If a Room has no unlocked doors, possibly due to the Room being a copy of another Room on the battlefield, Starfield gives it a toughness of zero and kills it.

Trying to wrap my head around Aminatou's miracle-granting ability and its interaction with X spells. I believe y'all but need to understand for when I inevitability have to explain it to my pod lol I know the cost of an X spell can be reduced, I've definitely done so on arena. You set what X is, then any additional costs are added, then any discounts are subtracted. Is it because she's granting an alternate casting cost, and that makes it unable to discount? So it'd work fine if it said "enchantments cost {4} less to cast," but the alternate cost can't be applied to X since X isn't a number till it's on the stack? I think that makes sense, and I think that's about how you explained it, but I want to be sure!
It's exactly what you said. The number has to be set in order to determine a Miracle cost. When a cost is reduced otherwise, it doesn't set a fixed cost. It's the difference between "20% off" and "$2 off a purchase of $10".
It's worth noting that, before it hits the stack, all spells with X in their casting cost ignore that as part of their "Mana Value". As such, a spell like Meathook Massacre has a Mana Value of 0BB before it is cast, so its Miracle Cost is also 0BB (since you can't reduce a cost below 0). This is the case for all spells with X in their casting cost, so Aminatou's miracle-granting ability treats all X's as 0 for the purposes of determining their Miracle Cost, which is a preset alternate cost determined before the spell is cast.
@@Serlewsh "107.3g If a card in any zone other than the stack has an {X} in its mana cost, the value of {X} is treated as 0, even if the value of X is defined somewhere within its text." Aminatou uses the mana cost of the card in hand, which is not the stack, to determine its granted miracle cost. Let us study two examples: The Master of Keys has a mana cost of {X}{W}{U}{B}, making its mana cost {0}{W}{U}{B} while in hand. When it is drawn, Aminatou gives it a miracle cost equal to its mana cost reduced by {4}. This reduction applies to the cost's generic mana, which is {0}, and costs cannot be negative (107.1b), so the result is a miracle cost of {0}{W}{U}{B}. This alternative cost does not define X, so when The Master of Keys is cast for this cost, "107.2. If anything needs to use a number that can’t be determined, either as a result or in a calculation, it uses 0 instead." The Master of Keys's effect will cause it to enter with 0 +1/+1 counters and, upon entering, its controller to mill twice 0 cards, which is 0 cards. Defenders of Humanity has a mana cost of {X}{2}{W}, making its mana cost in hand {0}{2}{W}. Unlike The Master of Keys's, this cost has generic mana to reduce, so Aminatou gives it a miracle cost of {0}{0}{W}. While it is reduced, this cost still does not define X, meaning Defenders of Humanity will create no white Astartes Warrior creature tokens with vigilance upon entering.
Only Cavalier of Gales really synergises with the deck's gameplan. Baneful Omen is a nice 'big enchantment', but BBB is too intensive for this manabase. None of the other cards have any particular synergy, might as well play 'Esper goodstuff' with a different commander.
Ancient cellarspawn is the key to applying damage along with the no mana cost effects. So if you plan to get him on the field then aminatous augury has more value bc all spells cause damage on that turn
I disagree about a lot of this. The thing I’m using Aminatou for is the surveil and the miracles. Meaning… I’m throwing anything that isn’t an enchantment into the graveyard. Otherworldly gaze is great because it has flashback. Surveil it into the GY and play it before your draw step if you can’t miracle something out. I think this deck works best as a surveil recursion deck. Throw the necromancy, animate dead enchantments in there. Have a ton of recursion like from the rubble enchantment. Crucible of worlds for the lands in the GY. this deck works pretty good in conjunction with the revenant recon deck that came out with the Murders at Karlov Manor.
wait i’m confused as to why it wouldn’t work with x cost cards. it just creates a function of x-4 on miracle so say x=10 cost now equals 6 would it not? you pay 6 to get the benefit of 10
Miracle is an alternate casting cost, so the cost is decided before it goes on the stack or cast it. X spells are x=0 at all times except as you declare its cost while casting it and then while it is on the stack. Effectively, Miracle can only see the zero at the time the Miracle discount is determined. It’s unintuitive, but it is the natural consequences of the sequencing of the rules.
