Grey's again. And again in the same style as my last edit.
I've finally cracked it. How I can edit Greys in a way that feels satisfying TO ME. I've been watching this show forever, but rarely ever edited it. In 2017 I started a rewatch of all seasons.And then proceeded to start and discard so many edits, like a crazy person. I've got like .. 20? half way done ..lol
Anyway! What I'm saying is, for the first time it felt right. Making this. And the previous one. Maybe it's not technical editing, maybe it's not aesthetic. IDC. It's a cathartic process. It's about that thread holding 16 seasons together, the nostalgia and love of it all.
Love these two. The raw pain of losing Derek tying them together against their will. The way they hurt each other so viciously. Their fundamentally incompatible world views. Meredith's stoic private mourning versus Amelia's open, heart wrenching breakdown. All the implications, the callbacks to Lexie and Cristina. So many scenes with these two break my damn heart. How it can never be truly fixed. But it's good, somehow. Good enough.

To be honest, it saddens me to see you guys fighting in the comments over who's to blame. I think it's infinitely more complex than that. Meredith and Amelia are both such layered and difficult women and I love the conflict between them, what unites them and what divides them. I love them both and their respectice journeys, how much they have had to overcome in their lives. It shouldnt be a context of who suffered the most. I'm glad they found it in themselves to forgive each other for all the horrible things they've said and done. It made their bond stronger and you can honestly see how they deeply they care for one another now. That's all that matters.

But that's not what she felt during this time meredith was a total bitch to amelia who's a lot of work but younger and more emotional, she wasn't sad she wasn't afraid she was irrationally pissed off that amelia was a walking reminder of derek and wouldn't just go away like richard said stop be angry at her for being the wrong shepard. merediths most interesting quality is she isn't one note nice or sad she much like the rest of us can be unfair and kind of a bitch.

Meredith wasn't cruel she was protecting herself, I get that her behavioir wasn't the best but when you know her history you understand why she acted that way.
meredith was also cruel to lexie and maggie too, she couldn’t just walk into her life and expect something like sister hood. (like lexie and maggie did) her and christina went through everything and grew together

Poor Amelia, her mother pushed her away at 5 years old because she reminded of her dead father, then Meredith did the same because of Derek... she IS NOT and never was the wrong Shepherd. She is amazing, the best doctor and deserves love and happiness!

Irina Mirzoyan what a lame judgement. Derek was requested by the government for his popularity but that doesn’t say that he is more brilliant than his sister. He surely benefit from Mer too working with him and coming with ideas! I think Mer is more brilliant than Derek and Amelia had she had a different life would be too. Amelia was devastated growing up with a father and being reminded that her dad died for her. Derek was over hyped imo. He surely is good but have we even had a chance to see Amelia working? Derek kept bashing her because of her alcoholism and he was one of the hard people on her.
@@ABirdOnTheMoon I completely agree. I hate how people trash Amelia. I also definitely think Derek was/is over hyped. I think many people hate on Amelia because the don't understand depression, therapy and alcoholism. That's not to say that I understand any of them perfectly, but as someone who has depression and anxiety, I do understand the struggle and at some points, not have the capacity to think beyond yourself because your pain is so overwhelming.
@@ABirdOnTheMoon she is totally BETTER... they said that on season 14 when she found out about her tumor, she has an 93% of success while Derek had 89% or something... Also she even operated and successed with a brain tumor and even a few times she was high, so she is BRILLIANT.
Cristina was there for like a decade. Amelia was there for a second and thought she was the new Lexie. No one can replace Lexopedia. *NO ONE*

