Eve is best summarized by a bunch of angry people building sandcastles while other angry people occasionally kick them apart. Love it.
+M. Woller ist way more pathetic but also way more epic than it sounds
M. Woller Its the closest any game has managed to get to a sense of real risk and loss. unlike other games when you lose stuff its gone forever, its doesn't just respawn. This makes both the combat more impactful..
M. Woller Nah, its not murder. Everyone involved is a clone and when they die they are reborn in another clone. They are effectively immortal.
The people are clones, the ships and station however are destroyed. They don't respawn. This lets the attacking force seize the territory for further engagements.
+The Hole Deal You forgot about all the normal people who are not clones, who are on the station and also on the ships.
"Wreck their dreams"
EVE online in a nutshell
+Sloth Guru for the german audience, they translated that to "wreck your dreams" -,-
+Woody Hemphack oops
+Woody Hemphack also accurate
+Sloth Guru more like "Wreck your dreams"
+Sloth Guru hahaha ,was about to post the same comment , until I saw what was top comment.... damn right

Upwell: "Here are these grand new space cities, see their majestic presence transform your life"
Capsuleers: "New Targets!!!"
+Michaelle Green or: how many titans can we put in one?
"NEW KILLMAILS!"
What did they do? Destroy it for shits and giggles.
What did players actually do when the time came?
Destroy it for shits and giggles.
I wouldn’t know. I’ve only been playing for a month
Yoink my citadel now😹 but same can be done with some smaller player controled stations. Worry cool mecanick
I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite Citadel in the galaxy.
+Андрей Касьянов I think you need to find a new favourite Commander, we seem to have broken this one - love from EVE
*was*
Hahaha mass effect is the best xd
Spaceboost!
Godlike comment!😂
Humanity spends countless funds and resources to build a city in space that dwarfs even the Titans. Guess we should blow it up
EVE logics in a nutshell.
"The latest miracle of modern engineering has been achieved? LET'S GO FUCK IT UP!"
Its kinda like ruining someone's food before they can take a picture of it. Except it costs more. Much more.
That's kinda how war works, "Our enemy built something amazing? LET'S GO FUCK IT UP!"
@@rickregina5053 I mean why take a picture of your food? In my mind just accomplishing the task of building the damn thingbis impressive enough and you shouldve known it wouldng last forever
Btw to all the people complaining about the music in this trailer: the music is absolutely perfect and representative of EVE. It's a dystopian sci-fi future where the ultra-elite class (players) have massive wars and throw away millions of lives FOR FUN. Most EVE players are allergic to RP and throw away the lives of their ship crews early, often, and sometimes while listening to hair metal.
The transition at 0:36 is an utterly brilliant in-universe reference to how EVE's player base always finds unintended, irreverent and amusing uses for new game mechanics. Usually involving figuring out how to use them to blow someone up.
In short this is the best, most self-aware trailer I've ever seen that encapsulates EVE Online perfectly.
True but then again can't make the trailer 45 minutes long =P
I wanna know who the fuck is complaining! This video, almost a year if not more since it's release still gives me a hard-on. Best trailer they've done!
Which, though, breaks the suspension of disbelief. Players are meant to represent a specific thing (an elite class of immortal space lords who have taken spacefaring to the next level), but don't behave like such beings plausibly would in such a universe, because of a difference between what would motivate and drive such a being, and what motivates a player. That, and the constraints imposed by the game mechanics.
RvB, for instance, is something pretty much every player can agree on is a great community initiative in the game. If such a thing would exist in the fictional universe as it exists in the game, capsuleers would have had their existence ended by angry mobs with pitchforks.
But yeah, as a representation of what the game is, on the level of alliance warfare and politics, it certainly hits the nail on the head.
See, that's the thing. Red Versus Blue is a perfect example of how players are reflected in the lore. Just how intense their disregard for human life is, throwing away hundreds of lives for "A thrilling battle" because they have the unfathomable wealth to just do it.
Eve's lore was entirely built around how players act in the game, and that's what makes it so cool to read about. Capsuleers number in the hundreds of thousands... in a cluster in which every empire region alone has trillions of people. There aren't as many capsuleers in space as it seems, it's just that the warp drives and highly advanced military vessels, on top of basically having top level priority on any warpgate jump, station dock/undock, or any other communication just out of being that rich, the world doesn't seem so big.
+Arius Krieg This is exactly how people would act if they were immortal in real life and had access to this kind of destructive technology. They wouldn't have the same morality you and I have, because they don't have the same concerns as we do.
RvB focuses on people who can actually get hurt, die, and have things they care about lost forever. They're, more or less, normal people.
Capsuleers can't die, and anything they lose can eventually be regained. They're not supposed to be an "elite class of immortal space lords", they're supposed to be humans stripped of all inhibition.
Their slogans for the trailers get more accurate every year xD this time its spot on "Wreck their dreams"
They should put there: "wreck your expectations" :P
Me: Oh hey, cool city.
*Ship bursts through screen*
Me: Okay, so thats cool. But where be the titans.
*Notices how small the titans are*
Me: Dear god.
A description of my experience of this trailer.
there like. about a kilometer right?