@@UnreasonableOpinions you are almost right, after the reduction occurs you chose the mana value of X. It can be anything you want, but it won’t be reduced by aminatou. You aren’t limited to 0
I picked this precon up a little bit ago and finally doing more research on upgrades. One card I think would be really cool is Zur, The Eternal Schemer to go along with Starfield of Nyx.
I know these videos are done waaaaaay in advance, but seeing Penance listed at a quarter is so funny considering it's price jumped so drastically after the deck was initially revealed. 😭
I think a card that would have been part of the includes that was overshadowed was Zur, Eternal Schemer. Giving all your enchantment creatures deathtouch, lifelink and hexproof is a great way to put on pressure as well as using his other ability to turn the non-aura enchantments into creatures
A pretty good card draw in this deck is Greed - it is an enchantment with 3 generic in its mana cost so fits Amiatu's preference and then lets you draw for 1 black (and 2 life but, eh)
Actually, if you have copies of room enchantments with both sides locked, you can unlock either side whenever- tripling your eerie triggers essentially 76% confident this is how it'd work
Note for anyone upgrading that Secret Arcade // Dusty Parlor, one of the new cards in the original, has a game-drawing infinite with any Constellation card that makes creatures like Archon of Sun's Grace. Secret Arcade makes everything enchantments, so Archon's tokens trigger Archon, and on and on... Unless you have some way to sacrifice Archon at instant speed, this combo will go on forever and make the game draw.
I know it's not an Enchantment but Scroll Rack is one of the best topdeck manipulators for top dech cheating. With how much you're drawing you could instant speed put your hand on top and cheat your hand out. Super powerful in this list.
One thing you guys didn't hit on; rooms have a MV that's equal to both doors, which with Starfield of Nyx, means you can drop some pretty big beasties, especially because some rooms have 1 half that's 2-3 mana, and the other half is 4+
When a room enters play, it starts with both rooms locked, and only has the MV of the unlocked rooms, which means that starfield reanimation would immediately kill the room. Still makes ones already in play huge though.
@@gramtash9411 Not true. It enters with the cast room already unlocked. 709.5d A permanent with a shared type line is given the “left half unlocked” designation as it enters the battlefield if its left half was cast as a spell. It is given the “right half unlocked” designation as it enters the battlefield if its right half was a cast as a spell.
Cool thing with Starfield of Nyx (there's also a Room in the precon that turns all of your stuff into enchantments) - if you play an Ondu Spiritdancer, you can copy them infinitely so you can choose to have infinite Ondu Spiritdancers which is very scary.
@6:25 I know that, with alternate casting costs, you can't choose a value for X but wouldn't this work by giving a derived alternate casting cost using the value of X designated as it is placed on the stack? Lier, for example, gives flashback to your instants and sorceries in the graveyard. It has been ruled that, unlike most alternate casting costs, you may choose a value for X in that instance. Wouldn't Aminatou granting the derived alternate cost work the same way?
Card draw was something I noticed the precon needed badly when I played it the first few times. I’m thinking of changing out the commander to the new Zur, Eternal Schemer. Smash your opponents with your enchantments and Aminatou is a great card for the 99.

Any good soul to confirm me something please :C? So, if i have an enchant of 3 mana, do I cast it for free, or I still need to pay 1 with this miracle mech?
I feel like Mystic Speculation is kind of a poor man's Sensei's Divining Top at $1.50. One Blue to Scry 3 and then you can spend an extra two colorless to Buyback and put it back in your hand after it resolves. Could even be better if you have the mana to burn due to it adding back on resolution.

Feel like this deck was a struggle. It may be time to look at each set of precons and decide to do a boosted upgrade. That all depends on your scheduling but i still feel like the deck is struggling after these upgrades
You do the "miracle draw". You move the card from your library to the table, specifically separate from the rest of your hand. You look at it. If it's not a miracle, goes to hand. If it's a miracle *and* you want to cast it, you announce that you're doing so and you pay the costs. You'll basically have to do this with every single card you draw, every single time you play this deck.