Wow so many of you guys really don’t understand Meredith. We have to remember that Meredith basically lost everything she had in life. For years, she had no happiness or joy. Neglected by her mother and growing up without a father led her to having no stable relationship with anybody. Then Cristina and Derek came. She had never had a relationship as strong as these. Then they left. She’s alone again. Then Amelia comes, demanding a sisterly relationship between the two of them. First of all, the last time she tried to have a relationship with a sister she didn’t grow up with lead to many many tears and pain. Second, what bigger of a reminder can you get of Derek? The same last name and similar face, along with the similarities of the close relationship she had with Cristina. This is all too much for Meredith. She was raised to be independent. She was raised without anybody on her side. She doesn’t understand how family works because no one ever taught her. Meredith is understandably flawed and that’s what makes her such a strong and complex character. She is far from perfect but that’s relatable. You’re telling me you never made mistakes that you regret? Yes, Meredith should have called Amelia when her brother was dying. However, she was dealing with her own grief and staying strong for her two fatherless children. Everybody’s mad at Meredith for not calling Amelia when nobody is talking about how Amelia sprang this argument a year later, telling Meredith that Derek would be disgusted by her. That is wrong on so many levels. Meredith isolated herself with two kids and no support system while dealing with a pregnancy with no one to take care of her. Amelia was surrounded by friends and family to help her grieve healthily. If you would all just try to understand Meredith, she shouldn’t be getting all this hate.

Boohoo. Sorry but her life wasn't as bad as her attitude would tell. Other people have had it much worse in this show and they don't get their dick sucked like Meredith's. She's also not that good of a person considering she hates it when people expose her relationships, but thinks it's ok to expose others. Cough cough April. She also bullies April like the rest so what makes her so special? She thought that Lexie and Amelia are trying to steal her life when they just happened to know or like the people she hangs out with. How egocentric of her as if the world revolves around her. She gets applauded for being a "legendary" surgeon when her surgical skills are always outshined by other surgeons but don't win harper avery's like her. Her name is what got her so far.

Amelia has no family support either. All of the Amelia friends were Meredith's friends first. The only person who gave Amelia chance to be better was her brother Derek,they survived a shooting together lost their father in it. She deserved to see his brother. She deserved to be heard when she told Meredith what she did was wrong not shouted at and playing the victim card of how Meredith has to keep herself together because she has children. Her projection of Derek's death on Amelia is understandable to some extent but then again instead of acknowledgement she acted like some kind of hero ( on Amelia wedding) for giving her decent support when Amelia was freaking out. At the same time also advised owen to call christina few minutes before wedding ? They try to make her flawed hero so bad it just comes out as hypocrisy.

Jen Nava she had a lot going on, a lot of people do and they still call family. I lost my uncle and grandpa this year, we’re all hurt but it’s just always the first thing to come to mind especially when it’s brought up with docs. I understand if she takes a while to call family but still do it before you unplug someone.

Say what you want, I believe that nothing tops a family's love. Couples break all the time, family lasts an entire life. For Meredith to think that her being hid wife gives her the right to decide to turn off life support without telling his family is totally selfish, his family is as entitled to say goodbye as she is, if not more

The problem is Amelia expected more from the relationship too soon without having built that connection. When Meredith said u are Derek's sister Christina is my sister, she was basically saying they didnt have that bond, Amelia took that for granted because when she came to town derek was alive, she didn't earn Meredith respect or loyalty. Lexi was her actual blood sister and that took a while develop for same reasons. As an only child Mer wasnt raised with a guideline on sibling relationships, so she builds those bonds alot slower and more cautiously than both Amelia and Lexi who had sisters and and a preconceived idea and what that relationship should look like
Don't defend Meredith. She was awful. Had no respect for family unless she personally liked that person. It was truly cruel, what she said.
S Kael are sure you’ve watched all of Grey’s? Because I have a feeling you haven’t, Meredith grew up in a hard environment and therefore has learned to keep emotions to herself. She knew Cristina for such a longtime, they would have dance parties and cry together through the night. Meredith didn’t choose to have Amelia in her life the way she did with Cristina. Amelia is Derek’s sister, and Lexi and Cristina is hers - don’t mix that together. And no, Amelia has not done anything to earn that relationship, Cristina didn’t desert Meredith, she followed her dream. They will forever be each others person and Amelia can’t just waltz into her life and expect Meredith to be hers.

