Equinox which is my favorite of any snare I have played. The sensitivity is just crazy. The quality is something you would expect out of a $1000 plus snare. If I were shoping under $500 it would be Mapex or Pork Pie and most likely Mapex. You can pick up a used one for a steal if you can't pay full price.

The black panthers are awesome. They make as good of a snare as any other company

Mapex is making some superb snare drums these days. I already own two - Wraith and Velvetone - and after hearing the new models in this video, I think the Venom is next. I really like the combination of sensitivity and projection, and it doesn’t have any boxiness to it.

I think the NUCLEUS sounds best IMO
I’m going to order one soon. Thanks for the demo

They look and sound amazing. I recently picked up an Armory Exterminator, the Shadow seems to be a more premium version of that. Would I be right in saying that they are nearly identical in terms of sound?

Have missed my phatbob so bought the Solidus and it's very similar. Great drum though I changed head to Evans HD Dry and threw a diecast hoop on top and now I have a monster for metal.

To my ears, the Sonic Saver hoops really make a big difference in the focus of the drum! They all seem a little bit crisper!

Personally, I think the Mapex maple Black Widow, now discontinued, sounds better than all the new Black Panther range.

razor similar but different hoops and a bit thicker at 6mm. That black widow snare was a beast though not sure how they would compare side to side

Several of the snares had some pretty undesirable overtones.

    • @tillsommerdrums
      @tillsommerdrums 3 роки тому +1

That is very personal taste. For me only one snare had some harsher overtones, all the other ones sounded superb