1. Baneful Omen (win con, burn)
2. Sorin, Grim Nemesis (win con, burn)
3. Twilight Prophet (draw, burn)
4. Marvo Deep Operative(clash free cast)
5. Cavalier of Gales (flying blocker brainstorm)
6. Yennett, Cryptic Sovereign (free cast, flying blocker)
7. Haunted Crossroads (put creature/enchantment creature on top of library)
Only Cavalier of Gales really synergises with the deck's gameplan. Baneful Omen is a nice 'big enchantment', but BBB is too intensive for this manabase. None of the other cards have any particular synergy, might as well play 'Esper goodstuff' with a different commander.
what would you cut
Wish they'd reprint more Faerie Mastermind and Ledger Shredder since they're pretty much auto includes for most blue decks..
wait i’m confused as to why it wouldn’t work with x cost cards. it just creates a function of x-4 on miracle so say x=10 cost now equals 6 would it not? you pay 6 to get the benefit of 10
Miracle works in a way that you have to play it as X cost of 0
@@SaneTheGod hm kinda silly tbh
@@SaneTheGod wait no but where in the rules does it say this because everything i’ve seen that reduces mana cost allows for this why not miracle
You aren’t limited to 0
“I’m just a kid, and life is a nightmare” -Aminatou. Trust me, I’m a Vorthos
Just got mine yesterday. So happy to see this today.
I picked this precon up a little bit ago and finally doing more research on upgrades.
One card I think would be really cool is Zur, The Eternal Schemer to go along with Starfield of Nyx.
2 cheap cards i have in mine is Insight and Ancestral Knowledge. both super fun.
I know these videos are done waaaaaay in advance, but seeing Penance listed at a quarter is so funny considering it's price jumped so drastically after the deck was initially revealed. 😭
Yup. Same with Starfield of Nyx!
Actually, if you have copies of room enchantments with both sides locked, you can unlock either side whenever- tripling your eerie triggers essentially
76% confident this is how it'd work
36:17 oor... just use the Enchantment after combat?
I love this precon!! Haven't gotten it yet, but I can't wait to buy it :D
I got it in the mail yesterday, I am excited and stoke to upgrade it
I know it's not an Enchantment but Scroll Rack is one of the best topdeck manipulators for top dech cheating. With how much you're drawing you could instant speed put your hand on top and cheat your hand out. Super powerful in this list.
Phenomenon Investigators feels like it wants to be in a Jon Irenicus deck...
Also you need both sides unlocked to make them truly huge. On the battlefield specifically, only the unlocked sides count to the permanent's MV
Cool thing with Starfield of Nyx (there's also a Room in the precon that turns all of your stuff into enchantments) - if you play an Ondu Spiritdancer, you can copy them infinitely so you can choose to have infinite Ondu Spiritdancers which is very scary.
Those prices are crazy high compared to what they are at today
That's the difficult part of long production timelines, looks better, good scripts, but information is dated faster.
I just checked Penance (which they have at $0.25. It's $6.50!
I have been patiently waiting for this episode, my Tuesday has gotten brighter
Card draw was something I noticed the precon needed badly when I played it the first few times. I’m thinking of changing out the commander to the new Zur, Eternal Schemer. Smash your opponents with your enchantments and Aminatou is a great card for the 99.
Agree, was very surprised that OG Aminatou wasn't in the deck instead of the Augury. Although, the new art is very pretty.
I will be building Rendmaw, I hope to see him on the channel at some point.
They mention Rendmaw in the Commanders of Duskmourn video
@@jacobnestle3805 Did they? I pulled up that video and I thought that they normally do them alphabetical so I went towards the end and never heard him come up. I'll have to listen to it again. Thanks for the reply.
I've been waiting for this video. Love the cuts, completely agree. I've got a copy of divining top that needs to be included in this deck. Otherwise I'll be following these upgrades pretty closely. 🤙
Thank you!! I thought you need to give flash for miracle. Changing the game plan now
I sold my penance because of this deck. I had one lying around for ages costing $0.50 and I sold for $7. Pretty good return for a random bulk card from way back when.
This video came just at the right time becurse i just bought the precon and I have played with it and I loved it but I want to fix it alittle and this episode will be a great reference for what I want to do
How does As Foretold work with rooms, can you unlock a room with the reduced cost?
Aminatou's Augury played insanely well in the deck, surprised to see it cut.
It must be a hell of a time to have to keep up a normal production schedule the last month.
