    Idk if it's just me but it seems like almost every humiliating boat crash or crab video found on UA-cam happens in this exact canal.

    I'm sorry but the coach just cracked me up 'if he crashes again.....whatevs let's look at this crew, they're gonna win now lol'

    The footage dates from the year 2000. The reason they're using the older-style symmetrical macon blades is because the club tends to give them to the beginners, at least for the first few weeks.

    For everyone blaming the cox's course it was pretty obvious he's rudder malfunctioned the way he was leaning back trying to pull at this steering cables,moist only flaw was commanding hold water too late

      As a new novice Cox. That is still the coxswains fault. He could have said for one side to power up other side power down or have some seats stop and hold or literally anything

      @sophiaschult 2 роки тому +2

      I am a novice, and I have coxed for multiple races. At head of the lagoon (course has 2 90-degree turns and is centered around 3 huge curves), there are multiple turns that can not be achieved using just the rudder. The cox should have had 2 seat and 4 seat drop out or had everybody check it down and 8 seat hold.

    If you listen closely to the coxswain at 0:46 he says he lost the rudder. He didnt have control of the boat anymore, I dont see why he didnt just have them hold water at that point :/

    Why were the novices in a new boat anyway? As a novice myself I wouldn't even dare go near it.

  • @nocturnalgeo1315

    Jeez, the freshman 8 I was in had better balance than those boats.

    • @y337
      @y337 8 років тому +1

      If anything the freshman 8's tend to be more set in the beginning of fall season than their novice 8 counterparts since some young returning rowers or freshman varsity may be placed in them. While novices are, well, novices.
      (Idk every crew does things a little differently I suppose)

    This is completely unrelated to the video but in my rowing club, the club owns the boats, and we each get assigned our own single scull which we use to train and race, I happened to the get one which only has one shoe, one half of the slide is sticking off sideways and all the paint is peeling off.

  • @imoriginaler

    was the crunching sound the vegetation on the bank or the boat? or both...lol

  • @RichardB1983
    @RichardB1983  17 років тому +5

    She'd probably been coxing for about 3 weeks by that point - so I guess that the less repetetive calls gradually develop as you gain experience.

  • @zuhutay
    @zuhutay 17 років тому +1

    The coxswain looks back at the rudder as though he was having trouble with it. He should told the rowers to reduce their speed.

  • @RichardB1983
    @RichardB1983  12 років тому +4

    Yes you did. In hindsight Andy (cox) should have told his crew to stop & turn, but panicked a bit when the rudder went. That's novices for you.

    at first i thought they broke an oar i hear the same sound when a fallen tree had a branch sticking up and i moved over to miss the new quad and snap! two oars plus bow man got pulled in better than head on with a quad

    This is the reason why you train a coxswain.

      How is this the coxswains fault though? Not trying to blame others, just curious.

    This cox should have known he wasn't making that turn. The freshman cox on my team did a better job handling a boat than that on his time out...this is pretty sad, I'm sure frankie looked amazing compared to this travesty.

    Commentator complaining about their brand new boat,if you put a raw novice crew out, with what looks like a novice cox as well,what do you think might happen? who put them out in a new boat?? Could be an issue with the tiller as well!

    Why didn't he drag or wayenough on the port side only. Then they could have made it.
