Another awesome behind the scenes video!! These are so great to see, and love the passion of these soldiers!! Great having that host take us on a story. Keep the videos coming 😊
I served on an Italian made M5 105mm howitzer in SE Asia in 67/68. Today's gunners have to work a lot harder than we did, although they also have the technology we didn't have. Ubique.
G'Day Dave, loved your video that you have put together. Since we were subbies in C Coy 1MP, you were always getting your hands dirty with the troops and after catching up with one of your PLCOMD's in ALPHA Coy, 1MP when you were OC; your leadership hasn't changed!
If you get DF'ed, it must take a long time to bug out. The sooner we get SPA the better and if there are any drop shorts reading this, surely there is still a place for a lightweight quick setup 105mm pack howitzer? Something that is easier to set up and pull down and maybe for defensive positions such as FSB's.
Think we're still fighting farmers and goat herders? Those days are gone. Now they've got E.W., I.S.R., Air and Arty support too. Our Safari's in the Global South are finished. It's Peer to Peer now. Peace.
105mm systems fell out of favour because 4 M777s can achieve equal and greater lethality then 6+ M118/119s whilst also being light enough to be air mobile. The biggest issue that we’ve had with the 777 is that it was never designed to be a field howitzer, it was designed to be air dropped into a FOB/FSB with the tires only being rated for sealed roads. We’ve tried to employ it as a lightweight M198.
Good to see they've ditched the jellybean pattern and adopted a slightly more modern camo pattern, I remember the Afghan variant of the jellybeans looked like they'd been standing too close to the back end of an elephant with a digestive problem.
Dear Australian army, I completed basic training in 95? I’m not sure, I got diagnosed with Asperger’s,adhd and giftedness (2e) this year and I remember that I never got a discharge? I’m kinda wondering if I’m in any trouble?? Apologies.
Yeah... sweet. I think I am better off joining mining services if I want the full bang of dynamite. I mean I am not looking for the Manhattan Project, just a bit more Holliwood blazes of glory glam type sh1t.
Too much unnecessary man power heavy lifting! The Army has a duty of care to provide better lifting and movement support. No tuff man excuses required. I am an engineer. I was an officer in the Army (Artillery and RAEME) and we have tools and equipment to do this better.
That is a very slow process to shoot and scoot .. your army ( actually all armies around the world) should leave towed artillery and start replacing them with self-propelled artillery In Ukr_Rus war towed artillery have a high probability of getting destroyed by counter artillery and loitering ammunition strikes and m777 is not different
They can set up a hell of a lot quicker. This is pre-exercise event. It's before a training event. Basically just go out, make sure the gun works, clean it, pack up and prepare for exercise when it starts, the next day. There's no need to rush. In exercise and ideal conditions, one of these can be deployed, set up, shoot 4 rounds, pack up and displace in under 10 minutes with ease.
@@sesameseedbar8853maybe they can do all that in 10 minutes, with a slick and well drilled detachment but it only takes 90 seconds for counter battery as has been shown in the recent Ukraine/Russia conflict. A lot of the newer SPH systems can emplace in 2 minutes, fire a burst of 3 rounds and then displace in 1 minute, this greatly reducing the chance of CBF. Of which not much matters due to the over saturation of sensors in the current battle space.
How long do you think this last Century Gun Line would survive against the Russian Forces today? 5 Minutes? You can be sure the P.L.A. won't be any slower. Neutrality for Australia.
@footageking91 Who's talking about tubes? E.W. and I.S.R. means you get off 2 rounds before Russian hate arrives. Towed arty is 19th and 20th Century tech, check your Calendar.
As the grandson of a brigadier general from WW2 responsible for the Australian and NZ artillery units, I can tell you our artillery capability is light years ahead of those nations
@@stephenrogers7362 I can look online for the Photo's of those exact Australian donated M777's plus our Bushmasters, M113 A.P.C.'s and M113AS4 all burned, destroyed, captured and DISPLAYED AS WAR TROPHIES in Patriot Park Moscow. Onyx listed most M777's are destroyed, the rest are u/s with broken barrels, recoils, trails and sights due to no spares being sent with them, and no one to maintain them anyway. In 21st Century the M777 is fragile, high maintenance, slow and antiquated. It can't evade or hide or move away from C.B. fire or Drones. It is a fat slow obvious soft target. We're not fighting farmers and goat herders any more. It would have been great at F.S.B. CORAL in 1968. In 2023 it's good for recruiting kids and War Trophies. Gotta admit, as an ex-Digger seeing IDENTIFIED AUSTRALIAN ARMY equipment as someones else's WAR TROPHIES from someone else's War does shame me. And surprisingly, people die in Bushmasters just as horribly as any other P.M.V.. Peace.
The war in Ukraine has shown that towed artillery is a thing of the past. The ADF should have bought Caesar or any other motorised self-propelled howitzer. Not the fragile M777 and definitely not the South Korean tracked gun.
We need more people like Dan, always smiling at his place of work
Who knew that lobbing a shell could be so much fun? Army recruiting, you are doing a top job.
KING OF BATTLE , US artilleryman here looking good lads
You should try the D-30 im sure u wont be disappointed

Thanks Team, brilliant work, Dan was the star of the day. I wish I had more diggers like him when I was wearing green. Cheers
When you do a job that you love there is nothing better!

Dang what a great job. Amazing team work.
Once a Gunner, always a Gunner, with 10MdmRegt, then 2/10 MdmRegt.
Started with British 5.5 BL, finished with the M198.
UBIQUE
Congrats Australia. Good job. I hope that those in the US and Europe can keep their heads in these difficult times. Thank you for your service.

The powers that be were promising SP's in the 1990s... never going to happen. Not enough kick backs to the Generals making the decisions.

Where are the self-propelled guns???
Battleships
My back hurts watching this
definitely some different procedures than the US
This is life on the Guns... Bless 'em all!
We could probably do with a few more big guns, I’m not sure 48 guns for an entire army will cut it.
Ahh, the "drop short's"...
Yep way to old. Get himars or any mlrs. We should have a multiple launch rocket system. These have always reminded of a primitive cannon.
They're already on order bud!
@@Adsjabo yeah I know but expected in a couple of years
Conventional artillery will always have a place on the battlefield.

2025 we get the self propelled howitzer

Towed howitzer has advantage of being air inserted by helicopter.