I won tonight with the standard Precon I copied sphere of safety and had a room out which made everything besides my lands enchantments they were having to pay up to 18 per creature to hit me😂
I don’t believe penance requires a target. You can activate it whenever you want without specifying a target (because it doesn’t target)
I’m building master of keys rn and it’s been super fun but man I love this precon. I’m having a hard time dismantling it to make the master of keys, just cause it’s so fun!
Same. I am leaning towards master of keys myself but it hurts to take it apart lol
You know how looong i been waitin’ for dis
Hope everyone id doing good and keep the videos coming 😊
I build her as a curse commander. A lot less strong but way cooler!
Same
Oba! Estava esperando por esse vídeo 🎉
Do locked rooms count towards devotion or do you have to unlock them?
Locked rooms don't count toward devotion!
Am I first?!?! I just played this deck 10 minutes ago and it’s wonderful out of the box.
43:35 reminded me of something very funny i once did with an astral dragon. i made two dragon oubliettes against the braids player and proceeded to beat him to death with an oubliette containing his commander. memenath locus of jank is a hell of a nonsense pile, that's not even the craziest story, really hope one day i get to play it against the game knights peeps if not actually on the show itself.
Off topic but, can i please get a full cover of Josh singing died in your arms the death toll preview got me good.💀
Anyone try an auras deck with her yet? Eldrazi conscription for 4 seems fun.
Did extravagant replication spike with obeka? It seems a little nuts there lol.
Does anyone know how Aminatou's miracle ability works with room cards? What cost is she looking at to determine the miracle cost? Can i choose or is it a total of the two sides? Seems a strange one.
45:00
Scroll rack would be a cool include here, you can put stuff from your hand on top to miracle out, not sure how expensive it is though.
Yeah it's kinda pricy, but Sensei's Divining Top and Scroll Rack would go perfectly in here. Also Counterbalance if you fancy playing a bit of control mage.
@@webbc99 agreed, SDT is great with scroll rack. I got both of mine cheap, I bought them just as they got reprinted, just like I did with mana crypt (RIP)
I'm surprised you didn't add Arguel's blood fast to the deck or even search for Azcanta. Both have been great for me.
If you add Smothering tithe, with the monolog tax in the deck treasure map is a really good add
I was literally looking for this 2 hours ago haha
Best upgrade videos on the web
They fucked up the rulings on master of keys and that secret arcade. The fact that both dont synergize at all with aminatou is mind blowing.
How does arcade not work? Rooms are reduced by the miracle cost
Picked up mine yesterday
They keep asuming you can miricale on your opponents turn. Can you mirical an enchantment on an opponents turn?
It is not an assumption.
702.94a Miracle is a static ability linked to a triggered ability. (See rule 603.11.) “Miracle [cost]” means “You may reveal this card from your hand *as you draw it* if it’s the first card you’ve drawn this turn. When you reveal this card this way, *you may cast it* by paying [cost] rather than its mana cost.”
Arvinox & banishing stroke are cool together in this deck
My wife trying out this deck for the first time yesterday and having a hard time getting any result out of it
Me watching this video to figure out what to help her with, and seeing most of the cards she had to play be on the remove list like aaaah I see 😅
11:45 Athreos isn't there to protect your creatures, they're there to steal creatures from your opponents
*adds archon of sun's grace, proceeds to not cut the room that forces a draw whenever they're together.
Feels weird that they commented on not having quite enough enchantments in the deck but then not adding many? 🤷
Yeah like adding five creatures and taking out a bunch of big (and easily discounted) enchantments seems counterproductive
Yeah, this was a real flavor fail of an upgrade guide. It's just "add generic good cards to the deck."
Random suggestion: could you see if the price tags displayed on the cards can be in a different spot? Now it’s blocking the mana cost sometimes so need to go to a different website to fully understand the cards you’re talking about.
I would use zur instead of starfield. Gives more control on how many enchantments u wanna make creatures.
Any good soul to confirm me something please :C? So, if i have an enchant of 3 mana, do I cast it for free, or I still need to pay 1 with this miracle mech?
Aminatou only reduces the generic cost
Have played this deck 3 times now and its been a lot of fun 1-2 with the deck so far, could've been 2-1 but had a misplay 🤦♂
I feel like this deck is kinda hard for newer players. I had so many interactions at one point I couldn’t keep up.
