  • In this face painting class, I show you how we use split cakes and rainbow cakes. Split cakes have revolutionised face painting in the sense that it makes it so much easier for us to combine colours and blend them into one stroke with one brush. It is best practice to experiment using this technique with different size and type of brushes.
Split cakes and rainbow cakes in face painting can also be applied onto the skin using face painting sponges, We could use the longer flat surface of a half sponge to cover a large area using a large rainbow cake or if we wanted to cover a smaller area we could load up the tip of our half sponges.
My advice for loading up 1 inch flat brushes for face painting is to practice loading up the paint as it can be tricky and making sure that your brush isn’t too wet before picking up the split cake paints.
I hope you enjoyed this face painting class, I would love to know of your progress.

This is so helpful! I'm barely starting out! I have only black, white & red Wolf FX face paints! But I'm gonna invest in Snazaroo & a split cake soon! Which colors/brands of split cakes do you recommend when starting out? I can only afford to purchase 2 at the moment & want to get ones I can multipurpose 💚

I watched a demo of painting spider man. The artist used a sponge brush like a blender with red paint and powder. What is this powder? I have difficulty getting an unstreaked finish on darker skin.. How can I remedy this?

Hi Sofy, these stencils are BAM stencil. You can find them at your local face painting store. I also use Ooh! Stencils which are just as great. I recommend Global Colours, TAG, Superstar, Diamond FX, Face Paints Australia, Silly Farm
      Hope this helps 😃🌸

Hi Zoe 😃 great to hear from you and I’m so glad you’ve taken up face painting as a hobby 👍 my fav palette that I use would have to be Global Colours Rainbow burst. They also have some other pallets like Leanne’s pallets which is also fantastic 😊 hope this helps 💖💖

I’ve never used Snazaroo however I find that Global Colours Black it TAG black works for me, make sure you’re missing enough water through it 😊