Directed by Michael Bay.
Underrated
Not enough lens glare to be JJ Abrams
I know this comment is old, but this isn't Michael Bay. The chick at 0:24 isn't showing cleavage, there's no unnecessary slow-mo shots, the fleet attacking needs to be the equivalent of the U.S Navy because "AMERICA, FUCK YEAH!!", and the music needs to be overly dramatic sounding instead of fun.
Maybe the council will be useful this time.
Wait, wrong game
+MrRikersBeard With Xenuria in it again? BoB help us all...
Heeehe mass effect
Homeworld 1?
Lol
This trailer was so epic, that I actually shed a tear for how beautiful it is.

+Samuel Wang We'd need a 0.1 option for realism

Njoekiezoekie Bro, Tidi is something on CCP's end. It slows down everything so that their servers can process everything without crashing.

+Winston Smith
What do you think about the Dawn of War 3 trailer?
This is actually quite below the scale of the battles that happen quite regularly in wartime, so Eve Online trailers are possibly the only trailers to understate gameplay.
Given how messy the large-scale battles tend to look, they probably had to cut down the ship count just so their rendering wouldn't take a year
There goes Upwell's marketing budget.
Music is both hilarious and badass at the same time. Top trailler!
SirMo I noticed that most Eve trailers are all just doom and gloom. that's why this is the best, because of the music.
It's one of the few videos from the Capsuleer's perspective, with them laughing, cheering, and generally having a blast even as many of them are shot apart in return.
If this were the usual fare, we'd hear the reaction of people on the Citadel, which would be horror at the sheer size of the fleet that arrived, and the realization that it was a Capsuleer fleet.
@@tennoshenaniganizer9234 I mean, the This Is Eve trailer was far from dreary
....Is that Permaband singing? Cause if it is i might just have to super-fast book tickets to see you guys.
they're playing tonight!
+Zockhandra “Zock” Daki they made a music video for it posted on ccp games channel.
I really wonder if the first 39 seconds of this video is a spoof/jab at all of the Star Citizen trailers that acted like luxury car commercials. Either way, once that rokh smashes onto the screen it is pure EVE carnage.
+Jason Burton that would be hilarious
+Jason Burton I bet it is :) it starts like some kind of "oh look, we are the future, invented to smash all to the ground", aka Star Citizen, and then boom, nope.
Jason Burton I like the song that was playing before the rokh though
Well, I think it is more a parallel between the empires and the capsuleers. With the empires being "hey look we are building the future and all" and the capsuleers "how can I find a way to make this shit blow up?"
Eve trailers always reignite my interest in the game
+-Aatif - Don't waste your time or money, 90% of their expansions (including this one) in the last few years have been for hardcore end gamers which is a tiny fraction of the game's population but CCP doesn't give a fuck, they only want to satisfy their precious player council (usually made of hardcore end gamers lol), I did have great times with eve for several years but if you are the kind of player who is more into PVE you will certainly hit a wall pretty quickly, the game is pretty limited in that regard ..
+Unterschiedliche Eve is really not about PvE. Everything in Eve is PvP. Market PvP. Gank PvP. Low Sec PvP. Nullsec PvP.
+Iain Howe I know, but it could have easily been both, it never needed to be "this" or "that", it's massive enough to cater to both tastes without making one feel belittled like a child.
I'm still one of those butt-hurt that WIS never moved forward, it was a CHOICE, if you didn't like it don't use it, how hard is that? but instead CCP was terrified of a bunch of it's own players and bent over like a bitch ..
+Unterschiedliche CCP didn't and still doesn't have the resources to properly move forward with WIS without sacrificing the maintenance and continued improvement of the core game. Any resources they put towards WIS are resources they have to take away from making the game itself better. They didn't just abandon WIS because a small group of players threw a hissy fit. They restructured the entire company and downsized by 20% because they realized they were trying to do too many things to appeal to too many people and sacrificing the core of EVE Online to do it. Older features had been left unfinished and riddled with bugs as focus continually shifted to new "Jesus" features in new releases to keep drawing in new players and get old ones to sign back up with shiny new stuff to play with before getting bored with them in three weeks and wondering why they started playing again.
When they abandoned WIS, they didn't do it because the CSM told them to or because nullsec players yelled really loud. They did it because for the first time ever, their subscriptions not only stopped growing, they actually started to decline. This was not a vocal minority speaking out. This was a significant portion of the player base giving a vote of "no confidence" to the company and the game, with a good chunk of them doing the voting with their wallets. The incoming DPS to their corporate image and their corporate wallet had broken through their shields and was quickly about to overwhelm their armor reps, so they had to GTFO of WIS. So they retreated to the POS and re-equipped more armor and a DCU with the Crucible release in Winter of 2011, which was the most successful expansion EVE had seen in a long, long time. It didn't introduce any new major features. It focused entirely on fixing 8 years worth of stuff they had already made and making the game better overall.

