Omg! When my husband and I had to go clean out my father's house after we lost him, we stopped and stayed at the Lowe House, rather than some stupid chain, just because it looked interesting and I hate chains. It was off-season, late at night, and so, so quiet. The woman working the desk came down and treated us like our grandmother. She gave us this absolutely gigantic suite for a tiny amount of money and let us take our hound dog, too. The hotel was quiet at that time because so few people were traveling, so we just wandered the whole place with her blessing, toured the art gallery, and just had the best time in the midst of one of the worst times of my life. I would go back in a heartbeat, but if I had my druthers, I would love to go in the offseason because that was amazing. We were treated so warmly, and the hotel is such a slice of the past. It has a presence.

Wonderful comment. I have a feeling both of you and the clerk were meant to be there at that time. Thanks for posting your experience and condolences on the loss of your father. (Just lost mine two months short of what would have been his 100th birthday.)

As one would have it, something came up and I had to travel on to Cross Lanes where I spent the night. I was so disappointed that I was unable to stay at the Lowe Hotel due to its awesome history. I am not too much interested in ghosts. Thank you for the awesome video. September 1st I was traveling in northern WV. Take care sweet people.

I stayed at Lowe’s last September. The festival was cancelled last year but I went anyway, enjoyed it very much. Ruth, the woman who runs the hotel, was very nice and told me a lot of local history. I stayed in room 327, the room you walked through. On a previous trip, I met Mrs. Harris, the lady who ran Harris’ Steakhouse. That was in September 2016, she died in December. I’ll definitely go back.

The Lowe reminds me of many of the old turn of the last century hotels we have stayed at in the past. Eerie is a good description. I loved that the Lowe has so many period pieces of furniture, the art work, and that rather than modernize everything, they have kept the character of an earlier age. Wonderful video, Shane and Melody,

Well, I've a scary personal story pertaining to the Lowe Hotel...
I was 6yo, had just started 1st grade. My father, after returning from the South Pacific Campaign of WWII in 1945 started working as a Class A Transmission Lineman for Appalachian Power Company (originally in Bluefield, WV, then transferred to Charleston, WV in 1956) and their crew was building towers and stringing Transmission Lines from Apple Grove, WV to the APCO Phillip Sporns Coal Fired Hyro Power Plant along Ohio River. Their crew stayed at the Lowe when working in that area. Dad had crossed the Silver Bridge about 1.5 hours before the collapse. After picking up his suitcase at the Lowe Hotel, he started back toward home in Saint Albans from Point Pleasant in the Company Dodge Powerwagon. I was watching our old black and white TV, while mom was fixing supper, expecting dad to get home around 6-7pm. WCHS TV channel 8 news came on with a special report about the Silver Bridge collapse and mom and I were VERY concerned...about 10 minutes later we saw dad's truck pulling in the upper driveway of our home. Talking about a prays being answered 🙏😌
The West Side Fire Department I joined 11 years later (1/2 mile from our home) was called from Saint Albans to Point Pleasant to assist in searching for survivors and dead bodies, since our department had a old WWII Duk (the boat w/4 wheels and drive train)that could help.
That was a scary night in our home!!

For a little boy and his mother, in the days before cell phones, that had to have been a frightening experience. So many lives were changed that night. I'm sure every time you hear Point Pleasant mentioned the memories of that evening come to mind. Glad your Dad made it home safely.

Hey, we have a Point Pleasant here in NJ. It's on the coast up in Monmouth County. I've never been there. When you were speaking at the beginning of this video your audio level was lower than usual. At 13:23 I saw the board game, Candyland on the table. We had that when we were kids.
I don't believe in any of that ghost stuff, but I know it's a lot of fun to think about. I love that place. I wish I were near it. I used to work for a historic hotel, but it was a lot different than that. Our hotel is a resort with two golf courses. The oldest section was built 1912-14 and it was added onto three times. Unfortunately in the winter of 2018-19 the new owners and general manager had most of the interior completely modernized, destroying its historic integrity and its "homeyness". That caused a lot of long time guests to stop going there. On the outside it looks nice, but the inside is just like any modern hotel anywhere. There's no reason to visit it if you aren't staying there. It's a terrible shame.

Yet there are some very haunted places in Savannah that aren’t claimed to be. The bad places make me leave. One hall at the Biltmore in Asheville. I couldn’t leave because I had to sit down and was so sick feeling. I think it was the servant hall.