As a hardcore enchantress player, this deck is NOT new player friendly at all, and it requires a lot of future upgrades for it truly shine. It is not exactly focused on what it is wanting to do, and the cards they suggested were pretty trash.
@@Skywarp2099 any youd recommend?
@@joejojo5966 Disinformation Campaign, Mangara, the Diplomat, Verity Circle, Scroll Rack, and Mystic Remora, Aminatou, the Fateshifter, Teferi, Master of Time, Heliod, the Radiant Dawn. Those seven cards are almost the same budget and a better job than the ones they suggested.
From what I've found, it is really advantageous to have passive draw on opponents turns, while still setting up the top of your deck. This is why Scroll Rack is important, but I understand it is really expensive. Soothsaying is a viable alternative. Mystic Speculation is a good option too, but much narrower. One final note, people sleep on Mind's Dilation. MD for 3 MV is a better deal than 7 MV.
First off i would reccomend rhystic study and mystic remora. I know its very basic, but as enchantments that have extreme synergy with drawing cards on opponents turns, they are auto includes. You could also use aminatou to get an omnipotence for 6 mana or mind's dilation for 3. They are very solid options
@@halvsketchy9293 the cards I recommended wasn't looking to break the $50 mark as much as possible. Rhystic almost does it by itself. If we're breaking the bank, I have Replenish, Academy Rector, and any number of tutors. Those cards are upgrades to work into for newer players later down the road
For the remaining 1,5$, what about one of the creature that tutors an enchantement on top of your deck? The Mind Flayer makes more sense in the Winter deck imo if you fancy janky payoffs
My first adds were penance, starfield of nyx, jace mind sculptor and consecrated sphinx
Penance is now a $6 Plus card
Love this precon! dont want to type up all of the changes i disagree with
I’m trying to figure out why you could not miracle master of keys and get any value off of it i’ve been trying to look it up, but a lot of people are saying that it does work, but you are saying that it won’t work, and that enchantment x spells in a deck like this would not work. Please help me understand what’s truly right
When Master of Keys is not on the stack (which is when the granted Miracle ability would be checking his cost), X is zero.
0 minus 4 is 0. His miracle cost is (0)WUB.
lol you guys took so long to get this video out - Penance is now like $6
You try making the amount of content they do, at the quality they manage, at the speed they do it, and see how "long" it takes you
I bought 5 copies for 40 cents expecting it to go up 😈
There’s also two miracle cards in the warhammer 40k space marines deck they are dope
Feel like this deck was a struggle. It may be time to look at each set of precons and decide to do a boosted upgrade. That all depends on your scheduling but i still feel like the deck is struggling after these upgrades
I thought i was going to use her for my pillow fort shell but she feels more top deck manipulation focused
Jesus the cards to add worth more than the whole deck 😂
It wasnt budget friendly at all
Those are still budget cards too. You could easily spend $500 to upgrade this deck.
@@Habaneropeppah give it a week, it'll only cost $10 but won't be legal 😆
Not adding to the hate, just making funnies to cope.
@@Dead_Heir lol, heard that!
Now check back in a week after the Command Zone effect happens
@@Habaneropeppah well, you can spend 2k if you want. But thats not the point
I’m thinking instead of adding or subtracting 10 cards - limit changes by value. So if you have a $50 budget - you could add 3 cards or 13…
wouldn't the point of phenomenon investigators to return things that have been taken control of or stolen?
Nice, This one looked interesting
How can you play miracle cards from your hand? Don't you have to show them before they hit the hand to play them for there miracle cost
Its i think the 4th time ive seen an upgrade card that is also a secret lair drop, wizards must print them knowing they are good for precons eh, those little devils
Does Rachel have two different color eyes?
I gotta say, I don't know where you guys are getting your card prices on some of these. Starfield of Nyx has been consistently between $12-15 for a while now, and you have it at $3.
I bought 1 last week for 8 Euros, it's up to 14E on bazaar now though.
When they made this it was $3. I picked my penance for .25 and starfield of nyx for $3 a few weeks ago but this video feels like it was filmed forever ago
@@JadeTaylorButAtWork yeah that could be. I checked starfield last week and it was up to $13, seems to be holding around there. maybe these prices will calm down in a few months, but is it really just this one precon driving these prices?
I actually won by commander damage with this one, but you probably need to make it a flyer or unblockable.