www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-10-21-eurogamer-interviews-ccps-hilmar-petursson-interview
If even Chribba brings out the Veldnaught to shoot at the memorial in Amarr to join in protest, you've probably made a bad move and pissed off pretty much everyone by that point.
WIS would have been a really neat feature. Most players would have been fine with it as a choice if they could simply ignore it. The problem is nothing happens in a vacuum and WIS could not have happened without taking away resources from the spaceships side of things; it would have done nothing to make the "game" part of the game any better, and ultimately players are paying to play internet spaceships and would rather their money go towards making it better and more fun to play, not to sit around in a station chatting with glorified dress-up dolls like they already could in Second Life or IMVU.
Citadel's structures go a long way towards making nullsec and lowsec a better place to play, and a healthier nullsec makes for a healthier game overall. It's the fighting in nullsec that drives the entire EVE economy, and generates the most player-driven content, which is EVE's biggest draw (especially now with World War Bee going on). It's also the largest contributor to the destruction of ISK and materials, and without it there would be much less demand for ships, modules, and resources, thus causing the market and the value of ISK to plummet. PvP is the core of everything EVE is, and yet at no point is it ever made entirely mandatory. But without PvP as a focus, EVE becomes another forgettable theme-park game that lasts maybe 3-4 years before players get bored and move on.
EVE has always been about Internet Spaceships and Sandcastle Empires in Space. Crucible brought development focus back to Spaceships instead of dress-up dolls (and non-space vampires!) in late 2011. Four and a half years later, Citadel finally brings us much better Sandcastles to build and knock over which they've been promising for a long time.
This strategy has proven to give a much better return on their efforts than finishing WIS would have been. After they put off development of World of Darkness indefinitely (now since handed off to another company entirely), they'd have gotten even less of a return on their efforts on walking avatars. The Carbon graphics framework for avatars was a huge waste of development time they started back in 08-09 to achieve character graphics in late 2010 that, while revolutionary at that point in time, would become more easily attainable cost-, development-, and performance-wise in the Unreal engine not too long after.

Whoever wrote those subtitles has my undying gratitude.
This video never gets old. Love it.
If only in game graphics and dynamic was like this *DROOL*
+Frans van Terwisga It's made entirely in the game graphics engine with very few custom effects used (breaking through the billboard is the only one I really noticed as totally custom), it's just the view as a pilot isn't nearly as cinematic and ship flight isn't nearly so precisely and gracefully controlled. The former is a result of practicality and tactical awareness; the best camera angles focus on what's cool to look at in that particular moment, and omit everything else that otherwise might be crucial to surviving a battle. That matter of control would take multiple players controlling a single ship (one to manage targets and modules as you normally would, and another just to pilot), as well as a ship piloting scheme similar to Elite: Dangerous for such finely and freely controlled movements.
waffle911 don't fool yourself, this was a cinematic trailer. It's called cinematic for a reason. On top of that, doomsdays don't realtime rip through structures as it did in this trailer either. Just one example of knowing this is not in-game

+Jaime Sosa -if it is not this intense for you then you are doing it wrong

+Jaime Sosa 5 months later... oh look. Level 5 skills! yay! now to get a cap ship... great. I spend to spend another year getting skills...
+Jaime Sosa It depends lot on the player if they like most of time playing eve being reasonably slow, and 5-10% being complete chaos. I like calm times, especially right before fights as everyone is getting excited waiting for the fight to start.
+Dark Star Eve being slow because of skill training is your own fault, you have skills to do all kinds of fun things from the moment you create your character, rest is in the players head.
