I live where it is cold... I have 2011 volt... I want to have it run on gas all the time when it is believe 25 degrees.. is there soft ware to do this??? also could I lie to the computer that battery is dead so it runs on gas... 2012 and up have solf ware to do this... it still run great... today 12 volt battery die... not bad for 11 year old battery... wow.. I have been running it on mountain but I need to get the battery charge to less than 11 mile left...
Autoline Daily had Sandy Munroe on there show and he mentioned some electric batteries dont let them drain below 20 percent or they turn into a paperweight. Not sure if he meant the Volt because they did a tear down of this car too. Maybe he was talking about batteries for your kids toys but he wasn't specific in his comment.
Bryce, I own a 2012 Volt with 112K miles and the battery seems to be degrading now that the warranty is expired. The Chevy dealers here in Ohio have no clue that the Volt even has an ICE and say that the battery is "not repairable". If I can find someone more knowledgeable what should I expected the "module replace" cost to be? Thanks, Kent

I question them about the clean bill of health, they told me it "just happens" batteries go like that. No warning, nothing ...I don't by it. Had it towed to a 2nd Chevy dealership Sunset Chevy Sarasota with the same news plus another 100.00 for the second opinion. Again towed to the 2nd dealership and towed again home. Lots of misconceptions and poor advertising. When I bought mine, most people I talked to thought it had about 60 horse power, and a 30 mile range TOPS. There's little EV charging in my area, so most people thought (with that misunderstanding) thought the Volt isn't viable. Tax Credits + the depreciation of new tech have created a heavy incentive to lease... So only in the last 18 months have we started to see a substantial market of used, affordable Volts. You can nab a lightly used 2013 or 2014 for about the same price as a zero-frills alternative like the Malibu. I mention that only because Chevy rightly did light production runs because that's both what new tech and what lease-specific models call for.

Great video! Well done. Only one issue and it is no biggie, the first speaker lets everyone know he prejudged the car. What he is saying is "look, I am a bigot". No shame. for those who may not know what bigotry is, I have included the definition in the next post.
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. described bigotry in the following quotation: "The mind of a bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.
Bigotry is the state of mind of a "bigot", a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices, especially one who exhibits intolerance or animosity toward members of a group.
This looks like a great video and the intro was real loud but the moment you're filming Bill nye rip off started talking the audio levels dropped to mumbles from Dick Tracy Tracy I'm gonna have to build a quiet room just to watch this video which I think is silly and I'm commenting on to penalize you for your silliness
the chevy volt is a great idea, but the battery itself is not. there is better battery technology then what the volt uses, but thats GM's fault for being a cheap company. but if they had used the most current battery technology the volt could get a much better range before the gas engine kicks in.
anubis1100 GM has designed an excellent battery that shows no degradation even after years of daily use. Glad they did not follow your moronic unprofessional advice.

Dose this mean the 3 gallons I spilled inside the passenger floor is safe?
Would it be possible to take this technology and put it in a boat?

Where they do that
Excellent data presentation.
brilliant piece of engineering. way to go for GM.
Reality proves the haters totally wrong on the Volt.
Isn't that the part that catches fire in accidents?
You mean like gas in an ICE car?

I've had mine for 2 weeks. gone 450 miles on about a cup of gas. and about $8 worth of electricity. (150 Kwh)
Volt was a super cool car when it works, but if it breaks, you're better off buying a new one than fixing the old.
What a waste of resources.