The thing is people just keep showing up in Meredith's life and just expect her to be okay with them. First Lexie, and now Amelia. They didn't even bother to get to know her. Like really get to know why she is the way she is and just get angry when she pushes them away.
Exactly. That's why cristina and alex were her people. Hell she's still loyal to others. She was loyal to izzie too, she was a friend to george then Jackson and april but they were not all her people like cristina and alex. Those two knew her, inside out and had the stamina to stand beside the kind of flawed person she was. Lexi just barged in her life right after the way Thatcher cut meredith out of his life in the worst way possible and demanded to ve loved just like that. Same with maggie and amelia. Meredith was way nicer and supportive to Amelia than her own sisters but just like Maggie, amelia just expected to be no.1 priority in such short time
But Lexie eventually got to know her. She firstly wanted to introduce herself, Meredith ignored her. Lexie grew to be someone Meredith was proud to call her sister and loved her very much. When Lexie died Meredith lost it. She did the same with Maggie remember?

Family is precious and wonderful. And the fact that Meredith does not get that just shows how clueless a person she is with horrible social skills. Who pushes people away who are trying to be nice to them. Especially growing up with the distant/absent mother she had. Meredith feels it's okay to be rude to people and it's not okay. She started this behavior when Lexi's mom wanted to be in her life. Mer is a horrible character. I have enjoyed the show in spite of her.

Sara Hana she was cruel or Lexie and her step mom at first because they had gotten a better version of her dad than she had. She was not cruel to Derek AT ALL all she did was are care for him. Meredith and Derek were very passionate so of course they fought sometimes. She was kind of cruel to Maggie but only because she had just found out she had ANOTHER sister that she didn’t know. So before you go saying things know the facts first😒

Meredith is not cruel, she is strong. Look at her life, people. Her mother didn't care about her, she tried to kill herself when Mer was a kid, then she got Alzheimer's and died; her father wasn't even in the picture; she had her hand on a bomb, she almost drowned; one of her best friends was hit by bus; one crazy man shot her husband right in front of her eyes and he was ready to shoot her too; she had a misscarriage and she thought she'd never be able to have kids; she almost lost her job with the drama with Alzheimer's trial; the social workers then took Zola; she was in a plane crash, where her little sister Lexie died; she gave birth to her child during a hortible storm and she almost died because of DIC-syndrome; her person Cristina left her and moved to the other part of the world; the love of her life Derek died; she was attacked by patient; she was fired from the hospital and she was in jail. You still think Meredith Grey is cruel?!?!?

For those of you complaining about Mer being mean to Amelia, think of it like this. If you were Mer, and you lost your best friend, your sister, and your husband, in the span of a few years would you welcome Amelia into your life with open arms? Mer understandably has major trust issues. Everyone she has ever let in has disappointed her in one way or another (many in the form of dying). Mer’s distrust to Amelia is like a coping mechanism to protect herself from being hurt again.
Meredith lost the love of her life and Amelia lost her brother. I love both of them but it was a journey and Amelia will never replace Christina as Merediths person/sister.
I never understood why Meredith was being so horrible to Amelia in season 11. Amelia's feelings were appropriate. She lost the only sibling who cared about her. She didn't get to say goodbye.

Meredith literally got pissed that Lexi was trying to be close to her then accused her of stealing her friends. Even Alex called her out on her actions towards her. This broke my heart. Even though I stopped watching Greys two seasons ago, there is something so beautiful about the relationships they built. Amelia has always been a favorite and heartbreaking character. This is such a beautiful character and relationship study.

Why is every suddenly thinking Mer just became cold and distant? She’s ALWAYS been like that. Derek, Lexie, Maggie, Richard- all major people in her life, she’s given them all a hard time trying to get to know her. I think she would’ve treated Amelia the same regardless of whether or not Derek died.

That's not true , if you look at funeral of derek. In that episode....you see Meredith standing there by the cemetery. Who is she holden hands and who is standing next to her in part off the episode ... Christiana Yang... There is a part in that episode , from behind. So Christiana came back for Meredith. Only its a short , fast part of it. Because christiana is Meredith " person " . Bond sisters , christiana gets Meredith and Meredith gets christiana. So like TLM said is true. Christiana never left Meredith. She only follow-up her dream , and Meredith understood that from her. Even they are far away , still they are sisters , or in different kinds way to say ... each other person ...

