- Kai Lorinc, who called Ōlelo Hawaiʻi a “dead language” at yesterday’s Honolulu City Council testimony, responds to the statements she made that recently stirred up the local community.
Talk about ignorance - saying Hawaiian is a dead language. Unbelievable.
Karen , the next time you want to open your hole and say something stupid, learn the history FIRST!
Wow. Talk about just burning everything down. This woman is stuck in mainlander mode. Very sad.
She needs to go back to the mainland.
She needs to go back to Gaza.
She should LEAVE the islands......
Did this woman ever experience loosing her 'AINA to real estate developers???

No, yall need to remove her. Or else she’s just going to keep living under Hawaiian paradise.
Our Hawaiian language is not dead! We are OUTRAGED!!! Our hawaiian music you can hear it every single day.
Her connotation towards the Hawaiian language was negative when she said Hawaiian is a DEAD language. She could have just asked for a translation and not attack the language. Because when you insult the Hawaiian language, you insult the people of Hawaii. the speaker spoke in both Hawaiian and english so I’m not sure why she was bothered by them speaking in Hawaiian.
here’s the funny thing,I have no idea what her testimony was about. Just that she insulted the Hawaiian language & now her social media is getting blasted 😂
Colonizer mentality.
This was my issue too. If it really mattered to her, ask for a translation or more importantly ask if what was said in English exactly what she said in Hawaiian. She knew very well what she was doing and her intent was to show how anti-Hawaiian she really is. Her FB page seems like opala too, pilau. Trying to quantify the number of speakers to indicate that a language is dead or that because there was a "revitalization" that indicates a dead language. It isn't. And then admitted to GOOGLING it, and somehow she saw it said it was dead? Where? Did she look at the first few hits? No way! She knew what she was doing and what she'd be saying. So it's not true when she said that she didn't mean to offend. Sure, she did! And the Kiaaina also said not to offend? People are way too nice!
Beat it Ha'olé!
Haole ignorance
Another "I've been here 10 years, I'm entitled". 😂
@@lgv3051 facts.
Unbelievable. 'They're nasty'. Boohoo. She's beyond help. She has that fixed 'I'm white I speak English so cater to ME' mindset. I hope her stay in Hawaii is not pleasant for another 10 years.
Definitely not dead. E Ola ka ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi !!!!!💪🏾
DEFINITION OF IGNORANCE! If YOU need a translator, then YOU need to get one, period. LIVE HAWAI’I, LEARN HAWAIIAN
E ola ka olelo Hawaii! That language is beautiful, and carries history with it. Sending much love to the Hawaiian language.
Kick her off the city board! Obviously she doesn’t care about Hawai’i. Shes standing firm on Olelo being a dead language. She doesn’t know, because she’s not local. And yet when she educated she still stands firm?!? She’s making fun of republicans now. By Being Ignorant
Kai ain’t your real name either
Stile to pretend to be Hawaiian and fit in, she’s a parasite
Probably kukai
@ 🤣
She just gave them so much ammunition.
Your here in Hawaii home of the Heart of all Native Hawaiians. If you have disagreements about Hawaii then you shouldn’t live here. When you say a “dead language” you are basically calling our people that we no longer exist or matter in this world we are humans too and all Kanaka Maoli especially any Native have the rights to speak and hear their mother tongue on their own soils even if he/she can or can’t speak Ōlēlo Hawaii.

@@kn5260 WORNG! Not a dolphin tattoo!! It’s “local kama’aina” or “keep the country country” 😂 ever notice most who has that bumper sticker are transplants 😂😂😂 a fried pointed that out to me then it’s actually correct most of the time hahaha

