- Come along with us as we take an epic overland adventure along the South Carolina Adventure Route. The South Carolina Adventure Route (also known as THE SCAR) loops through approximately
1,100 miles of rural South Carolina. It includes mountains,
ocean, forests, countrysides, state parks, historical sites, and quaint
towns--all on a mix of pavement, sand, mud, dirt, and gravel.

Amazing bridge
Yeah it was really cool. I’ve had so many people ask me how to get there! 🤣
Such gorgeous scenery! And I can’t wait to see that bridge in person. Great video!
Thanks! Yeah I need to take you there for sure!
Nice Matt! Keep it up!
Hey man! Good to hear from you! Hope you’re doing well!
9:28 🎉
Thank you! That means a lot! 🙏🏻
Love your JP Jeep! Awsome channel.
Thank you!!
Such a nicely done yj
Thank you!!
Great looking rigs
Thank you! Can’t wait to get the JKU built up too.
Well done, guys! Following along and looking forward to Stage 2 of your adventure. :-)
Thanks so much!!
Hi SMG Family. I can't wait to see the upcoming videos. We finally arrived in South Carolina mid-October and are getting settled in. I've pulled the SCAR map file and loaded in on Gaia but we haven't had much time to do anything other than short day trips (no camping gear yet due to the shipping mess from South Korea to US). Cheers and God Bless. ~Mike and Ester~
Thank you! That’s awesome you pulled the files. I hope you get a chance to do all of it! Where have you been exploring so far?
@@SimplyMustGo so far we checked out the Poinsett State Park and Manchester Forest. Lots of driving around looking for houses too but that doesn't really count. Hahahaha...
@@DuyanFarms Nice! Well hopefully I'll get to see you out there one day!
What a great adventure…so well captured in this video. Really nice work Matt.
Thanks so much!!
I ran it on my bike and in my 4Runner. Both were enjoyable. It is a great route that keeps getting better.
That's awesome! Which did you have more fun with, the bike or the 4 runner?
Matt, this is great. I love the story telling movie feel of the video. Can't wait for the next installment!
Thanks! Next one is Sunday!
Great video discovered channel randomly can’t wait to watch other videos
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it!
Good part 1 video. Can't wait to see part 2. Wish I could be there with you guys.
Yeah it's been an awesome Trip. Here is part 2: ua-cam.com/video/1Qx3KCYohlg/v-deo.html
Great video Matt. “We’re adults but we’re also five!” Haha love it. Looking forward to the next video
Thanks!!
Wow, a great family adventure!
Thank you!
Just discovered your channel and this series. As a huge 90s 4x4 enthusiast, this is an amazing watch. Love the 80s colours on the LC and the Jurassic themed Jeep is a bucket list car. Well done. Awesome series.
Man thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
Great video! I'm itching to get out and run the SCAR myself - just built out a GX470 and an expedition trailer. I've done a few shake down cruises and I have the SCAR and GA Traverse on my short list.
Yeah you totally need to do it. After the Scar my next trip will be the GA traverse.
This is total motivation to finish the repairs on my 91 YJ Sahara. So I can hit the trails again.
Awesome! I love the Saharas!!!
So nice to watch this. I am interested to start overlanding and excited to test my grand wagoneer but looking first for an easy unpaved road, little mud paddles.. hope you can help me with this
Check out the Scar. Is mostly for early roads the cool (big trails) are off the main roads, but you don’t need to do those.
Hey brother, great video! This is Stephen, I am going to have to get out there with you one day....
I know who you are! Haha. Yeah man, I was worried when you sold your Gladiator you weren’t going to be going out anymore.
@@SimplyMustGo I no longer have a Jeep but I do have a Ford Ranger that is very capable =)
Great vid man! I’m just up in Asheville, so let me know if you guys want to hit the trails!
That’s awesome. Yeah. I want to hit Hurricane Creek soon!
@@SimplyMustGo lemme know. We’ll hit it up.
Love the video! It would be cool to know what part of the route u guys took!! Looking to do the same kinda trip 🤙🏽
Shoot me a message on Instagram and I’ll send you the section we did along with where we camped.
Beautiful video I’m a couple hours away I’m gonna hit that trail . God bless your baby girl great travel partner my baby girl is also my travel body. ❤️
Thanks man! God bless your family too!
Bridge still stable after all these years speaks to construction quality back than
Yeah they certainly don’t make stuff like they used to!
Dont sleep on steak mac n cheese its a staple in my house. Dude i love the narration and the way you tied in the new name. Way better than I can narrate!
Thank you!! I really appreciate it! Hope you had an awesome thanksgiving!
Great narration, badass video!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
Love the channel. I have the same Jeep! What spares did you bring along?
Well... There was the spare for the Jeep on the back of the Jeep and that's about it. I don't have a spare for the trailer. I like to live dangerously.
you make great videos, great story telling.... Do you have any info on the trailer setup? Who made it? Tent model?
Thank you! The trailer is the trail box from Tiny Camper Company. I know they have a newer version of it now than the one I got.
You mention a couple of times the Cruiser has a v8…unless it’s a swap it’s an inline 6. And it honestly doesn’t sound like a V8.