Mer supported Christina. And like Christina said she will Always be Mers person. They are sisters. Blood doesn’t make a person family. And Christina and Mer is the perfect example of that. No matter the distance. It was a bond that was never forced. They will always be sisters.

they have one of the most beautiful relationship in grey's.
they are the most interesting character dynamic. Their bond over the loss of Derek is so so deep on both sides. The anger, resentment, denial, bargaining and finally forgiveness and acceptance of each other is rooted in that loss but now they're unshakeable. Cristina is still her sister but now so is Amelia.
Lexie, Amelia and Jo are the best in my opinion 💓

Amelia will never be half the sister Cristina is to Meredith. And Cristina may not physically be there anymore but her and Mere still keep in touch. Amelia will never understand how much Meredith has loved or lost. She will also never understand everything Cristina has done for Meredith and how much they have been through together. Cristina is the reason she gave Lexie a chance, she operated and saved Derek with a gun to her head, hell in an ironic way she made it possible for choosing Maggie and bringing her into Meredith's life. Hell Cristina even saved Meredith's life by making them try again when she coded after drowning. I could give a thousand more examples, but Amelia will never replace Cristina (to Owen or Meredith) and she will never comprehend how amazing Cristina is.
I am watching Grey's for the first time and even though I am fully spoiled this breaks my heart into a million tiny pieces 😭

That is such a beautiful video. I haven't watched Grey's in a long time, but the dynamic between those two is so interesting. The bitter and cold widow and he fucked up sister in law. They didn't choose each other, they barely even liked each other at some point, but they both loved Derek with everything they had and Derek loved them back.
So the resentment that slowly turns into respect then into love? Yeah, my kind of thing.
For those who don't know (or don't remember), Amelia also had a complicated life. She saw her father dies when she was a child, her mom neglected her and she was saw as the black sheep of the family, she had problems with addiction, lost her fiancé and father of her baby, ALSO lost a baby, Derek was the only person of her family that supported her in some way, and than she lost him. Of course she was mad that Meredith didn't call her. Wouldn't you be if your brother died? Yes, Meredith had her reasons, she was also dealing with her grief and two children. That's why I don't think any of them deserves the hate, they both went through really bad things.
Mer isn't cruel. People pop into her life and expect her to love them on the spot, when everyone Meredith's ever loved is either dead or leaving her. And all her sisters are either 6ft under or 10000 miles away, so to expect to be all welcome party for her was nothing to expect. Plus Meredith is genuine. If Amelia was her sister then she'd make a real connection with her instead of just throwing Derek(her dead husband) in her face everytime they get in an argument and bringing up her own insecurities. Meredith was being meredith. Half-twisted sister, part widow, part surgery boss, part single mom and completely brave, strong and honest.
P.S: SHE'S MEREDITH GREY. Born with the dark & twisties and protector of her family, friend group, a hospital and her emotions.
I dont think they want her to love them. They just want to be treated with respect. And tbh after watching few seasons, you can tell that meredith is not very respectful to new faces. She respects patiens, other (high-level) surgeons, friends but no one who has some kind of connection to her. There is many things that are off about meredith. I know how hard her life was and i understand being afraid of new family members, but all they wanted was to know her. I totally get why amelia wanted to know the closest person to her brother. Meredith is just too selfish to see that everyone else is hurting too, not just her.

Meredith been through so many horrible things in her live that she don't know what happiness is.and out of nowhere Amelia coming and trying to get into her life just like that? How do you think she would feel? And btw mer did this to everyone that tried to get into her life, her stepmother, Lexie, Maggie and Amelia.
Hili Even Haim wdym out of nowhere? Amelia was already in their life before Derek died. Whether you think she was justified in her behavior it doesn’t change the fact that Meredith was cruel to Amelia.

