Trinity Churchyard Cemetery in Holderness, New Hampshire, established in 1797.
Samuel Livermore (1732-1803), a lawyer in Portsmouth and Londonderry, became Attorney General of the Province of New Hampshire in 1769. But, as the American Revolution approached in the winter of 1775, he moved north to his land holdings in the frontier town of Holderness. He quickly became the town’s most prominent citizen and largest landowner. Livermore soon cast his lot with the new government, becoming the state’s Attorney General in 1776, and later serving in the Continental Congress and as Chief Justice of the state. He was a major leader in the movement to ratify the U.S. Constitution, and, served, under that Constitution, as one of New Hampshire’s first Congressmen, and, then as a U.S. Senator, until ill-health forced his resignation.
Of Livermore’s Holderness buildings, only Trinity Church remains. Trinity Church is a modest late 18th century vernacular building, with little architectural embellishment beyond the paneled woodwork of the pews and pulpit. It is, however, unique as the only 18th century New Hampshire church that retains its original appearance.

The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

Samuel Livermore born in 1732 has an interesting story. He was one of New Hampshire’s first congressman from 1780-82 and again in 1785. He served as Chief Justice 1782-1790. He was a proponent of a national constitution and also motioned on June 21 1788 for New Hampshire to be the 9th state to approve the constitution.

Mounding the graves was customary back in the days of no vaults, when buried in a wood coffin. The graves were mounted because of the inevitable collapse of the grave due to the wood coffin deteriorating and no longer able to hold the weight of the earth above. the mounding provided more material to be spread once the collapse occurred. it was customary to mound the grades after the collapse. Here in Alabama I remember when most all cemeteries had mounded graves,

I loved this cemetery, you could lose an entire day walking around looking at the old gravestones. And it would be worth it. With a lot of those graves being under those big pine tree's not much grass grows on the graves to be mowed, mostly just pine needles and vines, helps make the grave sites look even older. It was very interesting seeing those graves with the ground mounded up on them. A great find Ron.😀👍 Stay safe out there on your trip.💟🙂

Such a beautiful graveyard. The Celtic cross was so hidden I doubt I would have seen it if you hadn't pointed it out.
11:30 and 15:03 and 17:03 and 18:23 I love the shading of nearly all the tombstones. White with lots of black and some charcoal gray growing on them. It reminds me of my charcoal and chaulk artwork that I did in highschool and college. Before I got too busy with work to enjoy being artistic. I like those 3 colors together. Never knew it happened on stones until I started watching videos of cemeteries about 12 wks back.

@@Regina0964 I hope they will as well. We went only one class (25-30 kids) at a time since that was how small the building is. We learned how to write with quills, which was fun when you’re a lefty. I can’t remember what age I was, but it was neat. The cemetery is right on a main thoroughfare in the south of town, in the midst of the shopping district. No parking, but still neat to drive by. Some of the graves were just post revolutionary war.

How wide are those 1700 grave markers? I asked before In live chat but don't think you seen that.they don't look to wide. *By the way, poor Samuel, I feel bad for him, how the heck can he be burried between 2 wives and actually rest in peace* ?

What gets me is when you walk through a cemetery and there are a row (not many) of tomb
stones group together away from the others.
There is a cemetery in Somerville Tenn.
Not sure of the name though.
    It's up on a hill.
It has a very old section and a new section. But on a very sunny day if you look towards the older section, you will see the sunlight rays shine the darkness of the older section.
    It gave me weird feeling.
But it kept me drawn towards that part of the cemetery. I was at a gravesite service which was
in the new part. But I kept staring towards the older part.

On Arthur Livermore’s stone (the one you mentioned who was born in 1766), below his name is his son Samuel. I could read that he was lost in the wreck of the Pulaski. I looked that up and found some interesting information. There was a crew of seven, plus 150-160 passengers aboard. The cause of the wreck was a blown starboard boiler. One survivor believed that only 54 people survived the wreck.
I found Samuel Livermore’s name on a list of those lost in the wreck. At the time, he was living in Savannah, Georgia.