You’re right. It’s an in-line 6. I messed up. Though he is planning on doing an LS swap soon.
Is that Long Cane Creek bridge?
I’m not sure what the bridge was called. Sorry.
Great video man. What navigation do you use or did you use any? Hop your family had a great Thanksgiving. Oh and by the way it was nice to see someone pray on video before you eat. You don't see that here on UA-cam.
Hey! Thanks so much! So I was using Gaia GPS. We were actually out camping on the trails for Thanksgiving so we had a great time!
I would like to drive the scar do you think a 1999 chevy tahoe 4x4 would make it
Yeah you shouldn’t have an issue on the main scar sections.
I know this was a year ago but where did you start and where did you end on the scar? I'm looking to do an over night trip and then home the next day.
We started a little north of Wagener and by the end of the second video we were up around Walhalla. Hope that helps.
Are you in the Fort Mill area? I’ve seen this Jeep near my home.
I’m not, I’m in Columbia, but I believe there is another guy up there that built one.
Is this trail pretty mild i got a 4x4 but not many friends and I want to try this out with the wife and dog
Yes, the main "SCAR route" is absolutely doable in any 4x4, some of the side trails, particularly ones leading to some campsites could be a little more challenging.
Awesome video! Your doing a great job, keep it up! I like the new channel name 👍
By the way, I'm Dillon Bishop. You probably don't remember me, but I used to comment on your videos a lot before that account got deleted :(
Hey thanks! Haha Well I'm super glad you're commenting again. You got lucky, cause you caught me while editing stuff on the video. It's not supposed to be live yet, but I guess you got a sneak peak! Glad you liked it! Hope you're doing well!
I have discovered this content I love 4x4 but I only have a 2005 jeep liberty 4x4 with regular tires and I don't know if I can cover those areas that way, I would love it of course
You should be able to do 99% of the scar without a probably. It’s the side roads we explored that can get tricky, but the SCAR itself should be doable with your liberty.
thank you very much and diaculpe how can I find those routes? I have searched for it but I have not been successful, thanks for your answer
@@jjscott scadventureroute.wixsite.com/website
very grateful friend, I will soon take my liberty
Did your bro swap the 80 series? These only came with the 4.5l straight six 93-97 in the states. Up till 92 it was the 4.0L 3fe.
No. Though he is probably doing it soon. I misspoke, I’m so used to the newer ones have the V8 that I said that instead of the straight 6
The 80 series Land Cruiser didn't come with a V8. Did your brother replace the inline 6?
No, I just misspoke. Totally brain fart thinking about the newer land cruisers with the v8. Didn’t even realize I did it until after the video was posted.
Right in my backyard, but my current WJ wouldn't make it. Miss getting out and semi-lost.
I hope you are able to get out soon!
I’m wanting to do this trail bad but I have a 02 Tacoma Prerunner (4x2). Is it doable or does it require 4x4?
You can do the SCAR, but some of the side trails you might want 4x4 or a winch or both and or a buddy.
What V8 did your brother put in the 80 series?
Cool video, I'm in sc with a jlur
Thank you!
Could you take a Sxs or Utv down this system?
In some parts. But most of it is public roads.
someone has been practicing being a Narrator ! sounds and looks good
Thanks! Gotta try and up my game a little.
What is the trailhead address/location for the first trail y’all did in this video?
Go to scadventureroute.wixsite.com/website and look for the trail section near just south east of McCormick in the Sumter National Forest.
@@SimplyMustGo thanks!!!!
@@SimplyMustGo thanks!!!!
@@SimplyMustGo thanks for the info! I was able to find the trail and explore some. Was a really neat area and I found the bridge too. Can’t wait to check out more of the SCAR
@@Levi_shep AWESOME! I hope to see you on the trails!
How to you carry enough fuel to go 1100 mil or even 1/2 that in the woods
You don’t. We bring a few extra gallons in rotopax, but that’s just for emergencies. There are plenty of gas stations as you travel around the state that aren’t far off the route. A lot of route isn’t in the woods either, it’s through rural towns that also have gas stations. We just plan on getting gas every 250 miles or every other day. Whichever works best.
Crazy
Where about on the scar is that bridge
It’s around the McCormick section.
That J-park YJ is no bullshit my dream vehicle. I have a set of axles I plan to put under one if i ever find one that doesnt cost an arm and a leg.... (I only have 1 left hahahah) amputee joke.
Hahahah. I love that you have a great since of humor! I absolutely love having a JP YJ. It brings so many smiles.
Saludos y excelente contenido
Just git a new Harley Pan Am. See ya out there
Lake Thurmond Leroy’s Landing?
Yep!
Steak, Mac and cheese. - adults but still 5.
Pray before dinner. - men of G-d.
Thank you!
Bridge worries us and is sketchy, let's stop on it and take pictures and videos....... nice
Can i join yall sometime?
Say hi to Rick L for me. Drive safe.
With the rise in popularity of off-roading, trails and even public lands all over the country are being closed to vehicle traffic. The culprits are not HOAs, Karens, or nosy seniors. It’s morons that tear up trails, destroy neighboring land off trail, and leave garbage everywhere. I blame UA-camrs and IG. Social media has brought out the worst in us.