People here hating on meredith know nothing about meredith. It's the same old story with lexi, amelia and maggie
Lexi came and decided to tell mere she was her sister when she was literally holding a trauma patient and then went on to practically stalk her every step, getting into her life and business when she didn't even know how broken a person meredith is. Meredith lived hell and she got to have everything mere didn't.
Then came amelia. Meredith was always supportive, way more supportive and respectful to her than Derek ever did. He was at times abusive to amelia and that was a side of derek meredith had ignored for years. He had a huge complex when it came to Sharing spotlight or letting someone grow especially the women in his family. He did it so many times to meredith but she git over it. She couldn't do it when he went back on his promise to her and then sulked and mopped and tried to steal amelia's job. Amelia herself told meredith he'd do something like that to her. Amelia showed meredith Derek's insecure side, the worst side right before he died and yeah meredith should've called her but you don't treat a mourning widow the way amelia treated her. They all walk all over meredith, give her crap but yeah, she's still loyal to them in her own way and it's not always right but God sake she's not always wrong. She's kinda the best flawed female character I've ever got to see.
It's not wrong to be dark and twisty and own up to it. Atleast she admits her flaws

I stopped watching the show before Amelia came on to the scene but my god, the way you wove all the sister/pseudo sister relationships in this, the pain, the raw love between all these complex relationships, I just know when I'm about to watch a Grey's video from you, it is gonna be full of emotion and weaving of storylines, all tied up in a beautiful bow.
You are singlehandedly keeping the Grey's fandom alive imo (i know this is a lie but just pretend it's not ok)

Meredith may take a long time to warm up to someone but once she has a connection with you she is fiercely loyal. It was hard to watch Amelia and Meredith have such a strained relationship when Derek first died but I think over time they've grown to love and respect each other.

I mean I agree. Cristina and Lexie were Meredith's sisters. I guess we would count Maggie, but that whole storyline always seemed so forced that I could never get on board with Maggie.

Mer has had a lot of people come and go in her life. When Amelia came to Seattle to stay, Derek was still alive. Mer and Amelia never really bonded so when he died all they had was each other. Amy didn’t know Mer. Mer wasn’t good with sisters, her friends were her family. Christina, Derek, George, Lexie, Alex, they were her family, and they left (not Alex) so I think Amelia expected something of Mer that was never going to happen. I don’t think Mer was cruel, I think she was being Meredith. It felt like Amy expected her to be someone she wasn’t. I didn’t really like Amelia in that season. It was a lot.
my dad died when I was a baby my mom didn't call his family when she got in the ambulance because she was freaking out she was thinking about her kids she called them later and his brothers were his best friends They weren't mad she didn't call sooner they understood but now they only come around twice a year and we take care of my grandma we are a reminder to them of their best friend. but they don't. hate us. they are just sad. anyway, They don't hate my mom for not calling sooner they get it she had two young kids to figure out, her husband had just died and they had a great relationship their entire life. Love isn't something that just comes and. goes when its true love so unless you've been in mers spot chill cause yall sound mean
So many people saying Meredith is cruel like have y’all not been here before lol did you guys miss the 17 years of backstory? Y’all surprised at her reaction for real?! Like I thought we all were on the same page about the fact that Meredith is not an emotional person like that. As someone who is highly emotional and relationally cautious, I find her reaction, while harsh and inexcusable totally relatable and realistic. Girl ain’t changed... this that stuff she been on. But go on and be surprised....
I always hated Meredith for the way she treated Amelia. I understand she lost her husband, lover, soulmate and the father of her children.
But Amelia lost her brother. And that must have been an incredible pain and Meredith treated her like crap...I still hate her for that. (But overall: Meredith is a great person just not at that point)

Yes there were times when she made me want to punch her, but when she’s loyal to somebody she’s loyal to them and is willing to lose her career and everything for the people she loves and cares about!!! Mer has lost so much. To see Amelia..... it was like cutting herself open all over again. She just wasn't ready to let Amelia close because.... because anyone Mer has ever been close with aside from Alex has either died or left her. Trusting and allowing closeness just never came easy for Mer. It wasn't even easy with Derek.
I feel bad for Amelia but Cristina didn't just leave Mer and Cristina went through heaven and hell together plane crash,shooting Amelia has no clue what she's talking about
