I agree that what you did is the smart move, especially for someone such as yourself who wants a reliable, easy to maintain bike to ride on a regular basis. It amazes me that they have made those systems so easy to install.
Nice work Derek. Personally I take a designated ignition controlled live, rather than the feed to the rear brake. Looks well made and obviously easy to upgrade.
Several years ago I fitted a Newtronics system to my Suzuki GT750. It was relatively straightforward to fit and very easy to time up using the marks on the engine casings, as opposed to a dial gauge through the plug hole threads. The bike ran absolutely perfectly and was a pleasure to ride. It was worth every penny.
@@michaeljohnson-li5nnThanks for watching 👍 The bike definitely runs better when warm, but is strangely harder to start from cold. 🤔 It's probably nothing to do with the ignition system though.
Both my CB360 and my DT3 250 Enduro are fitted with electronic ignition. The Honda has a Charlie's Place system, and the DT has a Vape system, which is part of a 12v conversion. I think that you have done the sensible thing, it's no fun breaking down! I'm blaming you, I bought a YR5, a runner needing restoration. The paintwork is a mess, so I will get it done Purple and White, my favourite!
@derekb2765 I really need to sell my FJ1200 sell earlier in the year. It belonged to the son of Annika, who sang the Japanese boy song! It doesn't make it worth any more, though! I'm using it for my winter hack at the moment.

It's certainly reduced the worry about reliability. Not difficult to install, but partly down to the simplicity of older bikes. Thanks for watching 👍
Excellent video a great bike don’t 2 strokes aways sound and smell so good 👍👍
Glad you liked the video. The bike's definitely running better now, once warmed up. Pulls ever so well now, even in high gears 👍
Excellent, very clear video. Loving your work Derek.
Thank you for the nice words. Glad you enjoyed the video 😀

Glad you enjoyed the video 😁 Yeah, using a ignition wire is a fair suggestion 👍
Nicely done! Hope that’s the end of the ignition issues.
Cheers mate. I hope so 🙏
It's good to see cap head screws in abundance - the sign of someone who actually works on their bike!
Yeah, they're far easier to work with than JIS screws. You lose a bit of authenticity, but I can live with that 👍 Thanks for watching 😊

Hey, congratulations on the new bike! 😀 Actually I'm a bit jealous, as I'd love to get stuck into a new resto. But I'll have to sell something first 😬

Those FJs are very beloved motorcycles. Quite a few guys in my VJMC section have them 😯
Pounds and miles, yuk
🤔