Colonist’s mindset
Please awaken my fellow Kanaka. Article XV, Section 4 established Hawaiian along with English as an official language (the judicial language) of the State of Hawaii, meaning that Olelo Hawaii is to be recognized within everything in our local government on the same level as English. This also means that within the local government every politician in office are supposed to understand BOTH Olelo and English, as both languages in this "state" are legally interchangeable without a translator. That is why in any government setting, a translator is not required. Since they don't understand Olelo, that honestly makes all ( besides who can both Olelo and speak English) unlawful within our local government.
so....if she takes a parking stall away from a samoan or filipino and they voiice their frustration at her by calling her an ethnic derogatory name.....would she have the guts to tell them "what did you say? I didnt hear you"
Maybe she meant to say, “Hawaiian is dead to me.”
Its an official language, which means translation is not necessary.
Her social media page speaks volumes..
I blame the State of Hawai`i as well..returned from Aotearoa..everything from menus..signs…many facets of everyday life involve english and Te Reo Maori…it needs to be more proactive in promoting the OFFICIAL LANGUAGE of our islands…
Your political career is over..
She’s a nutcase.
“To be arrogant and nasty” indeed.
She doesn't know because she doesn't want to know. I speak some Hawaiian but I understand what is said. I'm still trying to learn my Hawaiian language because when I return home to
Kali'hi, Waikiki, Big Island or any where in Oahu, I will know I am in with my Ohana.
Disrespectful. Don't forget where you are 😤
The absolute disrespect she shows to the Hawaiian people and then she acts offended and victimized by the response she got? Oh she’s republican, why am I not surprised? I’m gonna hate the next 4 years.
Enslavers of nations!
What a Karen
Now I live far from Hawaii, but if I did live there, and if I knew how to speak Hawaiian, and I saw this woman. I would make sure that I only spoke Hawaiian around her. Because I'm that kind of a jerk.
Someone just told me yesterday about interviewing a kupuna in his younger days living on the island of Moloka’i and his trials and tribulations of speaking ‘Olelo Hawai’i in school. In this kupuna’s mo’olelo, he described in detail being physically abused and even had a glass jar thrown at him by teachers for speaking his native tongue. And now this happens? I guess history continues to repeat itself. As a Kanaka Maoli, this makes me sick! E ‘Ola Mau Ka ‘Olelo Hawai’i!!!
My mother was beaten for speaking Hawaiian in school
And if our language is dead. How does SHE think we have HAWAI'IAN SONGS 🎵 AND HULA DANCES 😮😮
revoke her real estate license!!
Get her out of here why she working for the council anyway Look her all confused at why she had upset so many
That's right sistah, she made a big enemy with Hawaiians. I'm Hawaiian and I may not understand but I know how to ask.
The Native Americans, Indigenous Australians, the New Zealand Māori, African Americans, Haitians, "Mexicans" (is in quotes because of the loose generalization of everyone south of the USA border) and now Native Hawaiians. This world is just sick. 😢
If you want to understand the language, learn it!
the Hawaiian language is in a coma with no chance at recovery..but no its not DEAD lol
@dnldmor08 So if thousands of people speak a language it's a dead language or is it not thriving?
@petermatautia4268 def not thriving. Buy it's documented so it's always there for however wants it
@petermatautia4268 there isnt a single person in the world that ONLY speaks Hawaiian. Its a hobby not an active language. So yes life support with no chance at returning
Counter productive talk story not welcome
The Hawaiian language was at one time but the Hawaiian people on Niihau were brought to Kauai to teach the language. Or so I have been told. Now the Hawaiian school teaches the language but mainly the wealthy families get to attend. Is this correct?
No, a lot of people moved from Ni'ihau to Kauai and may have taught the language. The Hawaiian language had many dialex, and Ni'ihau shared one of them. Modern Hawaiian is now standardized. There are many free Hawaiian immersion schools across the islands and on Kaua'i.
No I just heard Niihau shell lei makers speaking Niihau Hawaiian last week! Its much different, they use T's like the Maori
@@dnldmor08
T or k are interchangeable as far as what I've been told when using certain words, but whats your point? The Hawaiian language is not dead, get over it
@@dnldmor08 Thats because T and K are used interchangeably in certain words. What exactly are you trying to say? Also there were different dialects for some islands but nevertheless, it is hawaiian
@hynstyle71 of course it's Hawaiian it's in the Hawaiian chain. I'm saying that niihau Hawaiian is def not the source of the Hawaiian we are taught in school
At least Kai still has her good looks.
Her choice of words was insensitive but if they're not going to provide a translator she has every right to complain.
The person who spoke in Hawaiian translated it into English right after
I'm more upset @ Island news for entertaining add helping her use this platform to justify her ignorance
There only reporting the news..
The only nasty person so far is ANITA.
I encourage the natives. There are few left. Samoans will ALWAYS push not only our language (oldest tongue still used today), but our culture. Adapt back to your true native ways like the to'oto'o, wearing lavalavas, songs, men and women dances, etc. Hawaii of old, before the missionaries. Most things we adapted but some we said, nope, not the fa'asamoa way......
Aloha is dead. Hawaiian feeding Hawaiians the stuff!
Yes she is.
Go tell da guys at Zippys too braddah! My cuzin wen go up to da girl at the waipahu Zippys and order one chilifrank and wen say how he goin pay in Hawaiian....and the buggah neva know wat he stay sayin

She's right.English is the language of this country.
We don't actually have an official language.
@Nehmi Officially, you don't have the common sense to understand that "english" is THEE language that this country was founded on.
