I just realized, after the disastrous Fallout 76 release, I remember thinking that Starfield was going to be the make or break for Bethesda. EVEN AFTER how disappointing Starfield was, we STILL have a glimmer of hope that Todd and the team will cook with TES6. The Todd effect
Whenever I play stellaris as a megacorporation, my first leader is always Todd Howard and my empire name is Bethesda. I truly believe if we encounter vast alien empires, he will be our best hope of selling them on the idea of our importance.
Fallout 76 was the breaking point for me. I didn't bought the game because I was not a fan of online gaming, but the disastrous lauch didn't go unoticed. The (new?) greediness of this company and all the lies were more obvious afterwards. I was a Bethesda fan and still enjoy their previous games to this day, but Todd is not able to sell me anything easily since Fallout 76. Too distrustful of an individual.

To be honest, I've never watched a Todd Howard presentation or interview. I've only ever seen him in video's like these or compilations or memes. Even still, I can't deny that his charisma is off the charts. I think that your last point is the main reason for that. Whenever he overpromises stuff, it isn't because he's trying to fool us to make money. It's because he's genuinely excited about whatever idea, concept or mechanic he's talking about. His mind is racing with all kinds of amazing possibilities and cool stuff, just like with fans. Unfortunately, the execution of anything he talks about is rarely as good as he makes it seem, but that's human. Getting overhyped is easy, and he's just as susceptible to it as any other fan. It's just that because of his position, that hype is going to be infecting hundreds of thousands of people and getting them just as excited as him. Which will unfortunately brand him a liar whenever a game inevitably falls short of expectations. Eventually reality always disappoints but that's only partially Todd's fault. He's not malicious about it. I just see him as that friend from school that convinces you to do all kinds of dumb stuff that you know isn't going to end well. You know it's not gonna be as good as he promises, you know the game is going to be buggy or a feature is going to end up a lot less impressive that he makes it sound. But he's your friend and you get convinced by his excitement anyway. Or maybe not, it's just the impression I always got from Todd 'The Godd' Howard. About 60 hours in, Main quest is at Battle of Bruma and keeping it there for a while. I'm now in Garlas Malatar, about to put the Divine Smackdown on Umaril.

And he says Starfailed is the best game they’ve ever made: again, he’s either going senile or he’s lying to us in his friendly, relaxed “would I lie to you?” manner.

Most videos coming out are, in my opinion either too cynical or too unrealistic with what they expect or what they envision might happen.
